Chapter 3782 Rapid Pursuit (End)
The Silent Batman had indeed teamed up with the Scarecrow. Batman in the helicopter squinted. He was considering whether to go down and help, but soon he noticed another figure appear at the bridgehead. The rain was pouring down harder.
"Help me! Batman! Help me!!!"
Someone was calling out in the rainy night. The Silent Batman, who had just gotten up from the ground, spat out a mouthful of blood. He turned around and saw Jonathan Klein, covered in blood, limping towards him.
He slammed the two remaining fear gas grenades on the ground, hoping to force the approaching figure back. But alas, the figure wielding the longsword continued to slowly close in. With so many claws, no one could withstand a single blow from him.
Schiller, who was crouching behind the Batmobile shooting, glanced over there: "So it's a morbid condition."
Fear gas also has a central nervous system stimulant effect; otherwise, it wouldn't induce hallucinations. Now, the stimulant's effect has worn off, and the fear gas is back—it's like there's a refill!
The morbid man retrieved the longsword and slashed it across Jonathan's back as he stumbled and fell in his panic. Jonathan screamed, his will to survive driving him to run forward until he hid behind the Silent Batman.
The Silent Batman had no time for him right now. He saw the Fear Gas grenade Jonathan threw and knew this was his chance. Once the Batman in the metal armor was infected with the Fear Gas, his movements would be slowed down, and he could use that opportunity to defeat him.
So he slowly approached Arkham Batman. Batman, who was observing the entire scene from the helicopter, could hardly bear to watch.
The Scarecrow of this universe is quite something, throwing the Fear Gas at the two people least afraid of it. And the Batman of this universe isn't bad either; instead of using the Fear Gas as a stepping stone, he pretends to be unconscious and instead tries to provoke that fiend next to him.
Batman saw it all clearly: Batman from Arkham took down five Claws in three moves with his bare hands. Three of them were conservatively estimated to be paralyzed, while the remaining two fell off the bridge hundreds of meters high and probably made it back to the city quickly.
Taking advantage of his size, the Silent Batman lunged at the Arkham Batman, intending to throw him to the ground and then use his weight to subdue him.
But it was as if Arkham Batman had eyes in the back of his head. The instant the Silent Batman jumped, an uppercut shattered his jawbone, followed by a powerful downward kick that slammed into his lower abdomen. Upon landing, the Silent Batman felt a numbness in his legs, followed by loss of sensation.
boom!
A loud gunshot sounded more like a rallying cry than a signal to retreat. Joker rushed out, the dark muzzle of his gun pointed at Arkham Batman.
He was about to say something when Jonathan's scream came from the side again. With Batman blocking his view, Joker couldn't see what was happening over there, but soon the rain washed over him with bright red blood.
When Schiller emerged from behind the Batmobile carrying a blood-stained longsword, the Joker was momentarily at a loss as to who to point his gun at.
Just when everyone thought Schiller would rush up and attack Joker, he turned his head, seemingly lost in thought. His barren, unfocused gray eyes didn't linger on anyone for long.
Suddenly, he turned his head, stared intently at the Silent Batman on the ground, and walked over step by step with his long sword in hand.
"Stop!" Joker shouted, "You damn madman!"
Just then, the sound of grappling hooks being thrown came from the side of the bridge, and countless black figures dressed as assassins leaped onto the bridge, gradually surrounding the group. Talia stepped out from the crowd.
"Haven't you caused enough trouble?" Talia said angrily. "I don't know where all these lunatics came from. You all deserve to go to hell!"
With a wave of her hand, countless assassins rushed forward. But clearly, the few killing gods on the bridge had no intention of retreating, displaying an attitude of "I'll kill as many as you come."
The morbid forces charged straight at Talia, Arkham Batman and Dick grappled with each other, while the agent and Joker took down the assassins who jumped at them with a single shot.
Chaos erupted on the bridge. Batman said to the helicopter pilot, "Closer, I need to get off."
He had to find a way to get the Silent Batman out. Although this Batman seemed to be blinded by hatred, he hadn't done anything wrong except ordering Jonathan to kill an assassin. Batman couldn't let him die in the chaos.
The helicopter landed on the bridge, and Batman jumped off, rolled to dissipate the force, and charged towards the Silent Batman lying on the bridge. Although several assassins tried to stop him, he successfully evaded them all.
As Batman ran, he silently observed his surroundings. The Court of Owls and the League of Assassins had come with a considerable force this time; it was probably their entire main force on the East Coast. With just a few men, they really couldn't outlast them.
But the people in front of him were clearly in a killing frenzy, completely disregarding the growing number of people surrounding them. Batman wanted to dissuade them, but knew he couldn't change their minds.
He had just scooped the Silent Batman up from the ground and hoisted him onto his shoulder when he suddenly realized that Schiller had pinned Dick to the ground with his longsword, staring straight at him with a chilling smile.
In that instant, Batman thought of many things.
There must be something he overlooked.
