Chapter 4380 Justice League: Assemble (Twenty-Eight)

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

There was a knock on the apartment door. The dark-haired woman, who was working at her desk, looked up in surprise. She glanced at her watch; it was outside of visiting hours, and the apartment security would never let an unauthorized visitor in. So who could it be?

She put down her pen, opened the door, and found a row of men in black standing outside. The leader flashed his badge at her and said, "Hello, Ms. Carol Ferris. There's a terrorist attack case that requires your cooperation in the investigation. Do you have a moment?"

The woman called Carol narrowed her eyes. She was about to say something when the men in black stormed into the house. She took a deep breath, realizing they meant no harm.

"What do you want with me?"

"I told you, there was a terrorist attack..."

Which one?

"The Capitol was moved from the Metropolitan Government back to the District of Columbia. The perpetrator was a terrorist who glowed green."

"You mean moving the Capitol Building back to its original location constitutes a terrorist attack?"

"Yes, without the consent of all members of parliament."

"What does this have to do with me?"

"Your boyfriend, Hal Jordan, is this mysterious terrorist. I need you to call him back now."

"Impossible. Get out of my house right now."

“It seems you haven’t grasped the situation, ma’am. This isn’t a discussion.” The other person walked over to Carol and said, “Don’t try to use the same tactics you use on the police against us. You should know that we don’t exist. You can’t sue anyone.”

Carol was trembling with anger. But as a pilot and astronaut, she was often the calmer the situation, the more urgent it was. Her mind began to race. As Hal Jordan's girlfriend, she knew his temper all too well.

Previously, during a test flight, HAL insisted on his own ideas, causing a fighter jet to crash, which cost him his job and put him under huge compensation. Most people would have given up hope, but HAL didn't succumb. Instead of using drugs or alcohol to numb himself, he actively campaigned to try and avoid compensation, or even return to his post. This proves he is an optimistic and resilient person.

His weaknesses were also obvious. If he hadn't been so impulsive and reckless, and had been able to follow orders, this accident would never have happened. Carol knew very well that Hal had a quick temper, and when his emotions flared, his initial outburst was extremely violent, easily knocking someone over. If you went against him at that moment, you would definitely have a huge argument.

The mysterious agent said that Hal gained superpowers and even moved the Capitol Building back to Washington. With greater power comes greater trouble. Especially knowing he's being threatened, he'll be absolutely furious and teach all those people a lesson.

Carol was naturally aware of the recent uproar over the revote. She could roughly guess why these people were so furious about labeling Hal a terrorist—it was simply because the relocation of the Capitol had ruined their plans.

"Since you're so heartless, don't blame me for being ruthless too," Carroll thought coldly to herself. "You dare to barge into my home so rudely and threaten me, and you're even convinced I can't retaliate, then I have to teach you a lesson."

She feigned a speechless expression and said, "Please, didn't you do any research before you came? I dumped him a long time ago. He's been fired by the airline and faces huge compensation. I don't want such an embarrassing boyfriend."

“You want me to call him? Fine, as long as you can tolerate it, I’ll argue with him for another half hour. Forget about attracting him here, after I’ve finished cursing this useless coward, he’ll probably be so angry that he’ll fly out of America.”

Carol feigned anger, sat down on the nearby sofa, crossed her arms, and glared at the agent. The agent, however, seemed unfazed. He walked to the opposite sofa, sat down, and looked at her, saying, "I just need you to call him over, any way you want, even if it makes him so angry he comes to you. Madam, you'd better hurry, or else..."

Before she could finish speaking, Carol pulled a stun gun from under the sofa, lunged at the agent, and pressed it against his chest. With a crack, the agent convulsed from the shock. In the instant the remaining agents reacted and drew their guns, she flipped over the back of the chair, dodging the first round of gunfire. Then, she swung a vase from the display shelf and smashed it down, taking advantage of the moment the agents dodged, she circled the shelf and quickly ran towards the back of the corridor.

She ran down the stairs through the corridor, then turned a corner and pressed the button on the bathroom door, revealing a hidden door. Carol rushed in, giving the pursuing agent a disdainful look before the door closed.

