Chapter 4044 MU Superbody Major Event (124)
Chapter 4044 MU: The Superbody Incident (124)
Schiller didn't even flinch. It was simply that Constantine from the main universe was performing as expected. Besides, if this guy had managed to get close to the black market boss by selling his body, it would actually be more beneficial to their survival. After all, even superheroes from Earth have to consider their image and can't interfere with other people's normal business dealings. With the black market boss's help, at least they'd have a reliable hiding place.
However, Schiller didn't rush over. He first ate the barely edible porridge that the bartender had prepared with Constantine at the bar, and then, under the cover of night, he took Constantine to the black market next door.
He had been here before and remembered that there was a place that sold weapons, which was only open at night because it sold contraband weapons, mostly good items left behind on certain battlefields by the two major mechanical empires.
Both the Kree and Skrull Empires have very strict regulations regarding the recovery of weapons and equipment, and generally speaking, equipment is not likely to be lost. However, the universe is so vast that anything can happen, and some abandoned weapons end up on the black market.
A while ago, Earth in the central universe fought a battle with the three great empires. Although the nine great nations were completely wiped out in that wave, there was also a previous battle near the capital planet of the Shi'ar Empire. Although Jarvis blocked news from the internet, Schiller had worked for the Time Management Bureau and saw the general course of the war through the timeline. He knew that the three great empires should have obtained a lot of good equipment in that battle, which should be circulating on the black market by now.
Sure enough, when the two entered the weapons market, they saw many novel items. However, Schiller first found a shop and exchanged the universal currency Thanos had given him for gold. Apparently, due to the recent war, the value of gold had increased, but fortunately, Schiller had brought some with him, enough to buy the two of them a new set of equipment.
Schiller first recharged his standard-issue pistol, then bought a Skrull Empire lightsaber, similar in appearance to those in Star Wars, but slightly shorter, more like a longer dagger. Next, he bought a new shield, seemingly Kree technology, but all traces of it had been thoroughly cleaned.
Constantine also chose a laser gun. Although his flaming Gatling gun had decent firepower, it wasn't very suitable for space combat. And since he was out of medication, he basically didn't have the strength to enchant his bullets, so the laser gun was quicker and more convenient.
This is one of the reasons Schiller chose him as a teammate. Although a mage has a high ceiling, he's useless once he runs out of energy. While the firepower of a gun is limited, it at least maintains a minimum standard; even if he can't cast spells, he still has some offensive capability.
Constantine also bought a crossbow, supposedly crafted by the dwarves of the Nine Kingdoms, but it was likely a counterfeit. Even though it was a fake, the quality was decent, and it even had an automatic bolt retrieval function. This meant he only needed to enchant one bolt for repeated use, making it more economical than bullets.
He also replaced the shields and life support systems because once these things have suffered a fatal blow, their quality becomes unreliable, so it's safer to replace them.
After visiting the weapons market with Schiller, Schiller then went with Constantine to the magic market. There are quite a few magical creatures in the universe, so the market was incredibly diverse.
Although it's called a magical materials market, Schiller thinks it looks more like a cooking spice market. All sorts of ingredients are piled up in small baskets, filling an entire counter; every vendor has this setup, making it look just like a farmers' market from a distance.
Constantine had clearly been here before; he expertly picked through various materials and powders, and even some live creatures in jars, before stuffing them all into his box.
Schiller stood in front of a stall and picked up a glass jar containing slug-like creatures. He casually asked, "What's this for?"
After taking a look, Constantine said, "All slimy creatures are basically raw materials for ointments, to provide the stickiness for easy application."
Why not use chemical raw materials?
“It has no magical affinity.” Constantine said, shoveling something that looked like a mung bean. “All the materials you see here can absorb and retain magical energy very well, while chemically synthesized preparations do not have any special symbolism in the magical realm, so they are difficult to use.”
Schiller nodded, put down the jar, and picked up another jar that looked like chili peppers. Just as he was about to take a closer look, he caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye.
Schiller turned his head nonchalantly, feigning interest in a small ornament on the shelf next to him. Through the gap in the shelf, his gaze locked onto the other man, then he gently nudged Constantine beside him with his elbow.
Constantine didn't stop what he was doing, but turned to look in the direction Schiller was looking. The next second, he narrowed his eyes, because not far from them, a black-robed figure was using a cup to collect some strange, faintly glowing green liquid, and it looked very much like Doctor Strange from the main universe.
"What is that thing for?" Schiller asked in a low voice.
“The sap of a sacred tree worshipped by a certain tribe has the properties of vitality and healing, and is usually used to make potions for healing injuries.” Constantine paused for a moment before saying, “If he doesn’t come to buy the slime worms you saw earlier, it means he has internal injuries; if he does buy them, it should be external injuries that need to be treated with ointment.”
