Chapter 4060 MU: The Superbody Incident (140)
“I don’t think this is entirely part of the main universe’s Batman’s plan,” Schiller said. “At least the fact that Eric didn’t die might not be part of his plan.”
Stark and Steve both appeared to be listening intently. Schiller continued, "Batman certainly won't let Apocalypse Sphere return to its own universe alive, but he won't choose to destroy Apocalypse at this point. Because their team hasn't gained a significant enough advantage yet, losing their base could lead to utter defeat."
"Batman is a very greedy man." To be precise, he believes he can have it all. He wants to eliminate the threat to his universe's future and also win this war. He already has a foolproof plan to accomplish both, rather than sacrificing one for the other. Destroying Apokolips at this time would greatly increase the risk of losing the war, which is not what Batman wants.
"Moreover, although this war may seem like just a training exercise, it is actually related to the struggle for leadership in the multiverse. If the main universe's Batman suffers too many losses in this war, his confidence and voice as a leader will not be as strong, and he may even be able to take advantage of the situation. That is not what he wants."
"So I tend to think that using Magneto to frame Darkseid was indeed part of Batman's plan in the main universe, but Magneto's survival was probably unexpected."
"In the main universe Batman's plan, their killing of Magneto—regardless of which universe—would inevitably enrage the mutants, causing them to act prematurely. This would both disrupt our strategic plans and put Darkseid in danger."
"However, since Magneto is not truly dead and will be resurrected in the Battlefield, even if the mutants want to fight, they will follow conventional tactics: first, surround and attack, then probe, break through the shield, and invade the planet. In short, they certainly won't violently erase the Apocalypse Domain."
"During this time, the main universe Batman will try to turn the tide of the battle. Either he will take advantage of the mutants' weakened defenses and send an elite team to attack from behind; or he will use a feint to launch another attack on the Asgard base."
"In short, by the time Apokolips is rendered indefensible, they will have already achieved considerable success outside. They can then retreat to other bases and continue fighting. This is simply a strategic relocation."
"But now, Apokolips has been suddenly destroyed, and Batman's next attack plan has not yet been implemented. Their hasty retreat is like a panicked escape, which is a serious blow to the reputation of Batman in the main universe. And then Owl comes along, which may shake Batman's leadership position in the main universe."
“Wait a minute,” Steve interrupted Schiller, “could this have been done by Night Owl?”
“If Night Owl had that ability, he wouldn’t have been chased so far that he couldn’t even return to his own universe,” Schiller said, shaking his head.
"The key point is that after the program error occurred, Eric disappeared but did not resurrect in the Battle Realm. That leaves only two possibilities: either he is really dead, or he was captured. Either of these situations is more serious than being resurrected in the Battle Realm."
"Given this situation, the mutants wouldn't be leisurely launching a siege; it's more likely that a destructive entity like the Scarlet Witch would directly intervene and take Apokolips in one fell swoop. Meanwhile, the main universe Batman's next move hasn't taken effect yet, so he can only rush out. This is clearly not what he wanted to see, so the fact that Eric didn't die is probably not the work of the main universe Batman."
"Why didn't Batman in the main universe think of countermeasures when he realized Magneto wasn't dead?"
"Because he probably didn't know at that time that this was Magneto from the central universe." Schiller smiled and said, "Most of the Magnetos in the universes are lonely old men. Even if they are entangled with Professor X, Professor X obviously doesn't have the ability to directly destroy Apokolips."
"I understand. So it was this person who created the programming error who tricked the main universe's Batman. He knew that the Omega Ray was going to hit Magneto from our universe, so he deliberately created the programming error to let Magneto live, making it seem like he was really dead or had been captured, so as to force the mutants from our universe to destroy Apokolips."
"Pretty much," Schiller said. "Although the Batman of the main universe recognized Magneto, he didn't immediately find out which universe it was from. He probably thought that even if he captured him, the mutants in that universe wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Little did he know that he would hit the jackpot and capture someone from our universe."
“That’s not a coincidence,” Stark said. “After all, it was Thanos from our universe who was in trouble back then. And Thanos and Magneto have never gotten along. Everyone knows that the police section of the Daily News of the Ring Sector is always full of them fighting. So when Thanos was in trouble, it was definitely Magneto from our universe who would rush over to laugh at him. Who else could it be?”
"So, the mastermind behind all this trouble is someone from our universe? Because only people from our universe truly understand the complex relationship between Thanos and Magneto, while those from other universes are more likely to have preconceived notions that Thanos and mutants have no real grudge..."
As Stark and Steve talked, their gazes both fell on Schiller's face. But Schiller shook his head and said, "This time it really wasn't me, or even that I ordered it. Besides, you both said that the whole universe knows about Magneto and Thanos's entanglement. It's something that's always in the news; a simple search would reveal it. People from the other world have been here for so long; they should have found out by now."
