Chapter 4572 The Day of Brightest Light (Part 31)
Deathstroke was trying to connect the dots, but there were too many things that defied common sense. So he could only treat it as a fictional mystery novel, like a new kind of mystery—no need to worry about where the settings came from, just follow the logic of the settings.
It is known that there are two Schillers. Although they say they are the same person, they should still be labeled as two separate characters. Deathstroke decided to call them "Agent Schiller" and "Liar Schiller" respectively.
These two characters share a common trait: they can exchange souls and control each other's bodies through an unknown means. This process is so fast that it's almost imperceptible. Furthermore, because they claim to be the same person, and both bodies look identical, they can convincingly impersonate each other when controlling the other's body.
If we assume everything Schiller said is true, we can deduce the following sequence of events:
Conman Schiller created an artifact in the United States. For some reason, the Justice League believed his artifact was of great value. However, by the time they discovered its value, Schiller had already contacted the French arms dealer Hersinger to smuggle the artifact out of the country.
On his side, Hessin-nag was no saint either. When he learned that the conman Schiller possessed a collection of valuable artifacts of dubious provenance, he only wanted to acquire them from Schiller and keep them for himself. So, although he agreed to cooperate, he had already secretly contacted Haivin, the director of the Egyptian Museum. Haivin had made preparations before the artifacts arrived, and as soon as they were transported to Egypt, they were immediately transferred to a prepared private vault.
Schiller, a conman, learned that Hessinnagh was planning to breach the contract, so he traveled all the way from the United States to infiltrate the Egyptian Museum as an ordinary employee, hoping to find out whether the most important murals were kept in the underground storage room.
Next, let's look at Agent Schiller's storyline. The Justice League considered this item extremely important, so they approached Agent Schiller. Agent Schiller departed from the United States later and encountered a series of accidents en route. This resulted in the two characters swapping souls.
Agent Schiller became a staff member at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, while conman Schiller arrived in Hegada, Egypt.
The conman Schiller assassinated the leader of one of the two forces preparing for negotiations in Hegada, Egypt, igniting tensions in the Red Sea and leading to its near blockade, leaving the entire country in a state of panic.
Agent Schiller caused quite a stir inside the Egyptian Museum, first sabotaging the temperature control system, which destroyed all the goods stored in the underground storage room except for the murals, and also resulting in the dismissal of the body in question. Then the two of them switched back.
Note that because the conman Schiller and Hessinger communicated separately, and Hessinger and Haivin also communicated separately, and the three never created a group chat, Schiller and Haivin did not know each other. This allowed him to successfully infiltrate the museum, and after tampering with the temperature control system, he went undetected and was only dismissed for a work error.
However, because the shipment stored in the underground warehouse had been damaged, Haivin had to contact the owner of the goods, Hessinnag. Hessinnag knew the conman Schiller. After discovering that it was Schiller who had come looking for him, perhaps out of guilt or hatred for Schiller's destruction of so many goods, he simply asked Haivin to hire an assassin to kill him.
Haivin naturally agreed, because he was also worried that Schiller, the original owner of the murals, would find them hidden in his private vault. So, he decided to go all the way and hire a local assassin organization to hunt down Schiller, who had already been expelled from Cairo.
At this point, Agent Schiller arrived in Cairo and approached the museum. To gain entry, he impersonated Schiller, a former employee who had worked there. Apparently, that's how he got the security guards to let him in.
It's impossible for Haivin to go around telling the world that he used underhanded methods to obtain a shipment of secret goods, only to have the victim come knocking and sabotage it. Therefore, the security guards had no idea what really happened. Clearly, the conman Schiller was well-liked while working there. So, the agent Schiller, posing as the conman Schiller, only needed to make up an excuse like "I forgot something here" to easily infiltrate the museum, and he succeeded.
Furthermore, since Agent Schiller's soul transmigrated into the body of the conman Schiller while the latter was still working here, he was able to use Schiller's body to familiarize himself with the layout and obtain a key card, which he then hid somewhere.
Once Agent Schiller returns to his body and takes control of it to the Egyptian Museum, he can use these items to successfully infiltrate the underground storage room and meet Haivin and Hessinnagh.
Because he was dressed as the conman Schiller, the other party thought he was the conman Schiller who wanted to retrieve his goods.
Up to this point, there's nothing particularly complicated; they simply swapped souls once, and each used the other's body to accomplish some things.
However, if one has no understanding of Schiller and views the whole process from the perspective of a purely bystander, it will inevitably seem very bizarre.
