Chapter 4108 MU: The Superbody Incident (185)
"Aunt Wanda! Aunt Wanda! Over here!!!" A childish voice rang out in the chaotic, dark space. Franklin jumped out of the portal, grabbed Wanda's arm, and tried to pull her back. But Wanda seemed to be distracted by something; she shook her head and backed away, calling out Jarvis's and her two sons' names.
"Billy, Thomas, come quick and check on your mother!" Franklin shouted anxiously toward the portal. "She seems to be having a nightmare. You need to wake her up quickly. We have to get out of here fast, or we'll be in trouble when that big guy comes!"
The two Billy brothers rushed out of the portal. Billy focused his mind and suddenly saw the nightmare scenes in Wanda's mind. In her nightmare, all the happy life she currently possessed was fake, merely an illusion she had created using the power of Crimson. And when the illusion shattered, she was left all alone, with nothing left.
"Mom! We're real, not fake! Wake up! We have to get out of here right now!!"
“That won’t do,” Thomas said. “I’ll do it! Mom!! Someone’s hitting us!! Help!!!”
Perhaps because his howling was so pitiful, Wanda suddenly woke up and shouted, her eyes practically spitting fire, "Who? Who hit my son?!"
"Oh my god, you're finally awake! Hurry!" Billy shouted anxiously, "This place has turned into a nightmare realm! If we don't leave now, we'll be swallowed by nightmares!"
Wanda was a little confused at first, but she quickly remembered what she was doing, and then she said anxiously, "No, your grandpa, uncle and aunt are still here! Go find them!"
“Uncle has already returned to the Fighting Realm,” Billy said. “He didn’t survive the explosion; he had already sent us a message. Grandpa should be up ahead; let’s go find him.”
"And your aunt! Where's Polaris? Have you seen her?"
The two brothers exchanged a glance and shook their heads. But soon Franklin came over and said, "Quick, there's another one alive over here, seems to be from another world."
Should we save him?
"Save them first. Those consumed by nightmares will also increase that guy's power, so we'll save as many as we can!"
Wanda quickly flew in the direction he pointed, and then saw the Arkham Knight lying quietly in the darkness, his brows furrowed, as if he were having a nightmare, his hand constantly scratching his cheek until it was almost bloody.
Wanda quickly grabbed his hand and slapped him awake. The Arkham Knight, jolted awake, cried out, "No! Schiller!!"
"What?" Wanda was very surprised.
The Arkham Knight took a deep breath, then quickly realized what had happened. He coughed twice, reached for the power device on his back, and said, "Your sister."
Wanda was a little dazed when she received the power device, then she quickly heard Polaris's voice saying, "I'm not dead, but I'm almost out of power. Magneto is over there."
Wanda helped the Arkham Knight to his feet and quickly flew in the direction he pointed. Eric was indeed lying there. He seemed to be trapped in a nightmare, muttering words like "coal dust" and "newspaper." Wanda knew immediately he was dreaming about life in the concentration camp, because Eric had been responsible for shoveling coal dust there.
She quickly woke Eric. Once Eric was fully awake, he soon regained his memory. Wanda looked at Franklin and asked, "How do we leave?"
“Use the portal,” Franklin said. “You guys go first. I need to search the area for any survivors. That guy gains the abilities of everyone who’s been swallowed by the Nightmare Realm. If a few Omega-level mutants die inside, we won’t be able to fight him.”
“No, you’re too young. I have to stay with you,” Wanda said.
Franklin shook his head and said, "Your Crimson Power and his Power are at best on par; they can't open a portal at all. I used the primordial power of creation to be able to pass through unimpeded. If we get separated, that would be troublesome. Let's go, Auntie!"
Wanda resolutely refused to leave, and her reasons were quite valid. She argued that Franklin would be less than three years old, and leaving such a young child on the battlefield was absolutely unacceptable.
"You said it yourself, since our power levels are equal, if he swallows me, he'll just gain a little more energy, and I can revive in the Battle Realm. Stop talking nonsense and hurry up and save people."
Franklin couldn't dissuade her, so he had no choice but to join her in the search and rescue operation. They actually rescued several mutants, including an Iceman from some unknown universe and the White Queen in her crystal form. Both of them had survived by transforming their life forms, but they were clearly trapped in nightmares, and it took some effort to wake them up.
After circling around twice and finding no one else around, they were about to retreat when they suddenly saw two figures flying towards them. Wanda, holding Franklin, stood there waiting. As the two figures drew closer, they realized it was Superman.
"Hello, ma'am. Are you in any trouble?" the leader asked as he flew over.
“I’m fine. Where did you come from? You…” Wanda didn’t remember seeing them during the previous battle against Nightmare.
"We were captured by Professor X and have been searching for our way in the dream world. Somehow we ended up flying into this dark world. Can you take us out?"
Before Wanda could speak, Franklin gently patted her and whispered, "If it's those Supermen who were captured, they'll see us as enemies, since we're still at war."
Wanda immediately became alert and took two steps back. Sure enough, the next second, an X-ray shot towards them. Wanda quickly retreated and said to Franklin, "Were they swallowed by nightmares?"
"It should be. The real Superman may be dead, and this is the nightmare they left behind."
"Like the previous pathological condition?"
“Yes. If we are devoured, our phantoms will remain here, possessing a portion of our power, attacking other living beings here, and then devouring them.”
"My God, how can he be so strong?"
