Chapter 3982 MU: The Superbody Incident (Sixty-Two)
“We’re just here to buy some information,” Schiller explained. “We’re both ordinary people with no superpowers. Otherwise, your energy alarms would have gone off already, wouldn’t they?”
"Come on, humans! You don't usually stop the alarm from going off because your abilities exceed its limits. You can't fool me, so get out of here! Metal Market doesn't welcome you!"
“Then I suddenly remembered—I’m not an ordinary person, I’m a mutant, and this is a sorcerer. Can we go in?”
The four horned horses took another step back in unison. It was only because the room wasn't large that they were already in the Andromeda Galaxy.
“Listen, this is a rare, orderly market where everyone can buy what they want without fear of being murdered or robbed. But if a large-scale attack occurs, our reputation will be completely ruined. So you…”
“We promise not to cause any trouble. I know humans aren’t very trustworthy in this regard, but it seems you have no other choice but to trust our guarantee. After all, if we wanted to force our way in, you couldn’t stop us.”
The lead wildebeest sighed and said, "Alright. By the way, what's your relationship with Magneto?"
"It doesn't matter. Not all mutants are under his command. Of course, we have nothing to do with the Sorcerer Supreme either, so you don't need to worry about him attacking."
The wildebeests seemed relieved, but it was really just a helpless sigh of relief. Schiller and Constantine quickly left the hut and swaggered towards the market entrance.
Before they even reached the market entrance, Constantine pulled a rhombus-shaped gem from his trench coat, waved it at Schiller, and said, "The energy here is quite peculiar. It doesn't have such strong attributes; instead, it's relatively peaceful and quiet, making it easier to use. If all energies were like this, it would be a mage's paradise."
Schiller frowned and looked at him, asking, "Where did you steal it from?"
"Just now. I took it from the cabinet when those wildebeest weren't looking. Being small has its advantages, right?"
“Who was it that just said ‘I’ll handcuff anyone with even a hint of criminal intent’?” Schiller said, raising an eyebrow.
“That’s just hypothetical,” Constantine said, spreading his hands. “Besides, if you insist on doing it that way, I can keep an extra pair of handcuffs as a souvenir, right?”
Schiller ignored him. They walked together through the market gate and soon came across a bustling alien market: flying creatures and aquatic creatures were all gathered together. Thousands of meters above the planet, the space was filled with spacecraft of all sizes. Most of the spacecraft had been converted into stalls, displaying a dazzling array of goods.
Constantine started shouting. He didn't miss anything that showed signs of energy fluctuation; he'd go over and take a look at anything, even if he didn't intend to buy, he'd still haggle wildly. Sometimes, while he was haggling, the item would be in his hands, and many shopkeepers wouldn't even realize it before Constantine had disappeared into the crowd.
“If Batman knew he’d hired a thief like this, he’d be amazed at his brilliant decision,” Schiller said.
“Sigh, we’re both thieves, but Bruce treats me way worse than that cat.” Constantine shook his head again and said, “If he ever sees how good I am to him, I won’t steal his antique vases when I go to Wayne Manor.”
"Alfred didn't hit you with a broom?"
“What a joke, I can run incredibly fast,” Constantine said, raising the gem high. “That old butler was certainly skilled, but he wasn’t even close to being one of the people chasing me. After all, I only took a few antique vases; I didn’t take his heart, liver, spleen, lungs, or kidneys.”
He was intently admiring the gems when he suddenly bumped into someone on his left. He turned around and saw what appeared to be a tall, blue-skinned woman, a rare bipedal creature in the market's crowd. It was just a bump; she didn't even glance at him before walking past.
"Did you see that guy just now?" Constantine turned to look at Schiller, but found that Schiller was gone. He stood in front of the stall and looked back, but saw nothing. So he rummaged in his pocket for a while, pulled out a small compass, and followed the direction of the pointer.
Schiller had already spotted the woman. Bipedal creatures were too conspicuous here; he had seen the group from a distance. While Constantine was still speaking, he had already hidden behind a nearby vendor's cart.
Walking past him were a blue-skinned woman, a tall man wearing a helmet, and a seemingly ordinary young man from afar.
“Magneto and Professor X?” Schiller frowned. “What are these two doing here? And more importantly, their ages don’t match up.”
Magneto, wearing a helmet, had a full head of silver hair, while Professor X was quite young. Mystique didn't age, so her exact age was unknown. Schiller realized almost immediately: this Magneto must be from another universe.
"But how did they end up in Centaurus Market? Could it be that Magneto is trying to drag young Charles back to their old flame? But their old flame doesn't seem to be all that harmonious. So what's going on here?"
Schiller stared at them for a while, but didn't dare get too close. Although Professor X rarely activated full-map scanning, Magneto's senses were also very sharp, and getting too close would make him too easy to be discovered.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Constantine's voice suddenly came from behind.
