Chapter 4398 Project Far Star (Sixteen)

Steppenwolf felt the airflow coming from behind him and turned around impatiently, waving his hand, intending to send Hal flying. But the moment he made contact with Hal, a strange panic surged into his heart. He subconsciously turned back to look, and when he saw the yellow light emanating from Hal's eyes, countless fragments of hallucinations flashed before his eyes.

Darkseid was a cruel ruler who treated both enemies and subordinates harshly. Anyone who failed to meet his demands was severely punished, and he ruled with fear. This meant that those under his command were deeply afraid of him.

Steppenwolf isn't immune to fear energy; he simply possesses a strong will. However, Hal is a natural Lantern, maximizing the effectiveness of both green and yellow lanterns. Furthermore, Parallax wasn't targeting Steppenwolf initially, but Hal was specifically after him.

In the blink of an eye, Steppenwolf was enveloped in fear energy by Hal. Steppenwolf staggered in a daze, and Hal punched him in the face.

But Steppenwolf was no pushover. He took a deep breath, his eyes gleaming even brighter, grabbed Hal with his backhand, threw him to the ground with a slam, and then delivered a straight punch to Hal's chest.

The yellow energy didn't solve Hal's problem of insufficient close-quarters combat strength. Steppenwolf landed a punch, and Hal spat out another mouthful of blood. The yellow energy's body-repairing speed was nowhere near that of the green energy. But Hal had no way out; he took to the air again, attempting to control Steppenwolf with fear energy.

Steppenwolf was indeed disturbed, but he was a natural war machine. Even on instinct alone, he could detect Hal's flight path and then knock him down hard, slamming him to the ground.

Hal was getting anxious. The yellow light energy seemed very strong, and it seemed to be constantly replenished, but it mainly targeted the mind and wasn't as versatile as the green light energy. If this continued, they still wouldn't be able to defeat Steppenwolf.

Hal was truly at his wit's end. Since the green light energy couldn't be replenished and the yellow light energy wasn't effective enough, there was only one solution left—to convert the yellow light energy into green light energy.

But this was easier said than done; Hal had absolutely no clue. These two energies were clearly completely incompatible, let alone convertible. What could he do?

Hal's brain raced. He knew he couldn't do it on his own. When absorbing the yellow light energy, he had already discovered that it would repel the tiny bit of green light energy remaining in the ring. This proved that the two couldn't coexist in the ring; if one came, the other had to leave.

His body certainly wouldn't be up to par either, because for two energies to merge and transform, there would definitely be a violent conflict reaction, and his physique isn't tough enough; if the transformation were to occur inside his body, he would explode.

Then he needs to find an external medium that can absorb two types of energy at the same time, is hard enough to resist energy conflicts, and has a higher status than these two types of energy so that it cannot be affected by them.

Hal turned his head and saw Victor lying on the ground.

He swooped down and picked up Victor, then, before Steppenwolf could react, he channeled the yellow energy from his own body into Victor's.

Victor was still unconscious, partly because he had exhausted his strength earlier, and partly because his mind had been attacked by the power of fear. Now, the power of fear wasn't affecting his mind from the outside, but had penetrated directly into his body.

However, these two methods of invasion are quite different. Victor's mind is primarily determined by his physical body. The Mother Box fused into his body has no independent consciousness, so his mind is simply Victor's mind, with low defense, making him vulnerable to attacks from the power of fear.

However, his physical defenses are different. He is a fusion of the human body and the Mother Box, and the human body offers little resistance to the invading energy of fear. The Mother Box itself is a cosmic editor, a source of all power that doesn't require external intervention, yet it's also a black hole capable of containing all forces. Otherwise, it wouldn't be able to edit all the energy in the universe.

After Hal injected the yellow light's power, it was absorbed by the Mother Box, and Victor's body began to glow a faint yellow light. If he were awake at that moment, he might have been able to use the editing function to transform the yellow light energy into green light energy. Because he was unconscious, he couldn't do so.

Hal had no expectations of him at all, and poured all the yellow light energy in his body into Victor's body, then began to recite the green light oath:

"The daytime is bright and clear, the night is dark and boundless."

Demons and monsters have nowhere to hide.

Those who follow heretical sects and rebels fear my divine light.

"May the green light shine forever!"

Of course, this wouldn't summon the Lantern Ring or the Lantern Furnace, otherwise he wouldn't have gone to the trouble of using conversion to replenish his energy. However, during his training at Green Lantern Corps headquarters, the other Lanterns told him that oaths are one of the means of contacting teammates; when you recite an oath, nearby Lanterns will sense it.

He refused to believe that such a massive parallax monster could have arrived on Earth without the Green Lanterns, who were supposed to maintain cosmic security, being completely unaware. The parallax monster had been here for quite some time; the Green Lanterns should have arrived by now. As long as they could sense the oath, they should come to Earth to investigate.