"The dream power of our universe has combined with some kind of primal dark power of the opposite universe. This means that it is a nightmare power that is very close to the origin of the universe, and it can corrupt almost everyone who is not as powerful as it. Even someone like you who is on the same level as it can easily fall into its trap if you have a mental weakness."
“That damned nightmare!” Wanda cursed. “When she realized she was going to die, she gave her power to Darkseid. And where did that mysterious dark power come from? I hope I don’t catch the culprit…”
Franklin, nestled in her arms, darted around, clearly knowing something but afraid to speak. Only after circling the entire area and encountering several Nightmare Apparitions, confirming there were no survivors, did Franklin open the portal and leave.
They returned to the Asgardian base, but as soon as they got back, they heard Steve say, "The Nightmare Realm is spreading this way, we have to go."
Wanda quickly went over and asked, "What's going on? The Nightmare Realm is spreading?"
Stark also came out of the conference room, took off his goggles, and said, "The situation is not good. The Nightmare Realm is currently expanding outward at a rate of about one light-year per hour. Before long, the entire galaxy there will be swallowed up, followed by other galaxies. It's not safe for us here either. Let's go back to Earth."
“By the way,” Captain America turned to Wanda and said, “the Andromeda Galaxy is not safe either. Notify the mutants to retreat en masse. Let’s go back to Earth first.”
Wanda frowned, but could only nod. Then she heard Steve say to Stark, "We don't have many men left on our side. Command center wants to join forces with Batman, but they don't have many men left either..."
Wanda returned to the Andromeda Galaxy, where a small number of mutants remained, but they weren't particularly skilled in combat. The more powerful mutants were almost entirely wiped out. However, Legion and his group of bizarre personalities were still alive, especially one of the strongest: Spider-Man, Oracle, and "X," as well as David himself, who claimed to be the mutant god—all were unharmed. The giant dinosaur capable of manipulating time had been kidnapped by Batman from the Dark Multiverse; both dragons were now with Batman.
“What’s next?” David asked. After a period of psychological treatment, his mental state seemed much better, but to prevent it from worsening, he was still not sent to war.
“Let’s go back to Earth first,” Wanda said. “We might have to merge with Batman, otherwise we won’t be able to deal with Darkseid who can control nightmares. Besides, he should be a multiverse-level being, so we’ll have to see what the other universes say.”
"What about the Andromeda Galaxy? Are we just going to give up on it like that?"
“Darkseid’s primary objective is to deal with Batman, so there’s no need for him to keep an eye on us. Besides, without us here, there’s no point in him destroying this place. On the contrary, if we stay here, we’re more likely to be targeted by him. After all, he can gain power by devouring people in the Nightmare Realm. If he eats us all, who can stop him?”
The other mutants realized this as well. Although Darkseid was tricked by Batman into losing Apokolips, it was still the mutants who were responsible, and the two sides were now enemies. Moreover, the mutants' abilities were simply too powerful. For a being that could absorb the abilities of others and make them its own, they were an irresistible feast. If they didn't run fast, they would definitely be chased and devoured.
So the mutants quickly packed their things and fled. Even though they had just fought a major battle and their power was nearly depleted, even what little they had left was enough to pack up all the valuables in the Andromeda Galaxy. Franklin even dragged the capital, Sky Island, away and put it in his pocket universe. The other Wandas were also packed up using the Crimson Power.
The process was ridiculously fast because they had already rehearsed it beforehand. After all, they were pirates who raided and plundered places all the time, making it easy for people to find their homes. Their escape speed was extraordinary, even faster than the Asgardian superheroes.
Nick was stunned to see them return first, but he quickly breathed a sigh of relief because he realized that if Darkseid really swallowed the mutants, the multiverse would be doomed.
Then came the remaining superheroes from the Asgard base. Although there weren't many left, they all returned. Everyone gathered in the S.H.I.E.L.D. conference room. Nick cleared his throat and spoke first: "That guy's primary target should be Batman. They can hold out for a while. We need to solve the Asgard problem first, and then cooperate with Batman to kill that big guy first."
"He's really reached the multiverse level?" Doom asked incredulously, "Just because of Nightmare's last stand before he died?"
"I'm afraid so, but you all know there's more to this than meets the eye, so let's not pry." Nick practically had the words "Don't wash your dirty linen in public" written all over his face, his expression saying, "Do you think you don't know who's behind this?"
The group from the central universe fell silent, a knowing look on their faces. Nick continued, "The main problem Asgard faces now isn't the two great empires anymore, but those giant insects. Fortunately, the entrance to the antimatter universe was created by us and can be closed at any time, but before that, we need to clear out the insects around us. Now, listen to my command, three to a group..."
Nick began assigning tasks. Almost everyone received a mission: those with area-of-effect attacks were tasked with clearing out the bugs, while others were responsible for looting the corpses. After all, they still needed to research the antimatter battery, and cleaning up the battlefield was an essential part of the process.
“Um… Mistk, you’ll be in charge of the logistics team,” Nick said, calling out. “Bring the symbiote agents and Flerkens along, and make sure the cleanup is as thorough as possible. Asgard has helped us a lot this time, so don’t let them find fault with us.”
The figure in the black top hat nodded. Stark and Strange couldn't help but roll their eyes in unison. You sent Greed to loot the loot box, so you two have your eyes on Asgard and are planning to bring it all back, huh?
