Chapter 3788 The School Doctor's "Daily Life" (Part 3)

Schiller had no idea that on the first day of the new semester at the magic academy, his school hospital would receive its first patient—a night owl suffering from hypoglycemia.

When Night Owl was brought over by the Hippo Goddess, Schiller stood dumbfounded at the door, watching her carry him inside.

"No, what happened? Is Batman experiencing low blood sugar?"

Schiller thought this news was definitely one of the biggest cosmic events of the year, maybe even a contender for the top spot. He really couldn't understand how Batman could have low blood sugar.

Just then, a figure crept up behind the Hippo Goddess. Lucifer dragged Schiller into the office, closed the door, and then gave a somewhat embarrassed smile, saying, "This is my fault."

"What exactly happened?" Schiller couldn't help but ask.

"Have you forgotten how they got here? Not through the Battle Realm, but I used the universe to send them to the outside of your Origin Wall, then into the multiverse, and finally into the barrier of the single universe."

"Yes, but what does that have to do with his low blood sugar?"

"Because we have to cross many cosmic barriers, the information conversion involved is very complicated, so I told them to fast before we came."

"what?"

"How so? It's about emptying the body of energy as much as possible. If you're a god, you have to exhaust your divine power; if you're a human, you have to keep your energy level as low as possible to facilitate information processing."

"So they didn't eat before they came?"

"No, and they might have been hungry for two or three days. You know, that's the kind of personality Batman has. As long as I tell them, they'll take the initiative to minimize the risk to prevent any accidents from happening."

"Then why was he the only one with low blood sugar?"

"You're a doctor, don't you know that?"

“I’m a psychologist, I…” Schiller was about to say that he really didn’t know, but after thinking about it, he actually came up with some clues.

Blood sugar levels reflect the body's glucose metabolism, which varies from person to person. Some people metabolize glucose quickly, while others metabolize it more slowly, resulting in different average blood sugar levels. The average blood sugar level for a normal adult should be stable within the standard range; levels significantly lower than this range can lead to hypoglycemia.

However, there is another situation where human intervention causes the average blood sugar level to rise, and then returns to normal, which can also lead to hypoglycemia.

"Has he been taking any medication lately? Caffeine?" Schiller asked, frowning.

“I don’t know about that,” Lucifer said, frowning. “Anyway, he wasn’t feeling well before he came. I don’t know the specific medical terms, but he looked very tired.”

Schiller understood. Although he didn't know exactly what drug Night Owl had used to cause his average blood sugar level to rise, and then to drop in blood sugar due to low glucose intake, he did know why Night Owl had been so tired lately.

Don't forget, he and the Batman Who Laughs caused trouble in the Broken Batman universe, greatly offending Arkham Batman. The Batman Who Laughs has been punished, and the Dark Batman is being hunted by Batman. Does that mean Night Owl will get away with it? How could Arkham Batman possibly let him off the hook?

The Arkham Batman and the main universe Batman arrived late, but not necessarily entirely because they had to clean up the mess in those two universes. The Arkham Batman is considered one of the more petty Batmen; otherwise, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths to collect so many trophies in one night just to deal with the Riddler. He's a ruthless character who doesn't let revenge linger, so it would be strange if he let one of the culprits, Nite Owl, go unpunished.

While Night Owl is no weakling, Arkham Batman is far superior. Even if he can't go all out before Night Owl reveals his true nature, a mere slight movement from him will be enough to keep Night Owl busy. Not to mention, the main universe Batman is on Arkham Batman's side. These two formidable figures alone are enough to give Night Owl a run for his money.

Schiller guessed that the two of them must have gone to investigate the Owl's origin universe. Hiding the universe isn't so easy. The Owl must have been chugging caffeine to stay awake these past few days.

Caffeine has a significant effect on raising blood sugar levels. Long-term use may raise average blood sugar levels, which may explain the recent increase in Owl's average blood sugar levels.

Then, in order to traverse the universe, Lucifer made them fast. Night Owl probably thought he might have something wrong with eating, so he listened to Lucifer and fasted for a few days.

While the other Batmen also fasted and didn't eat the magic school's dinner, their average blood sugar levels remained normal. But Nite Owl's average blood sugar level was elevated; after such a long period without food, a sudden drop in blood sugar would inevitably lead to hypoglycemia.

Schiller was both amused and exasperated upon learning the reason. Who would have thought that the evil villain in Batman's company would collapse from low blood sugar before the plan even began?

Of course, Schiller wasn't without suspicion that this guy was deliberately bluffing to get close to him. But the instrument readings couldn't be faked; Night Owl had even fainted from low blood sugar. Even if he wanted to get close, he wouldn't take such a big risk. Knowing he was on the main universe Batman's side, what difference was there between this and a lamb entering a tiger's den?

Having clarified the underlying logic, Schiller no longer believes that Night Owl's incompetence led to the current situation. The main reason is that the combined power of the main universe's Batman and Arkham Batman is simply too great, putting immense pressure on Night Owl. This is entirely a forced mistake.

But since they were already there, Schiller couldn't just leave them untreated. Although he was a psychiatrist, he still knew how to administer an IV drip.

Don't ask why they don't use magic. These Batmen still haven't figured it out; they see magic as a monster. Didn't you see they're even afraid to eat dinner?

If Night Owl knew that he had used magical energy to heal him, he might be physically cured, but he would suffer a psychological blow.

