Chapter 4114 MU: The Superbody Incident (191)
Therefore, we can deduce that the more illogical, chaotic, and insane a dream is, the more likely the person within it is to wake up and realize they are dreaming. In that case, it would be easier to break through the illusion.
The idea is good, but it's difficult to put into practice. Because madness is a talent, not everyone can pull it off. In fact, you could say that a perfectly balanced madman is harder to find than an extremely law-abiding good person.
Society itself is orderly, and an orderly society is more likely to cultivate orderly people. To live a completely disorderly and chaotic life in an orderly society requires extreme self-awareness, abundant inspiration, and even an innate artistry in one's soul.
This description sounds like it was tailor-made for the Joker. But alas, the Joker is too evil; he could never risk his life like a superhero to fight enemies across the multiverse. He just wants to play games with Batman.
Although we have Jack Sparrow and Joker, those two are far from enough. Even if we brought over the slightly more lucid Pale Knight and Phoenix Joker, it still wouldn't be enough. Their combat abilities are too low; they simply can't handle an enemy of Darkseid's caliber. Even combined, they couldn't withstand Darkseid's punches, which are the size of sandbags.
However, the multiverse is also full of talented people, and even with such harsh conditions, they were able to find a team.
First and foremost is greed. His madness is perfectly balanced, almost entirely devoid of perversion or evil. While he sometimes enjoys creating a silent but significant disturbance and is adept at leaving others with no choice, within the Nightmare Dimension, these are insignificant matters. He is truly the perfect choice for missions.
Then there's Bruce. He's also considered a mentally ill person with a broad mind and the intelligence of Batman, but his thinking is even more flexible and unpredictable, making him very difficult to understand. This chaos and disorder makes him prone to having some absurd dreams.
Then there's Batman the Outer God, formerly known as Bruce Wayne. His power is a combination of Nyarlathotep's chaos and Barbatos's darkness, neither the complete blind folly of the Outer Gods nor the evil and nothingness of the Dark Power. He found a perfect balance, preventing himself from being corrupted by the Outer Gods or controlled by Barbatos, while still maintaining Batman's intelligence. Although he has quite a few tentacles, that's not a problem.
And then there's Constantine in Schiller's universe. While it seems he was captured by Nyarlathotep to write books, the very fact that he could compose the Outer God's canon proves he was in a state of lucid madness. Without madness, one couldn't have written those words filled with forbidden knowledge; and without lucidity, one couldn't have been alive and well after completing them.
This team was well-equipped, with strong combat skills and sharp intellect, capable of handling all sorts of bizarre situations. However, after only a few hours in the Nightmare Dimension, they retreated, clearly having failed.
Back in the command center, Greed shook his head and said, "While madness and chaos can bring us back to our senses quickly, they also give him the power to create monsters. For example, he created a bunch of morbid creatures in my dream, chasing me from the sky to the ground, and I was almost sliced into potato chips by them."
“Me too,” Bruce said, shaking his head. “That bastard threw me into my own thesis, and all the words I used to write are coming back to haunt me, they’ve plucked the feathers off my wings.”
The others described similar situations: the more chaotic the dream, the more likely it is to generate all sorts of crazy and powerful monsters. These monsters' appearances and attributes are completely illogical, making it impossible to devise any countermeasures. Just escaping their pursuit is difficult enough, let alone retaliating.
Now, everyone was truly bewildered. This nightmare power was incredibly troublesome: if you reasoned with it, it would create an extremely realistic dream that you couldn't wake up from; if you deliberately disrupted the order, it could use the chaotic dream to produce illogical monsters. Wasn't this a double whammy?
“I think we’re on the wrong track again,” the agent said. “We shouldn’t be thinking about entering the Nightmare Dimension and finding Darkseid; we should be thinking about how to solve the Nightmare Dimension.”
"what do you mean……"
"Entering the Nightmare Power is like lambs to the slaughter. It's only because the people we found are good fighters that we were able to escape in the chaos. If one or two of them had been swallowed up, it would have been even more troublesome. Since we can't break through from the inside, we might as well put pressure on the outside. Violent means won't solve the problem, but they can solve the problem itself."
"The problem now is that the power of nightmares is a fusion of two primal forces. The highest level we have here is also a fusion of two primal forces, at most equal to it. We don't have any power that is higher than it, so we can't suppress it. Otherwise, we wouldn't just sit idly by and watch the power of nightmares expand."
"But we have more than one powerful individual who has fused two powers, right? What if we let so many fused powers attack the Nightmare Dimension simultaneously? Would that be effective?"