First, there was Deathstroke. He'd only wanted a partner for a mission; he admitted to being a bit curious, but he genuinely didn't intend to ruin the job. However, the mid-mission swap allowed the conman Schiller to teleport to Hegarda, killing both the leader of the armed group and Deathstroke's client. He didn't even have time to investigate the fake mission, and it also heightened tensions in the surrounding area, causing a significant increase in equipment wear and tear.
For Hessingnag and Haivin, the situation was even more terrifying. They were the ones who orchestrated the scheme, yet someone had infiltrated their hometown without warning. But even though the intruder had gotten in, they hadn't done anything to them; instead, they had made a scene and were discovered.
I thought everything was fine after the violent expulsion, but no sooner had I heard the news that Schiller had been expelled from Cairo than he brazenly reappeared in the underground storage room. It's like seeing a ghost.
“I think you should kidnap that curator and ask him,” Deathstroke said. “His bones aren’t tough enough to withstand your spy tactics, are they?”
Schiller shook his head and said, "Hayvin knows I've infiltrated his hometown and sent assassins to hunt me down. How could he be completely unprepared? If I were to tie him up, the whole of Cairo would be thrown into chaos."
"You still have time to worry about this?"
"Didn't you insist on putting on your lousy family drama?!" Schiller said irritably. "Or do you think your son is capable of protecting himself in Cairo amidst the chaos of the 70th or 80th war?"
Deathstroke paused, then said, "It was all for me?"
Then he narrowed his eyes again: "You'd be that kind?"
“I was also surprised that you didn’t take action against me after you learned that I was the one who orchestrated the whole investigation into the cultural relics.”
Deathstroke opened his mouth, but he was too embarrassed to say it. In fact, he hadn't accepted the idea that the two Schillers were the same person. They behaved so differently that he felt they were two different people, and therefore he couldn't pin the blame for one on the other.
"So you're feeling guilty?" Deathstroke asked.
Schiller looked somewhat helpless, as if he didn't want to say anything more. But Deathstroke quickened his pace, walking alongside him and keeping a close eye on him, so he had no choice but to speak again: "You have fully demonstrated to me how much you want to be trapped in the quagmire of parent-child relationships. If your son is injured in the impending turmoil, you will not spare a single living creature in Cairo. If you go on a killing spree, even if I get information about Haivin's private vault from him, how will I retrieve it?"
Deathstroke was somewhat speechless; so that was the reason—a very practical one. However, he didn't believe his son would be in danger. Even if Cairo descended into chaos, he had a way to protect Joseph. Otherwise, all his years as the world's number one mercenary would have been for nothing.
But Schiller didn't actually reveal the full truth. The real reason was that Schiller felt Deathstroke severely underestimated the destructive power of teenagers. He believed that as long as he was strong enough to protect Joseph, nothing would happen. As it turned out, even someone as powerful as Batman couldn't protect his Robin. All patriarchal power ultimately ends in the father's arrogance.
Once things start to spiral out of Deathstroke's control, he'll definitely come to Schiller for help. Schiller, in turn, will need to help him rescue his son. It's better not to create danger in the first place. Kidnapping Haivin is still too risky.
As for Hessinag, that guy is a greedy idiot, completely oblivious to the fact that either Schiller or Haivin could easily crush him. Haivin would never tell him the real address. There's no point in messing with him.
So how exactly do we find the vault where the murals are located? Schiller pondered. It was actually quite difficult, almost like finding a needle in a haystack. Although Cairo was relatively stable now, the winds of change from Hegada would soon blow over here. Once tensions rose here as well, the search would become even more difficult.
Suddenly, Schiller had a flash of inspiration. Behavioral analysis was still too difficult for finding things, requiring a large sample size. And investigating locals in this kind of place was very challenging. But psychoanalysis was different. Schiller only needed to glance at the person hiding the item to roughly guess where they would put it.
Schiller decided to make another exchange. Of course, it would be more difficult to get that person to voluntarily exchange with him now. After all, the first exchange was a kidnapping, mainly based on surprise; the second was a mutually beneficial arrangement. Although he came to help find the way, he could also appear in front of Hessingnag and Haivin, who had tricked him, to mock them.
But this time, it seemed to only benefit the agent. Getting him back would be difficult. But Schiller thought for a moment and came up with a plan. He looked at Deathstroke and said, "What about the 16 national agents who were chasing you?"
“They probably didn’t catch up with me,” Deathstroke said. “They’re fine traveling around those developed European countries. But once they get to this graveyard in the Middle East, they all become spineless.”
“Give them a clear path.” Schiller examined the old gun in his hand. “Let them chase after me. Oh, and if you know any colleagues here, call them too. Put it on Haivin’s tab.”
"What????"