“There are a few from Earth,” Schiller said. “Have you heard of Magneto and Professor X?”
Constantine immediately gasped, then said with a forced smile, "I suddenly remembered that the plumbing at home hasn't been fixed yet, I have to go back..."
Before he could take two steps, Schiller pointed a gun at him again. Schiller gave him a forced smile and said, "Magneto and Professor X might not kill you, but I might not."
Constantine wore a bitter expression. He knew it would turn out this way; Batman knew exactly how to hit his sore spots.
Actually, Constantine wasn't really afraid of flashy enemies; even Magneto and Professor X, he was confident he could escape unscathed. What he feared was someone like Schiller—a straightforward one; a bullet to the head was certain death, and there was no devil in this universe who could pry a bullet out of someone's head just to steal their soul.
“Okay, so what are you planning to do?” Constantine asked. “Don’t forget our main mission here. If we fail, Batman might banish me to the edge of the universe.”
“That’s not contradictory.” Schiller glanced over there and then said, “Do you have any skills like puppets or clones? The kind that can’t be read from brainwaves and doesn’t exist in a magnetic field would be best.”
Constantine, cigarette dangling from his lips, knelt down, pulled a small paper figure from his pocket, placed it on the ground, and flicked his lighter. With a "whoosh," a flame appeared out of thin air. A person who looked exactly like him suddenly appeared in the open space and immediately came to life.
The two looked exactly alike, and their expressions were indistinguishable; it was impossible to tell which one was alive. The person who had been conjured quickly joined the crowd, while Constantine and Schiller followed behind him.
“The energy here is really good, unlike the demons back home who always have to mix poison into the energy, making you want to vomit your stomach out,” Constantine remarked. “I haven’t used such pure and peaceful power in many years.”
"You've never been here before?"
“I have been here, but I don’t usually solve problems with magic,” Constantine said, shaking his head. “After all, dealing with the devil is never a good thing, no matter which universe you’re in.”
Schiller scoffed; he didn't believe a word Constantine said. Borrowing money here meant he could simply run away to some other world where no demon could find him—no wonder Constantine lent it. He just wondered which universe's demon had gotten into trouble.
Constantine's clone quickly caught up with Magneto's trio. Because it was well concealed, it could get very close and soon overheard their conversation.
"...As you can see, in the previous battle with the three great empires, we greatly weakened their strength. We can hardly see any of their people in the universe, and we have relaxed our control over no-man's-land like Alpha Centauri. Compared to your universe, our universe has fewer constraints and is much more spacious."
“But it’s still quite lively here,” Magneto said. “I’ve been to Centaurus a few times before, but it was too chaotic, so I never stayed here for long.”
"My God!" Constantine exclaimed again after hearing this. "Is this the tone Magneto should be using? Why is the guy I've met so incredibly aggressive? What's their relationship?"
Schiller narrowed his eyes and looked at Constantine—this guy had indeed been to this world before, and might even have encountered Magneto. Could he have even faced off against Magneto head-on?
As Schiller was thinking about these things, he spotted Mystique standing guard at the door in the distance. Although he couldn't see her exact expression because she was too far away, her body language revealed that Mystique was utterly speechless.
Magneto and Charles chatted for fifteen minutes in a shop of less than ten square meters. Apart from the first two sentences which were somewhat serious, the rest was basically just whatever came to mind, leaving Constantine completely bewildered.
"So, you're staring at them just to hear them recount the details of how bullets flew on the beach 40 years ago?"
Schiller sighed and said, "Forget it, I think they're just out shopping. Let's ignore them and get back to business."
They were about to leave when two people came out of the shop, and the clone Constantine had sent out was very close to the shop entrance.
Schiller suddenly felt a little nervous, because being so close, there was still a possibility of being discovered. Then he saw Constantine, seemingly stunned by something, just standing there.
"Constantine? Constantine???" Schiller called him twice, and when he didn't respond, he gave him a push.
“Oh, shit!” Constantine suddenly cursed, as if waking from a dream. “How come no one ever told me that young Professor X was so fucking hot?! My God, I thought Bruce was the hottest blue-eyed guy! I never expected… What were they talking about just now? Bullet angles? Is he a military enthusiast? Well, so am I! We’ll have a lot in common! And I have my own secret hair care formula! I’m one of those rare British people who isn’t balding at all! Oh, right, he’s British too, isn’t he? Where is he from? West London? Definitely. He has a jazzy face! And I happen to know a bit about musicals. That Magneto? Ha, an ignorant German, all he does is talk about boring physics and science, utterly tedious! I’m different…”
Schiller truly used all his willpower to resist the urge to pull the trigger. He took a deep breath and said, "Stop looking, it's not yours anyway. Get to work!"
