Chapter 3719 Doomsday (Part 12)
"You want me to kill people from the three great empires at the banquet?!" Polaris looked at Charles in disbelief. "But didn't you always tell me to avoid conflicts with those Skrulls? You also told me to control my temper and not to always pick fights..."
“Sit down, Lorna, sit down.” Charles patted Polaris’s arm reassuringly, gesturing for her to sit. Polaris slowly sat down. Charles said, “Things are different now than before. Our focus in the Andromeda Galaxy is on construction, so of course we need to quietly make a fortune. Besides, your father is enough to handle the fighting. He’s much better at choosing targets than you. Think about it, when has he ever plundered the most resources with the least amount of effort? What about you?”
Polaris blushed slightly. She pursed her lips, recalling how she used to admire Magneto's prowess and try to raid convoys like him, only to nearly fail several times. Not only did she get injured, but she also failed to acquire much supplies. From then on, she had to admit that robbery required skill.
Magneto, a seasoned veteran, is adept at distinguishing between easy and difficult targets. Not only does he consistently pick on the weak, but he also runs away quickly, never taking more than his share. Polaris, on the other hand, is completely incapable of discerning which transport fleets are easy to attack and which are not. After attacking, he tries to grab more cargo and lingers, nearly getting captured by enemy reinforcements several times. Each time he returns, he receives a severe scolding.
"Then what's going on this time?" Polaris said. "They didn't bring any supplies, did they? And this is Asgard; it's not good to kill people on their territory, is it?"
“You’ve grown up,” Charles said with some relief.
Looking at Charles's remarkably youthful face, Polaris was visibly embarrassed. She rubbed her arms and said, "If you don't want to change back before we talk, then let's not discuss this anymore, Professor. Let's get down to business. Why did I go and kill people from the three great empires?"
"Just looking for trouble."
"what?"
"Simply put, Earth needs a ticket to participate in interstellar affairs, not just to be nominally affiliated with Asgard, but to participate independently. Just like the United Nations—you know the United Nations, right?"
Polaris nodded.
"It's like the US, China, and Russia are fighting, and we're a state within another powerful developed country. All three countries are vying for the support of this developed country, and we want to get involved, all for the sake of independence. How do you think we can get involved?"
Polaris frowned and said, "You mean, kill the diplomatic ambassadors sent by these three countries? Isn't that a bit too extreme? Not to mention these three countries, Asgard alone wouldn't allow this, would it? Are we going to break ties with Asgard?"
"On the contrary, Asgard will support us," Charles shook his head and said. "Although it's chaotic right now, the war will end sooner or later. In the peacetime after the war, voting will still be the primary system. As a peripheral power that has long been uninvolved in cosmic affairs, Asgard only has half a vote. Which of the three empires doesn't have numerous vassals? Asgard would love to have more votes. If they could, they would also like every race in the Nine Realms to have a vote, so that they could rival the three empires."
Polaris thought about it and realized it did make sense. In the United Nations, major powers hold the votes of many smaller nations. Even if they lose the vote, a large enough number of votes can exert significant pressure. Isn't that how voting works?
Asgard didn't care before because they had no intention of participating in interstellar affairs. But now that they intend to rejoin interstellar society, they will inevitably need to campaign for votes.
But how many allies does Asgard have? More importantly, how many of them are truly capable? During Odin's years of conquest, he nearly wiped out all the named races in the Nine Realms, leaving only the Dark Elves, who were essentially useless. Now, Asgard's only remaining option is humanity.
Therefore, humanity should seize this opportunity to secure an independent vote. Asgard will certainly support this; at least when the Interstellar Council votes in the future, having someone vote alongside them will prevent them from looking too bad. Other advanced civilizations besides the three great empires are like small countries on Earth, typically only getting one or two votes. Asgard would be lucky to get one and a half votes.
Polaris nodded, indicating that she understood, and then she said, "But the three great empires are still the three great empires. If we kill their people, won't they be even more opposed to us joining the United Nations?"
Charles shook his head again and said, "Lorna, think about it carefully. Which of the countries in the United Nations today, especially the important permanent members, got in with the consent of other countries? And why can't those countries that are not permanent members get the consent of others?"
Polaris clearly lacked that kind of political acumen; her brain was practically boiling over. So she resorted to her trump card, shaking Charles's arm and saying, "Stop beating around the bush, Professor. Just tell me directly; I really can't think of anything."
Charles was now truly worried. These young mutants were decent fighters, but when it came to politics, they were all hopeless, each one a complete dwarf.
