Chapter 3832 The Nameless Bat (Part Two)
The day before his departure for the Batman world of Arkham, Schiller hosted Lucifer in his office at the sanatorium. He placed a cup of coffee in front of Lucifer. Lucifer merely rubbed the inside of the cup with his fingers, his expression somewhat resigned.
"Director Chris is dragging you into discussing the Fallen Angels War again?" Schiller found his expression somewhat amusing. He said, "If you knew what he had to say to me, you'd realize your ordeal is nothing."
"What did he say?"
"He said he wanted me to go out and discuss all my personality traits with him one by one, so that he could find the most suitable one when performing."
Lucifer spat out a mouthful of coffee, which did indeed restore some of his energy. He sighed and said, "The people of your universe are insane. I just want to go home now."
“Don’t rush, there’s something else I’d like to ask you for help with,” Schiller said. “Do you have a moon goddess where you are?”
"A moon goddess? You mean the one from mythology? That probably doesn't exist, but Heaven has angels specifically in charge of celestial movements. Why are you asking this?"
“I want the status of the moon goddess,” Schiller said. “Simply put, I want the ability to control moonlight on your side.”
Lucifer didn't seem embarrassed; he simply asked, "Why do you suddenly want to be the moon goddess?"
"Batman came to me, hoping I could go and oversee his operations. But being an ordinary person doesn't carry much weight. He wants me to join the Justice League as a superhero to make his next move easier. I think Moon Knight would be a good fit, what do you think?"
"What kind of power do you specifically want?" Lucifer asked. "If it's about controlling the moon, that would be very difficult. As you know, Earth is the center of the universe, and the rules governing the operation of any celestial body related to Earth are very important and cannot be easily changed."
"So I'm not trying to control the celestial body, the moon; I just need the power of moonlight. Of course, this might inevitably cause some changes to the shape of the celestial body, the moon. But I promise I won't damage the moon."
"Alright. You're planning to give this power to Kong Su?"
"Why give it to Consus?" Schiller asked, as if he could read Schiller's mind. "Although Consus is needed as an intermediary in this universe, why go through a middleman if you can give me the power directly?"
“You might not be suited to being a superhuman,” Lucifer said. “Manipulating energy isn’t that simple. If possible, it’s best to have someone else do it for you.”
Schiller seemed to have picked up on something. He stared intently at Lucifer and said, "Don't tell me I also have a setting where I'll be in big trouble if I come into contact with superpowers or magic."
“No, not at all,” Lucifer shook his head. “When your mental state is too poor, you have tremendous muscle strength. What happens when your mental state is too good?”
"What do you mean?"
"Directly injecting energy into your body could cause you to become overly excited and lose control. You probably don't want that to happen, do you?"
"But I also gained a lot of magical energy before."
“That wasn’t actually obtained by you, but by the Gray Fog,” Lucifer explained. “Whether you like it or not, the anchor between us has never truly been broken. This will have many effects on you. Most of them aren’t good for the life you want.”
"No wonder you're so good-tempered in front of me."
“I’ve always had a good temper,” Lucifer said. “Only the weak fly into a rage. Besides, I don’t see any reason for me to be angry with you.”
"Really? Even if you still returned to heaven because of me?"
“That’s different,” Lucifer laughed. “You may have sent me back to Heaven, but you also sent Bruce there. That wretched place is finally not as boring as it has been for tens of thousands of years. It’s chaotic every day now, quite interesting.”
“Alright. How about we give it to Gray Mist?” Schiller asked.
“Sure. But are you sure you only want the power of moonlight? Perhaps you could choose something more intimidating. You could also ask Nyarlathotep…”
“I’m joining the Justice League,” Schiller said somewhat helplessly, “not to invade the multiverse.”
“You better not be.” Lucifer rolled his eyes.
In Gotham, at the Arkham Knights' base, he frowned, staring at the images on the monitor screen, looking utterly perplexed.
"So you mean I was just talking to myself all by myself? There was no one else there the whole time?"
“Yes, Jason. I hate to say this, but if a can of beer is enough to make you hallucinate, you shouldn’t drink anymore.” Barbara’s slightly worried voice came through the earpiece.
"I didn't drink too much!"
"That's what drunkards say."
Arkham Knight clenched his fist, grabbed a giant bat figurine from the side, punched it twice, and said, "Did Batman call you?"
"No. He's probably busy with diplomatic affairs in the Amazon lately. You know, that's Wonder Woman's homeland. He missed his routine visit to the Amazon because of his trip to East Asian countries, and Her Highness was already a little unhappy about that. This time, the diplomatic level of 12 countries has been raised, but the Amazon is not included. Wonder Woman will definitely be very angry. He has a lot of trouble to deal with."
"A small country that made its fortune through tourism dares to challenge the Federation?" Knight Arkham asked, somewhat surprised. "Not everyone on Paradise Island is a demigod, is they? What kind of diplomatic rank do they want? The kind where they exchange wedding rings?"
