Chapter 3310 Bloody New City (59)
Chapter 3310 Bloodshed in New City (Fifty-nine)
Batman stared down at the information sent by Penguin. This was the competitor he promised Penguin to help him deal with.
Batman looked at these people for a long time, but he couldn't figure out what was going on. They seemed to be just some minions of the Penguin's enemy party. The only important one among them had a conflict of interest with the Penguin's party recently. It would be no problem for the Penguin to deal with them.
But Batman's intuition told him that this was not right. The Penguin was "Xiang Zhuang dancing with a sword, aiming at Pei Gong". But Batman had no idea what his goal was.
Batman was worried that the Penguin had some tricks up his sleeve on Jason, so he couldn't just go back on his word. He could only hand the list to Fox and ask him to find a way to use the Wayne Group to cause trouble for these people.
Fox investigated and found nothing wrong. It seemed like some politicians were just scheming against each other. So he did what he was told.
Batman is now more worried about Jason's problem. But he did not put all his hopes on Schiller, but continued to urge Dr. Tompkins, hoping that she could give a more reliable treatment plan.
Midnight Doctor Piette did not disappoint Tompkins. He went to the upper city to cause some trouble to the rich people, which greatly accelerated the flow of sewers in the upper city, so that they could not concentrate on thinking of any bad ideas for the time being. Finally, Dr. Tompkins was free to do his work.
Dr. Tompkins came to Wayne Manor. Batman had been waiting for her there since early morning. As soon as she saw Batman, Dr. Tompkins said, "I don't think Jason is mentally fit to face the crowd. So before the consultation, I'm going to give him a comprehensive examination. All I ask is that you don't disturb me. OK?"
Batman nodded, but it wasn't because he wanted to agree. It was because after Schiller's visit, the surveillance and listening equipment in the room had been removed, and it wouldn't work if they were installed again. Batman didn't dare to get too close to Jason, and he didn't know anything about Jason's situation.
Dr. Tompkins quickly went upstairs and came to Jason's room, but as soon as he walked in, he found that the room was empty.
She paused subconsciously. The next second, her neck was strangled. But the arm quickly released her. Dr. Tompkins turned around and saw Jason's cold eyes.
It was totally different from the dull look she had seen before. Almost immediately after meeting him, Dr. Tompkins made a conclusion - Jason Todd was not crazy at all, he was just pretending.
Although Jason let go of his hand, he did not apologize. He threw the red hood aside and sat back on the bed.
He was no longer wearing a hospital gown, so Dr. Tompkins could tell from the muscle lines under his tights that he was not a bedridden patient. He must have been exercising.
"Jason?" Dr. Tompkins tried to call out.
Jason responded muffledly. Dr. Tompkins breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That's great. I'm glad you're okay."
Jason didn't respond to her, but just fiddled with the parts of the gun. Dr. Tompkins walked over to sit opposite him and said, "It's been a long time. The last time I saw you was at the dental clinic. You were making a fuss about not wanting to see the dentist..."
Jason's expression rarely changed. He turned his head away and whispered, "Don't talk about this."
Dr. Tompkins finally smiled her only genuine smile in the past few days. But she soon turned sad again and said, "Why did you do this, Jason?"
"what do you mean?"
"Why did you act crazy? Why did you lie to Batman?"
Jason sighed and said, "Before you ask me these questions, I also have a lot of questions for you, Doctor. What did Thomas say to you back then?"
Dr. Tompkins was stunned. She looked at Jason in disbelief and said, "How did you know..."
"I found a tape," Jason said half-seriously. "Thomas talked to you and said something about his mental state, but I couldn't quite make it out. Can you tell me what it was?"
Dr. Tompkins glanced automatically toward the door.
"Don't worry. He can't monitor this place," Jason said.
"Nothing too unusual," Dr. Tompkins said. "Thomas's mental state was not good. I diagnosed him. He was suffering from bipolar disorder. I recommended that he go to a psychiatrist with a license to prescribe some medication."
"that's it?"
Dr. Tompkins's eyes gradually became deeper. She stared into Jason's eyes and said, "You seem to know more than I thought. What do you want to do, Jason?"
"The Wayne family suffers from a mental illness. Right?"
Dr. Tompkins' eyes suddenly widened. She began to cough violently, as if she was going to cough out her lungs.
Jason just kept staring at her.
Dr. Tompkins paused for a moment, resting his hands on the back of the chair next to him. After a moment's hesitation, he said, "You have to promise not to tell Batman... Well, it seems like you are the last person to tell him."
"I...had that suspicion," Dr. Tompkins said. "You may not know the history of the Wayne family. But Thomas told me some of it."
"The Wayne family is from England. About 300 years ago, an ancestor named Edmund Wayne traveled across the ocean to Gotham Valley and became one of the first builders of today's Gotham."