To Hal's disappointment, the Green Lanterns didn't appear immediately. Steppenwolf, however, did.

The pursuing Steppenwolf was still affected by the yellow light's energy, and when he saw the yellow light also emanating from Victor, his eyes widened in utter astonishment. The Mother Box absolutely could not malfunction; he didn't want to be punished by Darkseid!

Fear further fueled his savage nature; he charged forward, knocking Hal away, slamming him to the ground with two punches in mid-air, and scratching him in the chest with a claw.

"Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!" Hal let out a terrifying scream, his heart almost being ripped out.

But Steppenwolf didn't stop; he had to kill this annoying fly completely. He grabbed Hal by the neck, tightening his grip, and Hal shuddered, his pupils dilating.

Hal's spine was snapped, and death came so suddenly that he didn't even have time to react. Just then, several green lights appeared on the horizon; the Green Lantern Corps had finally arrived.

Upon seeing the Parallax in the sky, everyone was on high alert. However, they first began searching the ground for their teammates who had recited the oath, and then witnessed Hal's death.

"No!!!" the lead Green Lantern shouted, flying straight towards them. The Green Lanterns following behind were not human; one of them, a large figure, rammed into Steppenwolf, knocking him aside.

They were completely confused, not knowing why the Green Lantern was dead or killed by another monster, nor what was going on with the people lying next to him.

The Green Lantern leader rushed forward to try and heal Hal, but it was too late. Green Lantern energy can heal wounds, but it cannot bring the dead back to life. Hal's death was too brief; they couldn't save him in time.

The leader let out a mournful howl and turned to glare fiercely at the Steppenwolf. He was about to rush over and attack the Steppenwolf when he noticed that Hal's corpse's arm was pointing in one direction, and it hadn't moved until it died.

He looked in that direction and saw Victor lying to the side. The leader recognized the fear energy emanating from Victor's body, so he dared not approach rashly.

However, during training, the leader already knew that although Hal's foundation was weak and his physical abilities were not as strong as the aliens, he was very clever and often came up with unexpected strategies, making him a newcomer with great potential.

His judgment before his death must have been reasonable. Besides, Victor didn't seem like a lackey of the Parallax Monster; the two sides were completely different. Even if it was for the purpose of saving a life, the leader still went forward to check on his condition.

The leader sensed that there was indeed fear energy in his body, and his first thought was to help him dispel the fear energy, since this thing was a scourge that could not only invade a person's mind but also potentially harm the body.

The best way to dispel the power of fear is for a person of strong will to use green light energy to resist yellow light energy. So the leader poured his own green light energy into it.

In a typical medium, such as the human body, the powers of the yellow and green lights simply cannot coexist; once the green light enters, the yellow light must be dispelled. However, the Mother Box is not a typical medium; within it, all powers can coexist.

The leader input the green light energy, but the yellow light energy didn't disappear. He realized it hadn't dissipated and thought he hadn't injected enough energy, so he inputted some more, but still nothing changed.

The leader gritted his teeth, intending to give up, but after glancing at Hal beside him, he decided to try again. This time, he activated it at maximum power, and a dense green light appeared on his hand. He placed his hand on Victor's chest and poured a large amount of green energy into it.

Victor's green energy surged, and suddenly, it reached a critical point of equilibrium with the yellow energy. In that instant, Victor abruptly opened his eyes, and his body erupted with light of two colors.

The green and yellow energy began to clash, and Victor let out a painful growl. But when he turned his head, he saw Hal's corpse.

Victor was stunned. Looking at Steppenwolf beside him, even though he had just been out of his mind, he could probably guess that Hal must have sacrificed himself to protect him.

Victor slammed his fist on the ground, his veins bulging. He didn't even care about the two conflicting energies within him, and scrambled to Hal's side.

"No...no...save him! Save him!!!" Victor shouted frantically.

However, Hal was indeed dead, and due to the two chaotic energies within him, Victor was unable to enter the previous modified mode. He could only hold Hal's corpse and roar in anger.

Wait, Victor, you have to calm down, he told himself. Only you can save Hal now, you have to think carefully about what to do.

The Mother Box is so powerful that it can do more than we imagine; it can even bring the dead back to life.

Victor took a few deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down. The yellow and green light energies within him didn't appear out of nowhere; these two energies must have a purpose. Hal was a Green Lantern, so the green light energy must be more effective for him.

So, Victor, relying on his own will, began to take sides, causing the green light energy to continuously devour the yellow light energy, and then converting the yellow light energy back into green light energy. It sounds incredible, but with the help of the Mother Box, nothing is impossible.

Having converted most of the yellow light energy, Victor still felt it wasn't enough. He turned to look directly at the Parallax Monster, reached out, and began to draw fear power from it.