She's one of the West Coast's top pilots and astronauts. If it weren't for the family business she had to inherit, preventing her from becoming a more dangerous test pilot, she would be an outstanding one too. These agents are incredibly stupid; they actually thought she was the kind of pretty face who would just cry and scream when someone came knocking.

Carole walked in and soon arrived at the lobby of the safe house. Instead of picking up the phone immediately, she sat down at the computer and began searching for news related to the Capitol.

Soon, she saw the related reports and the original video. After zooming in and watching the video closely, she was 100% certain that the strange man emitting green light was indeed her boyfriend, Hal Jordan.

“What the hell…” she muttered, rubbing her forehead. Then she picked up her phone and called her friend, saying, “Hey, alligator snapping turtle, help me find someone. Hal Jordan…yes, my boyfriend. No, he didn’t cheat on me. But I need all his recent activity information, video footage would be best…I told you he didn’t cheat!”

After waiting in the safe house for a while, Carol quickly received the information from her friend via email. Carol sighed helplessly again. The alligator snapping turtle really was investigating infidelity, finding surveillance videos from all sorts of obscure shops and even marking the gender of the people who were with him.

As Carol scrolled through the videos, she found a very strange one. It showed three people approaching Hal in a dark alley, and Hal waved his hand, sending out a green light that knocked them all down.

She paused the video, zoomed in, and watched closely, discovering that the three people were actually airline employees. Carol understood: the HAL test flight accident was serious; not only did the plane crash, but it also caused the safety audit to fail. Almost all the crew members involved would be held responsible, leading to mass unemployment and even potential compensation claims. No wonder these people were causing him trouble.

Then she found a video with a green glow, showing Hal taking off at an extremely high speed. Carol estimated that it was almost at the initial velocity of a rocket launch.

Therefore, Carol could confirm that Hal's superpowers were extremely powerful, second only to Superman, a very famous superhero she had seen in the news. His green aura was even more variable, rendering ordinary people's firearms virtually harmless; on the contrary, he could easily cut through ordinary people.

“Very well.” Carol picked up her phone and started dialing. As soon as the call connected, she said in a slightly panicked voice, “Hal, could you… could you come over? I have something I want to talk to you about…”

Less than two minutes later, Hal landed in front of Carol's apartment window. He opened the window and rushed inside, just as the agents who couldn't open the safe house door rushed up.

Seeing their attire, Hal knew they meant trouble. His head buzzed, and he threw a punch, a green light sending everyone flying. In his haste, he didn't even notice the agent who had been electrocuted and was lying on the sofa, and rushed downstairs.

But after going downstairs, he didn't see Carol anywhere. Halton panicked. He rushed back upstairs, grabbed an agent by the collar, and demanded, "Where's Carol? Where's Carol Ferris?! Where is she?! Where did you take her?!"

The agent was thrown quite hard, groaning and unable to speak. Hal, enraged, slammed him to the ground, and he flew out the window with a "whoosh." Carol had only called him two minutes ago; they couldn't have gotten too far.

Hal began searching along the street. Meanwhile, Carol, inside the safe house, took a hidden elevator downstairs, circled around the back of the building, and rushed out, feigning panic. Hal spotted her and flew over, catching her in his arms.

“Oh my God!” Hal roared, “I thought you…”

“No, Hal, listen to me.” Carroll pressed his shoulder and said, “It’s the opposition. Because you moved the Capitol back to its original location, their proposal for a revote might not pass. This will cause them to lose the election, so they’re retaliating against you like crazy. They’ve labeled you a terrorist and might send in the army and police to hunt you down!”

Hal was completely stunned. He didn't immediately understand what Carol was talking about, because it was simply too absurd.

The federal government approached him and asked him to move the Capitol back to its original location. He felt that the Capitol should stay in Washington, and they promised to waive his compensation and let him return to his post, so he went to move it.

And now you're telling me that another group disagrees, so they want to classify his move of the Capitol as a terrorist attack, and that even though he's unemployed and facing huge compensation claims, they want to hunt him down?!

Hal was speechless for a moment. He felt like a clown in a circus, being completely fooled by these people, and he didn't know whether to hate their cunning or his own naivety.

He finally realized that there was a reason why the Capitol Building had remained in the Metropolitan Area for so long. So many superpowered people on Earth didn't bother to move it, yet he foolishly did; he was the biggest idiot on Earth!