Suddenly, he realized what Schiller had in common with the people he was hunting down—they were all mentally unstable, antisocial lunatics.
But there is one exception: Jason Todd.
Batman's alarm bells rang. In an instant, a sharp whistling sound rang out from above.
"Raptor missile!"
Batman whirled around and saw the blazing trails of over a dozen missiles faintly visible through the rain. He dashed toward the bridge at top speed, but it was too late.
boom! boom! boom! boom! boom!
After an unknown amount of time, Batman regained consciousness. He found himself lying on the bank of a river, on a damp patch of mud. At the edge of his vision was the Gotham Bridge, completely blown in two.
A figure struggled to drag the person in the water to the shore. Batman rubbed his eyes, and when he saw the green hair and the gaping maw, he thought he was having another nightmare.
“Batman, you owe me another favor,” said the Joker from the main universe, completely unharmed. “Out of so many people, I was the first to pull you out. If you had stayed in the water any longer, you might have died. How are you going to thank me?”
Batman didn't really want to talk to him. He closed his eyes, turned his head to the side, and began to think about what was going on.
He knew Schiller wasn't an assassin. Or rather, his lethality went far beyond simply chasing and hacking down some madman. Schiller's approach to Jason wasn't about becoming a Supreme Court Justice; he wanted to get the missile's location out of that simpleton. His goal was to wipe out the Court of Owls and the League of Assassins.
The only minor problem is that he also wiped out all the players and allies.
Batman wasn't at the epicenter of the explosion and had jumped off the bridge beforehand, so he wasn't seriously injured. But looking at the unconscious Arkham Batman beside him, he could easily imagine just how powerful those dozen or so missiles were.
Fortunately, Batman is quite resilient. Schiller is not bad either, and the Joker is even more so. All the allies are still alive, including the Silent Batman, but he is the most severely injured and is basically on his last breath.
The Joker hummed a song nearby, showing no intention of taking them to the hospital. Just as Batman was about to speak, a red-haired figure rushed over.
"God!" Barbara screamed. She immediately called to the rebels behind her, "Quick! Get them to the hospital!!!"
A few days later, Schiller and Batman arrived at Wayne Enterprises' laboratory. The equipment used for storing brains and performing head transplants had already been set up there, along with Elliott's body.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Batman asked.
“Of course,” Schiller said through gritted teeth. “If it weren’t for that maniacal laughter, would I have suffered like this?!”
Batman was speechless, his expression clearly saying, "Are you sure it's your maniacal laughter that's causing you this suffering?"
“Of course,” Schiller answered to himself. “If he hadn’t set a trap on the teleportation device and produced such a high concentration of stimulants, the Pathologist wouldn’t have been chasing him. He wouldn’t have come to this universe, and the Pathologist wouldn’t have wiped us all out with missiles. Who else is to blame but him?!”
Batman couldn't refute it. He could only say, "During my stay in the hospital, I deduced the probability of the experiment's success. Although I was fairly certain, there were definitely risks involved..."
“I can’t worry about that now.” Schiller walked straight to the water tank. Then, the Silent Batman, in his wheelchair, was pushed by the Arkham Batman and also came to the laboratory.
They made some modifications to the details of the plan.
Now, they're going to take the Hush Batman's brain out, put it in a water tank, and then put the Joker's brain from the Broken Batman universe, which was already in the tank, into the Hush Batman's body.
The reason for this is that the Silent Batman's body was damaged by the attack from the Arkham Batman, leaving him partially paralyzed with very little chance of natural recovery. His body is essentially unusable.
They'll give him a new body. However, considering there's a high chance the Laughing Egg is inside, they won't waste it. They'll replace it with the Joker's brain and use it as the new Laughing Egg.
As for how they knew the new Maniac would be resurrected from this body, it's because they prepared Elliott's body for the old Maniac. The old Maniac knew he was destined to clash with the new Maniac, so he would definitely find a body for the new Maniac that was even inferior to Elliott's. The paralyzed, silent Batman was the best choice.
After formulating their plan, they proceeded methodically. First, they performed craniotomy, removed the Silent Batman's brain, and placed it in a water tank for brain preservation. Then, they removed the brain of the Broken Bat Cosmic Joker and placed it inside the Silent Batman's brain.
Next, they opened the Laughing Man's head, which they had retrieved from Jason, and placed it in another water tank. This tank was made of a special material that could completely block all signals. All of the Laughing Man's brainwaves were sealed away.
Unsurprisingly, the instant the brainwaves of his maniacal laughter were severed, the Silent Batman lying on the adjacent lab table began to move. He started convulsing violently, as if something was bursting forth from within him.
Meanwhile, the brainwave readings from inside the tank containing the Laughing Brain were growing weaker and weaker. Looking at the detector panel, Arkham Batman said, "That's about it."
Schiller removed the laughing bat's brain and placed it inside Elliott's corpse. Sure enough, the brainwave readings of both corpses gradually recovered—meaning that two laughing bats were about to arrive in the universe.
However, one is paralyzed on one side, while the other is even worse off.