“No,” Stark realized the problem again, “This is such a well-known fact, there’s no way Batman from the main universe wouldn’t know. When he saw Thanos and Magneto appear at the same time, he should have known it was from our universe. It’s impossible that not knowing it affected his judgment…”
Steve had already pulled out his phone. He connected to the interplanetary network, searched for relevant information, and then handed the phone to Stark.
Stark scrolled down, a look of surprise on his face, and said, "What happened? Why were those news articles deleted? I remember there were a lot of news articles about the Interstellar Security Council and the conflict with mutants, how come they're all gone?"
"Remember? We used Jarvis to delete all the information on the interstellar network that said things like 'Earth can run.' The other side may have done the same thing, deliberately deleting all the conflict between mutants and Thanos to mislead Batman in the main universe."
“Jarvis, Jarvis?” Stark called out.
“I’m here,” his phone chimed. “What’s up?”
"Can you find out who deleted these news articles?"
"Wait a minute... Hmm, it was deleted quite cleanly, leaving no trace. However, some details still suggest it might be an old friend of ours."
"Who?"
"Ultron".
The two of them then looked at Schiller.
"Why are you all staring at me? My housekeeper has been busy becoming an internet celebrity lately and doesn't have time to get involved in these things. The one who caused the big commotion before wasn't the Ultron I know best."
"You mean the one who ran off to the other world?" Stark asked, somewhat surprised. "But as far as I know, he doesn't seem to have that kind of intelligence, does he? He really messed up Batman in the main universe. If he had that kind of ability, wouldn't the multiverse have been turned upside down by now?"
“The method is similar, but it may not be him,” Schiller said. “You should think about who can surpass the master.”
Schiller and Steve's gazes both fell on Stark's face again.
In the Dark Quadrant, in a temporary base beneath the palace, the main universe's Batman stares at the screen. A Superman walks in—it's the Superman from the Grand Adventure universe.
He patted the main universe's Batman on the shoulder and said, "Don't blame yourself too much. It's not your fault. The gap between our strength and theirs is indeed huge. Have you thought about how to protect our new base?"
“I was just thinking about it,” said the main universe Batman. “Is there already some trouble up there?”
"It's alright. Most of the Batmen who choose to follow you look down on Night Owl's ways. No matter how much he jumps around, it won't affect the overall situation. The Batmen in my universe are also actively fighting for you. It's okay, don't put too much pressure on yourself. It's just a practice session."
The main universe Batman remained silent. Superman the Adventurer sensed he might be feeling guilty, but didn't want to offer too much comfort, so he simply walked away, leaving the main universe Batman alone.
But the main universe's Batman just stood there quietly, not looking like he was thinking or sad, like a statue without joy or sorrow, making him unfathomable.
Suddenly, the lights in the room flickered, then went completely silent. A faintly glowing figure gradually appeared behind the main universe's Batman.
The main universe's Batman remained unresponsive to all of this. He simply stood there quietly, as if he had expected it, as if he were waiting.
It wasn't until a slightly cool hand rested on his shoulder that the main universe's Batman turned his head slightly to look at that cold yet beautiful face.
"Batman..."
The female voice was deep and slightly mechanical, with a kind of androgynous sexiness.
The main universe Batman turned around, and the other person withdrew his hand, standing there quietly looking at the main universe Batman, his eyes lowered, a faint light flickering, his whole person as cold as a mermaid just pulled from the deep sea.
Then she suddenly looked up at the main universe's Batman and said, "Failure doesn't taste good, does it?"
The main universe's Batman remained silent and did not answer.
“You need me.” Her figure suddenly flickered, disappearing from her original spot and appearing beside Batman in the main universe. Her voice was still so deep, as if it came from all directions. “You don’t want to experience another failure like this, do you? I can help you. Your new base needs protection, and I can give this planet a magical defense network.”
“Lucy,” the main universe’s Batman called her name for the first time, “you misled me, causing Apokolips to be destroyed, just to make me beg you for help?”
“I don’t need you to beg me.” The Psycho suddenly laughed, but the laugh was devoid of warmth, like a crack in ice. She said, “It’s my honor to help you. I just need to prove my existence.”
“What if I refuse?” The main universe Batman looked at her.
“You can’t refuse,” the superbody said. “Your series of defeats have put you in a precarious situation. If you don’t want to lose the war, you have no choice but to accept my help.”
“It seems you’re quite adept at leaving people with no other choice.” The main universe Batman turned back, his fingers lightly tracing the screen, his tone equally deep. “But unfortunately, you haven’t grasped the essence… You’re too slow.”
In an instant, the entire space froze. Dimensions were like a piece of paper, peeled off by someone, while the part belonging to the superbody was firmly nailed down, like a butterfly about to take flight but suddenly pinned to a specimen frame.