“He’s coming,” Schiller said, pulling Constantine aside. Luckily, the place was very crowded, and the two of them didn’t attract attention. They then went to another stall and pretended to browse.
“He must be injured, and seriously injured,” Constantine continued. “Otherwise, he wouldn’t have needed to come here at all; he could have gone back by detour. He might not even have the strength to fly or go through the portal.”
"Injured so badly?"
"It's not a serious injury for a mage; one healing spell should be enough to cure it, and two potions at most. The fact that he's come here to buy materials means he's probably run out of supplies."
"Who's chasing him?" Schiller muttered to himself. He figured Marvel wouldn't go to such lengths; even if they found him, they'd probably just knock him out and take him back. But it shouldn't be Batman's people either, because his mission was to find Doctor Strange. If Doctor Strange had been found, Batman should have notified him to return. Since he hadn't received a notification, it meant Batman was also clueless.
Constantine suddenly paused. Schiller noticed his movement, looked in his direction, and saw several uniformed men rushing into the market.
“The Interstellar Security Committee,” Constantine said in a low voice. “Your counterparts have arrived.”
“So they didn’t blockade this planet to find us.” Schiller shoveled through a basket of dried eyeballs and said, “He was probably injured by these agents.”
Schiller thought about it and agreed. After all, Doctor Strange had caused such a big commotion with the heist of the artifacts, and the victim, the Elder of the Universe, was a prominent figure in the universe. The Interstellar Security Committee had to investigate the case thoroughly, or they would lose face big time.
As for finding those two, even knowing they possess the two Infinity Stones, the Avengers probably wouldn't ask Thanos for help. It's not that they don't want to go, but rather, what would they say if they did?
"You, go and get rid of Schiller and the other man?"
Thanos stated that he has no plans to date Death anytime soon.
Therefore, it's better for the Avengers to secretly send people over. Such a high-profile operation could only mean they're here to capture Doctor Strange.
Thinking this, Schiller gave Constantine a wink. The two quickly made their way through a cluster of stalls to the group of uniformed agents. Schiller walked straight up to one of them and said, "Damn it, what are you doing?!"
The man paused for a moment when Schiller stopped him. Come on, they were police officers; the black market thugs would scare them like mice before a cat. Why would anyone willingly come to their death?
Before he could even draw his gun, Schiller flashed his identification. Upon seeing the identification and standard-issue pistol, the other side immediately realized there might have been a misunderstanding and quickly called over their captain.
"Lord Thanos sent me to secretly track Doctor Strange. He's in this market right now, and I was already very close. Isn't this search just alerting him?"
The other party was also a highly humanoid being, except that their skin was green. He immediately said somewhat awkwardly, "Um... we're just following orders. Your Excellency the Chief Executive has been involved in this case so early?"
"By the time you realize what's happening, everything will be cold," Schiller said irritably. "You've already blocked off the market?"
"Yes, all living beings are now prohibited from entering or leaving this planet. Since you're almost there, you must know his physical characteristics. How about we cooperate?"
Schiller waved his hand impatiently and said, "This guy is too cunning. If I'm not mistaken, he's already escaped from you once before, hasn't he? Pushing him too far won't do anyone any good."
"Okay, then what do you suggest we do?"
"The most important thing is to lower his guard. This is my companion, named Constantine. I'll have him disguise himself as a criminal, and you two will pretend to be there to arrest him. Make some noise in the market, and I'll follow Doctor Strange. If we manage to catch him, I'll definitely report you to Lord Thanos."
"That's great. You have no idea how troublesome this guy is. He took one hit from a naval cannon and still managed to injure five or six of us. To be honest, we didn't want to fight him head-on either. If it weren't for the orders from above, who would go and fight the Sorcerer Supreme!"
The two sides agreed on a plan. Constantine put on a mask to cover his face and ran to a small stall not far from where Doctor Strange was. He immediately started fighting the agents with the laser gun he had just bought. Lasers flew everywhere, and the stall owners screamed and ran away.
"Catch this damned fugitive!" the captain yelled. "This guy's a ruthless killer, we can't let him get away!!!"
Schiller calmly walked back to his original position. He saw that Doctor Strange, dressed in a black robe, had probably already intended to run away, but stopped what he was doing when he saw the agents chasing after the others.
It seems Doctor Strange in the main universe is also at his wit's end; he might even be struggling with teleportation. Otherwise, he would have teleported away immediately upon discovering the police approaching. The Interstellar Security Committee's blockade can't stop human teleportation portals, and the fact that he didn't is undoubtedly because it would come at a great cost.