“Jason,” Barbara said, her voice still tinged with reproach, “you absolutely mustn’t get caught by the reporters. If you give interviews like this, the president’s work over the past six months will have been for nothing.”
“I’m not stupid, why would I say these things to reporters?” Arkham Knight raised an eyebrow and said, “Seriously, what right does Wonder Woman have to criticize the president’s foreign policy?”
"She didn't accuse anyone; she was just actively advocating for it. You know she has a high international reputation. Amazon has also consistently stood with the United States. They've worked hard all these years, even if they haven't achieved great things. If our diplomatic standing is shaken, international public opinion won't be on our side."
The Knight of Arkham sighed slightly and said, "I don't believe Batman would actually miss a routine visit because of a trip to another country. Besides, it's just a verbal diplomatic rank promotion, isn't it? It's not like he'll miss out on anything. Why make things difficult for Amazon?"
“I don’t know,” Barbara said.
The Knight of Arkham suddenly had a thought. He said, "Do you think it might be related to what he's about to do?"
"What he's going to do? You mean something that could escalate the internal conflicts within the Justice League? Is he deliberately suppressing Amazon to gain Wonder Woman's support?"
“I guess that’s it,” Arkham Knight said. “Before, he wasn’t president, so he always got the short end of the stick in the Justice League. Sometimes Superman and Wonder Woman teamed up against him, and there was nothing he could do. But now it’s different. He’s in charge.”
The Knight of Arkham's voice lowered, his tone becoming somewhat complex. He said, "Just tweak the agricultural policies of the Midwest, and Superman applauds him. He gives the Amazon the cold shoulder diplomatically, and Wonder Woman has to fawn over him. That's probably the joy of being president."
“I don’t think Wonder Woman will back down over this,” Barbara said, clearly holding a different view. “When it comes to bottom lines, Wonder Woman won’t change her mind because of Amazon. But if it’s not a bottom line issue, why go through all this trouble?”
The Knight of Arkham clearly had no idea what was going on. He was quite knowledgeable about weapons and combat, but when it came to political struggles, he was completely clueless.
Since Batman Arkham took office, he has failed to understand almost all of the policies. However, he can keenly sense that the political situation in the court has undergone several dramatic changes, and the Federation is now under the rule of a new emperor.
He sat down at the table and pondered, ultimately deciding to address the immediate problem first. He then asked Barbara, "Are there any other places in the city experiencing unusual energy fluctuations?"
"Not yet, your place is his last stop—if he really exists."
"I told you I wasn't drunk, that wasn't my hallucination!"
"Then how do you explain that the surveillance system on your mask didn't capture anything? And the bullets were all still in your gun, they didn't even fall to the ground. And..."
Arkham Knight abruptly ended the call. Just as he was packing his things, preparing to go out for another stroll, he suddenly received a call from Batman.
"Come to Wayne Tower," Arkham Batman said succinctly.
Arkham Knight, having collected his gear, headed to Wayne Tower. As soon as he entered, he saw a familiar figure standing by the window—not Batman, but Moon Knight, whom he had just met.
Arkham Knight immediately gripped his gun. But soon he heard Batman say, "What are you standing there for? Let me introduce you, this is Moon Knight, the newest member of the Justice League."
“Why did you bring him here?” Arkham Knight asked. “I mean, he’s a new member of the Justice League, shouldn’t he be with the Justice League?”
"Yes. So I invited the Justice League to Gotham to offer some valuable suggestions for the construction of the new base. What do you think?"
"You're insane, Batman!" Arkham Knight's tone held a hint of anger. "Didn't you consider how much trouble those dangerous elements would cause here? Or were you doing this on purpose?"
“They’re not dangerous and they won’t cause any trouble here,” Batman Arkham said. “I’m asking you and the rest of the Bat-Family, along with Gordon, Moon Knight, and the rest of Gotham, to keep an eye on them.”
Arkham Batman's tone was so cold that even Arkham Knight was startled. He opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a word for a long time, finally managing to squeeze out, "What...what are you going to do to them?"
"Now you're worried about them?" Arkham Batman sneered, walked behind his desk and sat down, saying, "I have some very important things to do. But the Justice League can't know about this. The consequences could provoke the entire Justice League to oppose it. To avoid trouble, I have to strike first."
The Arkham Knight remained silent. He could sense that Batman had changed since becoming president. In the past, he would never have resorted to such brutal methods. He wouldn't have done anything that might provoke the Justice League's collective opposition before convincing them.
But even Arkham Knight couldn't help but wonder what could possibly cause the Justice League to collectively oppose something. Could Batman be planning World War III?
The Arkham Knight shook his head, banishing those absurd thoughts. He took a deep breath and said, "I'll listen to you. What do you suggest?"