The agent's words gave the main universe's Batman some inspiration: they didn't have a power superior to Nightmare Darkseid, but they had many powers on par with him. There was Hal, who had just completed his fusion; Batman the Evil God, who already possessed two powers; and many other single powers on his level: Manhattan Batman, Lucy, Scarlet Witch, and so on. With so many primal powers combined, surely they couldn't break through the Nightmare dimension?
“This matter requires careful consideration,” said the main universe Batman. “We only have one chance. If it fails, and the other side discovers our plans, they may choose to back down temporarily. Once he gets away, the multiverse will never have peace again.”
The others also looked somewhat grave. They knew very well that Darkseid Nightmare was now allowing the power of nightmares to expand in order to take revenge on the main universe's Batman, which also gave them the opportunity to deal with him.
But once he recovers from his hatred and realizes that his side is also difficult to deal with, deciding to make a strategic retreat, hide away to accumulate strength, and rise again another day, then there will always be a huge bomb buried deep in the universe, ready to explode at any time. Then their days will be filled with constant fear.
Considering that this guy isn't from this world, and might even return to the other side, then both worlds would be living in constant fear.
If he were even more despicable, and instead of launching a large-scale invasion, he simply used the power of nightmares to constantly harass those two great worlds, then neither of them would ever have a peaceful day.
“The frontal assault can’t stop,” the main universe Batman said. “We can’t let him realize that we’re going to break in from the outside. Instead, we need to go deep inside like before and make him think that we’re going to find him in the Nightmare Dimension. That way, we can lower his guard.”
“We don’t have enough frontline troops,” Nick said. “Although superheroes from other multiverses are arriving, they’re just easy targets in the Nightmare Dimension. If they get swallowed up by the Nightmare Dimension and strengthen Darkseid, it will be even harder to break through from the outside.”
Even Batman in the main universe knows they don't have enough manpower. No matter how many superheroes there are, they're not enough to be swallowed up by the Nightmare Dimension. Darkseid gaining their power is a minor issue; the real problem is that with so many people dying, they'll definitely have grievances, making the aftermath extremely difficult to manage.
Now they need a frontline force, and it has to be intelligent beings that can have nightmares, preferably humans, so as not to arouse Darkseid's suspicion.
As Batman in the main universe was pondering this, he saw Greed and Nick whispering to each other. Greed was clearly trying to persuade Nick, who seemed somewhat reluctant.
The main universe's Batman stood there calmly, knowing that greed was adept at leaving people with no other choice. Since he had gone to persuade Nick, Nick had no choice but to cooperate.
Sure enough, Nick came out soon after and said, "I have a group of men who should come in handy. Even if they don't achieve any results, they'll be enough to fool Darkseid."
The main universe's Batman looked at him.
"Previously, by chance, I discovered the principle behind the formation of 'ghosts,' which is actually a kind of abnormal brainwave. After a person dies, the brainwaves that have not completely dissipated can remain under the influence of certain special magnetic fields, forming something similar to a ghost. They can retain some of their memories and wisdom from their previous life, but sometimes they can become overly angry, and some can even be aggressive. This is the truth behind most paranormal events on Earth."
Everyone else felt a chill run down their spines, but the main universe's Batman immediately realized something and said, "You can mass-produce ghosts now?"
"Well, not really. I just thought, since they're all dead anyway, instead of letting them become ghosts that attack others, I might as well guide them a little and turn them into my employees. That way, I don't have to pay them salaries or take vacations..."
Greed nudged him hard with his elbow. Nick quickly cleared his throat and said, "So I did some small research in this area, and eventually actually found a suitable magnetic field. Some incomplete brainwaves, under the influence of this magnetic field, can produce suitable mutations, turning them into a kind of ghost that can be guided."
"And then work for you for free?"
"No, no, no, this thing hasn't passed the ethical review, so it can't work for me yet. Besides, although it can be manufactured, because it uses the brainwaves of death row inmates, these ghosts aren't very rational and can't do any delicate work. At most, they can scare people. I'm thinking, it would be good to use it to trick nightmare power."
The main universe Batman nodded and said, "From our previous explorations, we can see that Nightmare Darkseid's main focus is on the multiverse. He should be exploring this multiverse and hasn't taken the initiative to attack us. So if we release some ghosts, he might just think it's a new trick of ours, not that we've given up exploring. We should be able to fool him."
Greed nodded, having already received information from Eternity: Nightmare Darkseid was indeed roaming the multiverse.
After all, having ascended to the level of a multiverse being, it's impossible for him not to be curious about the multiverse. Moreover, he is very confident in his own strength. Although he wants to deal with the main universe's Batman, he will also take some time to explore the multiverse, perhaps hoping to gain even greater power within it.
Many abstract entities in the multiverse have already discovered this newcomer, but since Darkseid hasn't shown any aggressive behavior, they've left him alone. However, he'll likely soon encounter the local gods, and perhaps that will be his opportunity.