"Becoming a permanent member of the Security Council isn't about asking, it's about fighting," Charles said bluntly. "If you ask others if you can become a permanent member, it proves you'll never become one. Because there's only one way to become a permanent member: beat everyone into submission. Then they'll be begging you to be one."
"Oh—" Polaris suddenly realized, and then she said excitedly, "So this time I'm going to cause trouble, find a pretext to start a war, and then defeat everyone, and we'll naturally get the voting rights, right?"
“There’s no need to subdue everyone. Just make them all feel the pain,” Charles said, spreading his hands. “Humanity certainly can’t wipe out the three great empires all at once, but as long as we can hold our own against three, even if it’s just temporarily, that’s enough to give us a significant position in the Interstellar Council.”
“It seems that’s really the case.” Polaris stroked his chin and said, “The five permanent members of the UN Security Council all seem to have fought against many countries at the same time and haven’t lost. If we can do that, the three great empires will have to give us face.”
“That’s right.” Charles nodded with a smile. “Unfortunately, the three great empires still remember humanity’s past activities in the universe, so they probably won’t provoke us. In that case, we’ll have to create an accident to start our battle for votes.”
"Accident? What accident?"
“It’s hard to say right now, but we’ll always find an opportunity,” Charles said. “Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Not only will the mutants actively create opportunities for you, but we also have many helpers. You know the others well; the only one you need to watch out for is one person: Dr. Doom, the King of Latvia…”
“Haha, that guy really infuriated Tony Stark.” Poppy the Iceman, sitting across from Polaris, said in a low voice, “I really don’t know what grudge those two have that they have to fight on someone else’s turf.”
Polaris snapped out of her daze and suddenly realized something. She turned to look at Stark, who had slammed his fist on the table, and immediately tensed her muscles, giving the Iceman a look.
Almost instantly, golden light and the roar of venom intertwined, and the huge black figure bounced twice like a marble before slamming heavily onto the table in front of Polaris.
The glass shattered, food splattered. If you were to press pause at this moment and look elsewhere, you would see the culprit, Doctor Doom, dart under the table, Scarlet Witch recoil in terror, superheroes flee in panic, and Omega-level mutants bewildered, until Polaris screams:
"what!!!!!!!"
"Oh no! She's going to lose control!!!" Instead of stopping her, Wanda used her precious emergency response time to shout, "Run!!!"
In an instant, countless superpowered lights shone, the restaurant's glass shattered, and the diners grabbed each other and ran out, disappearing in just two or three seconds.
Steve held his shield in front of him, leaped down from the building, and rushed to the plaza in front of Asgard at top speed. The others also landed in all sorts of different ways.
Immediately afterwards, an electromagnetic storm swept through the celestial palace, and visible magnetic arcs shot into the sky, shattering the main island's protective shield with a "crack." The magnetic storm spread out from the breach, and the entire island began to tremble.
"Oh no! The stability system has been compromised!" Steve said, frowning. "Quick, let's get to the God King first!"
Just as the group was running towards the King's chambers in Asgard, envoys from all the other civilizations emerged from their bedrooms, utterly bewildered. What was going on? The three great empires had invaded Asgard?!
The people of the other two empires seemed to have anticipated this. The Supreme Intelligence slammed his fist on the table, and all the Kree soldiers ran out like madmen, only to run right into the Skrull Empire, who were also running for their lives.
These two old rivals have never been so happy to see each other alive—one more person means one more shield! Enough said, let's run! The slowest runners are in the front row!
The two groups took off running towards the back garden, and the others who had come out were also led by them. But before they could even leave the territory of the Celestial Palace, a white light flashed, and everyone was knocked unconscious.
Don't forget, both the Kree and Skrull Empires are composed of cyborgs. What are machines most afraid of? EMPs, right?
Their defenses are high, and ordinary electromagnetic storms are no match for them, but Polaris at full power is no pushover. She's been with Magneto in the Andromeda Galaxy for years, and while she may not have learned everything about her father's abilities, she's certainly mastered at least 80%. Furthermore, since she wasn't truly out of control, but rather deliberately targeting them, she wiped out the entire Kree and Skrull Empire.
The others weren't spared either; they weren't knocked over by Polaris, but by Wanda—they all passed out.
When they woke up again, they received the terrible news that twelve members of the delegation from the Shia Empire, one of the three great empires, had died and four were seriously injured.
The first chapter was reviewed, so it's a bit late. Sorry.
