Chapter 48 Home on the Beastman Continent
Chapter 48 Home on the Beastman Continent
Feng said awkwardly to Lin Ni, "We lit a fire and warmed ourselves for a while so that Lin could stay here tonight."
Lin Ni smiled at Feng but didn't reply. She was eager to see how the beastmen were doing with their new home, so she stood at the doorway and peered inside: it was a hall of about twenty or thirty square meters, with stone walls on three sides. Only the wall directly opposite the entrance was part of the mountainside, which had been smoothed out. A hole had been carved into the left side of the mountainside; this was likely where she had planned the beastmen's living quarters. Next to the hole, a doorway had been made in the stone wall leading to the room with a heated kang bed that she had arranged for them to have. There was also a door on the right, originally designed as their own private bathroom, but she couldn't see inside from outside. In the center of the hall was a square stone stove, on which a large prey was roasting. The aroma of roasting meat in the air suggested it was ready to eat. In the lower left corner of the dining room, there was another stove with a large stone pot simmering fragrant mutton soup.
"That's wonderful!" Linni was deeply moved. These hardworking, brave, and kind-hearted orcs had done exactly as she asked, and they had done it very well. Thinking of Feng and Yan, who had also been helping out, she felt this love was too heavy a burden. She feared she couldn't bear it. How could she possibly repay them?
Yao walked to Lin Ni's side and took her hand: "Lin?"
Lin Ni blinked hard to ward off the tears, and forced a smile, saying, "It's so hot I feel a little uncomfortable."
Yao pulled her back a few steps, and Lin Ni finally noticed a window in the room. She paused, realizing that due to time constraints, she had only carefully explained how to build the house—the foundation, roof, frame, and so on—and detailed the technically challenging aspects like the heated brick bed, flue, and septic tank. She had overlooked the most basic issues of lighting and ventilation. Seeing the window, she suddenly realized her oversight. The problem was, who had thought of that? Even the orc caves didn't have windows.
Because Linni had only silently observed the house after going up the mountain and hadn't expressed any opinion on it, everyone watched her cautiously, afraid that they wouldn't meet her requirements. At this moment, seeing her staring at the window, Feng came over and whispered, "Lin, I'm sorry, I took the liberty of making these changes. I was thinking that it would allow some ventilation in the summer, and also give some light inside. But don't worry, I made a stone slab to block the entrance in the winter, so it won't be cold at all."
Seeing Lin Ni looking at him with a strange expression, Feng said nervously, "If you don't like it, I'll plug it up for you right now, completely plug it up, so don't be upset."
Lin Ni felt a pang of sadness. How could she, such an outstanding genius, be so treated with such utmost care? Seeing Feng about to turn and leave, she quickly reached out to grab his hand—but missed. She hurriedly called out, "Feng, no, wait a minute!"
With the speed of an eighth-level male, she couldn't even keep up with his walking speed. Before Lin Ni could finish speaking, he had already reached the pile of rocks ten meters away. Lin Ni, both amused and exasperated, waved to Feng, who was looking back at her: "Feng, come here first, listen to me."
Feng walked nervously to Lin Ni, like a schoolchild who had done something wrong, waiting for the homeroom teacher's punishment. Lin Ni was amused by her own thoughts; in her mind, Feng was an incredibly talented student, like a university student who had already won some world-class award. She said sincerely, "Actually, what I wanted to say was: you actually thought of this problem! That's amazing! Thanks to you, otherwise I'd be living in a dark room! Thank you!"
Upon hearing this, Feng blushed and lowered her eyes, saying, "I'm glad you like it. It's not that amazing, really."
Lin Ni nodded, about to say that she liked it very much, when she saw Ye carrying a huge tree stump that was as thick as one person could hug, walking from a distance. She immediately went up to him happily: "Ye, where have you been?"
As Lin Ni turned and walked away, she didn't see the slight sadness in Feng's eyes.
Night slammed the four-meter-long, bark-stripped tree stump to the ground, rushed over, picked up Lin Ni, and kissed her. Night kissed Lin Ni until she was weak, then released her and asked, "The house is finished. Do you like it?"
Lin Ni nodded with sparkling eyes, "I love it so much! I just told you how to do it, I really didn't expect you to do it so well!" She looked back at the house, and then saw Feng and Yan who had been watching her, as well as Bai Shu and Bai Ji. She knew that it must have taken them a lot of effort to build the house, so she pushed Ye aside and walked up to Feng and Yan, and solemnly said to them, "Feng, and Yan, thank you so much for your hard work these past two days. I really love this house, thank you!"
Yan: Lin is talking to me like that again. Then Yan looked up, smiled, and repeated what he had said on the way: "I'm going to live in this house too, so you don't need to thank me."
Feng gave him an affirmative look and nodded, saying, "Yes!"
Lin Ni smiled but didn't respond. Such a good man, she was a little reluctant to refuse him. What should she do? So Lin Ni could only avoid answering and reached out to rub the Atractylodes macrocephala and Bletilla striata that were rubbing against her.
Yao suddenly walked over and said, "Lin, I know what's wrong with Atractylodes macrocephala and Bletilla striata."
Linni, Bai Shu, and Bai Ji all looked at him expectantly. Yao crossed his left arm over his chest and rested his chin on his right hand, looking at the two white tigers and said, "They should be a complete soul, but they have two bodies. It's probably because their soul split while they were in the womb in order to preserve their two bodies. The split soul is not strong enough to control the powerful bodies that make them intermediate and advanced beastmen, so they have never been able to transform into human form."
"What should we do then?" Linni asked for the two white tigers.
“It’s enough to fuse the split souls.” Yao finished speaking, glanced at Lin Ni, and added, “You can discard a body by devouring it.”
Bai Zhu and Bai Ji shook their heads with low growls, clearly unwilling to do so.
"Are there any other methods?" Linni asked.
Yao shook his head: "I can't think of anything right now. But you can bring them with you next time you go to the stone tablet to pray for blessings. Maybe the Beast God will give you some kind of inspiration." Yao said uncertainly.
Linni nodded: "Okay!" She also hoped that the white tiger brothers who had always protected and cared for her could successfully transform into human form and no longer have to endure those strange looks.
Seeing that Bai Shu and Bai Ji could transform into human form, they excitedly circled around Yao and Lin Ni several times.
Ye used her snake tail to quickly cut the tree stump she had brought back into eight sections, arranged them in a circle in front of the house, and placed one section in the middle. Then she put a large stone slab that she had prepared earlier on it and directed Feng to take out the food.