"This ancestor defeated the cruel warlord who ruled Gotham Valley and won freedom for the people here. The Wayne family thus became the most prominent family in Gotham."
"But for some reason, all the patriarchs of the Wayne family have had bad endings. They were all assassinated. Some people say that this is because the warlord left a curse before his death, cursing all the heirs of the Gotham family to have a bad death."
"I don't believe this rumor. Thomas's behavior makes me believe that the Wayne family may suffer from a strange genetic disease."
"Then why was he assassinated?" Jason asked a key question.
"I discussed the connection with Thomas," Dr. Tompkins said. "Thomas believes this is a conspiracy. He thinks someone may have poisoned them and assassinated them when they were in a trance. In this way, rumors of the curse would spread to overthrow the Wayne family."
"This is untenable," Jason said, "If they can poison someone, why not just poison all the heirs?"
"So there is another possibility." Dr. Tompkins lowered his voice and said, "Someone wants to drive the Wayne family crazy, but they don't want them to die. It's just that Thomas and I can't figure out what their purpose is in doing this."
Jason fell into deep thought.
"You know that Batman is being used by them. Right?" Jason asked after a while.
Dr. Tompkins nodded with some difficulty.
"A paranoid lunatic is more likely to be exploited." Jason gave his speculation, "He cannot fully control his own mind, so he is naturally unable to expose the conspiracy. He has been intoxicated in the illusory dream of being a hero, and has become a tool for some people to make money."
Dr. Tompkins' fingertips trembled. She bit her lip hard and said, "But why Bruce?"
"Because Thomas noticed it," Jason said. "Think carefully about what Thomas said to you. Did he really not hint at anything?"
Dr. Tompkins's thoughts became confused. She tried hard to recall the scene, and the many fragments of language and expressions gradually pieced together. Her fists clenched tighter and tighter.
"If that was the case, he was probably asking for help," Dr. Tompkins said. "He knew someone was trying to do this. He came to me hoping I could get him out of his madness so he could deal with them."
"But he failed," Jason said. "They found him difficult to control, so they killed him. That way they could train his children. From the current situation, it seems that they succeeded."
"We have to help Batman," said Dr. Tompkins. "If he finds out the truth one day, he'll go crazy."
"Do you think he doesn't know the truth?" Jason shook his head and said, "If he suffers from bipolar disorder as you said, then his IQ is normal. After going through so much, wouldn't he know that he did something wrong? He just doesn't want to admit it."
"He's not that kind of person," Dr. Tompkins denied subconsciously.
"He just doesn't realize the seriousness of the problem." Jason leaned forward and looked Dr. Tompkins in the eye. "Alfred may not have died of natural causes."
Dr. Tompkins froze. She stared at Jason and asked, "What evidence do you have?"
"It's because I don't have any evidence that I want to look for it. You have to help me find it too." Jason said bluntly, "If we can really find any clues, it will prove that our speculation is correct. They just want to drive Batman crazy. To this end, they will eliminate his close relatives one by one, including you, me, and that new guy..."
Dr. Tompkins's hands were shaking more and more. She stood up and said, "What did you find out? What do you want me to do?"
Jason stroked the mask in his hand and said, "When Alfred's condition was not serious, he had been receiving treatment in Wayne Hospital. There was nothing wrong with the medical records. But I found that he had five X-ray examinations in one week."
"Five times?!" Dr. Tompkins said in shock. "Why so many tests? Alfred is old, and the tumor won't develop that fast. There's no need to check so frequently."
Jason shook his head and said, "This is not my area of expertise, Dr. Tompkins. I know you have classmates and friends at Wayne Hospital. Maybe you can find a way to check it out."
After Dr. Tompkins left, Jason took out a cell phone that Schiller had left for him. There were some photos on his cell phone, all of which were Alfred's medical records.
He stared at the photos in silence, his mind full of memories of the old housekeeper. After a while, he seemed to have made a decision and sent all the photos to a number.
Nightwing, who was on patrol, took out his cell phone. After seeing those photos and the long string of text, he widened his eyes in disbelief.
A few minutes later, the roar of a motorcycle sounded at the entrance of the GTO headquarters. Nightwing rushed into Batgirl's office like crazy and showed her what he had received.
Batgirl was also incredulous. She immediately turned on the computer and quickly entered the internal system of Wayne Hospital.
After searching the system for a long time, she slowly said, "Something is wrong. Alfred died not long ago, how come he can't be found in any of the surveillance footage?"
"Someone deleted the surveillance?!"
"I'm afraid so," Batgirl said, looking back at Nightwing, "It would cover up the fact that he's been taken to the exam room for examinations with an unusual frequency."
Nightwing's grip on the back of the chair tightened instantly. Then he suddenly seemed to remember something and said, "Check the doctors and nurses who passed by his ward. If they were really bribed, there would definitely be signs of abnormal activities."
Batgirl looked at the screen again.