After getting his medication prescribed, injections administered, and IV drips set up, Schiller didn't stay in the ward but went back to his office. However, he had barely sat down when he heard someone ring the call bell in the ward, so he had no choice but to go back.

Night Owl recovered quite quickly; he woke up as soon as the glucose was administered. Schiller walked in and saw Night Owl's utterly despondent expression.

“Don’t worry, this is just ordinary glucose, with no magical ingredients,” Schiller said. “You just have low blood sugar, not from magical radiation or someone ambushing you.”

Night Owl didn't seem relieved at all. He stared intently at Schiller's face, as if trying to find a trace of a lie. But Schiller's expression was calm, and there was indeed nothing wrong.

"Alright, you can be discharged after this IV drip is finished. Try to drink less coffee in the future," Schiller tentatively reminded him. Sure enough, Night Owl's expression changed when coffee was mentioned.

“I only need a pick-me-up occasionally,” Night Owl cleared his throat and said. “I’ve been a bit too busy lately, so I took some caffeine tablets.”

Schiller realized that Night Owl was also testing him to see if he knew someone was after him. Schiller, not wanting to get involved in Batman's personal vendettas, simply said, "You know I'm a psychiatrist. I can't give you any health advice. If you really want to hear it, all I can say is, everyone dies eventually, and natural death and being killed by someone else are the same. Take it easy."

The owl looked even more despondent.

"Wait a minute," Night Owl called to Schiller, "Is the school hospital open to just anyone?"

“Of course not, healthy people can’t come in,” Schiller said. “To be precise, they have to be brought in by a professor; they can’t walk in on their own.”

Just as Night Owl breathed a sigh of relief, he heard Hippo Goddess's voice outside the ward door: "Oh my god! Doctor! Come quick, there's another one here with indigestion from overeating..."

The hippo goddess's plump body squeezed in through the doorway, and as she turned to the side, Bruce's smiling face on the stretcher was revealed.

Night Owl's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, was finally dead.

"Don't come any closer!" Night Owl shouted. "Doctor, tell him to go over there, don't let him lie down next to me!"

"Do you own this hospital? And you're starting to boss me around?" Schiller sneered. "All patients are admitted according to their bed numbers. If you're not satisfied, you can leave."

Night Owl certainly wanted to be discharged, but his hypoglycemia symptoms had not fully recovered. He was still weak in his limbs and sweating profusely, so he couldn't leave and could only watch helplessly as Bruce lay down next to him.

Schiller gave Bruce a quick check-up, confirmed that he did have some indigestion, prescribed him some digestive enzyme tablets, and then had him lie down.

"What are you doing?!" Night Owl was in a state of constant agitation, staring warily at Bruce. Bruce, however, leisurely rolled over on the bed, turning to face Night Owl, propping his head up with his hand, and winked at him, saying, "I knew you wouldn't make it through tonight. Who told you not to eat?"

"You just came here to laugh at me?"

"Of course not, I came here specifically to protect you. Do you think those two will stay in the dorm tonight after they heard you were hospitalized for low blood sugar?"

Night Owl's expression visibly cracked, but he still tried to remain calm and said, "This is a magic school. Do you think the professors and principal wouldn't notice someone running around at night?"

“Whether you notice it or not and whether you can manage it are two different things, and whether you can control it is another matter entirely,” Bruce said. “Those two were able to chase you so hard, surely they can fool the professor and the principal?”

“That’s not necessarily true,” Night Owl said, turning his head away. “The professor and the principal aren’t ordinary people; they know magic. Most Batmen don’t have the ability to fight magic, especially such powerful magic.”

"What if they also faked illness and went to the school clinic like me?"

"They're not as shameless as you!" Night Owl's tone still carried a hint of anger. "What exactly are you here for?"

"You know I have connections, right? I'll ask one of them to pull some strings and let me out of the school for a bit."

The owl suddenly stopped moving. He rolled his eyes slightly and said, "You really can get out?"

"It's hard to say, it depends on whether this acquaintance will give me face," Bruce shrugged. "I'm not entirely confident I can persuade him either. But I feel that if I stay here any longer, I'll inevitably end up fighting with those people sooner or later. He probably doesn't want the school to be destroyed, right?"

“That’s a good reason,” said Night Owl. “They’d rather attack me than you. Separating us for now is the wise choice.”

"It's not like you could fight back when they beat you up," Bruce sneered. "If it were a one-sided beating, there wouldn't be much of a commotion, so there would be no need to separate you. You couldn't beat them to begin with, and looking at your pathetic state now, you're in even worse shape."

Night Owl's chest heaved with anger, but he quickly suppressed his rage and said, "If we're talking about pure brute force, I certainly can't beat them. But don't forget, this is a magic academy. Who can guarantee that their magical talent is superior to mine?"

"Hard to say," Bruce said, pursing his lips.

He quickly added, "Look, there are so many new students today. This shows that the universe doesn't have high requirements for magical talent. Otherwise, where would so many geniuses come from? I think hard work is probably more important."

The owl narrowed its eyes.

"To be honest, I pretended to be sick to get in, just so I could wander around the school and maybe even go to the library to see if there are any study materials. If I can get ahead of others at the beginning, it will be hard for them to catch up."

"You want me to come with you?"

"You don't have to go. Anyway, if those two find you here in the middle of the night and beat you up, I won't lose anything."

Night Owl nimbly climbed out of bed.

"Now! Right now! Let's go!"

Just another day!
