Chapter 4604 The Day of Brightest Light (Sixty-Three)
Anatoly's expression remained grim even as he entered the Justice League's office. He went inside, but left Schiller and Deathstroke outside, saying he wanted to speak with the Justice League privately.
"They won't start fighting, will they?" Deathstroke asked.
“It was hard to say before, but it probably won’t happen now,” Schiller said. “After all, we still need to save some strength to rescue people from the Origin Wall.”
"So what exactly happened?" Deathstroke asked.
Schiller gave a brief overview. He hadn't actually examined the memories closely, only knowing the general conclusion. Basically, Bruce had orchestrated a series of events that pinned everyone to the Origin Wall. And once they were there, no matter how powerful they were, they couldn't get down on their own.
“God,” said Deathstroke, “so what’s with that wall?”
"That's not a wall, it's more like a protective shield for the universe, preventing the real universe from being threatened by external forces. That's why things hanging on it can't come down."
"Can that Russian take them down?"
“Perhaps,” Schiller said. “He should have a way, it just depends on the scale of the commotion.”
"Do we need to consider the magnitude of the commotion?" Deathstroke said. "You've already gone to the Russians; you only need to consider whether the commotion is large or extremely large."
"That's not necessarily true. He did have a completely quiet and efficient solution, but unfortunately he didn't want to use it."
What plan?
“Find Lucifer.” Schiller smiled again and said, “Unfortunately, the two of them are in the middle of a cold war.”
"What's going on here?"
Schiller didn't go into details this time, only saying, "The two of them had a minor disagreement, and they've been in a cold war for about ten years."
"More than ten years?! You can just say they broke off their friendship..."
Schiller shook his head and said, "Lucifer is an immortal being, living from before the creation of the world until now. More than ten years for humans is at most two and a half days for him. In the context of the Cold War, that's not a long time."
"Yes, the Soviets were best at this, weren't they?"
They both laughed. But soon, Schiller said, "It's not difficult to get these people down, the difficulty lies in doing so without causing any harm, without damaging a single one. That requires very delicate operational skills."
“It doesn’t sound like something a human could do,” Deathstroke commented. “That Russian doesn’t look like anything special. Can he really do it?”
"You know, the Soviets were capable of anything to avoid bowing down in the Cold War."
Just then, Anatoly pushed open the door and came out. Wonder Woman followed him. Hal followed as well. Only Arthur, at the very back, said, "This first Genie is acting strange. Why does his English sound like it has a Russian accent?"
"You speak Russian?"
“I talked to the fish over there,” Arthur said, “but I didn’t dare talk to them much, you know, I was afraid there might be KGB agents among them.”
"Where did he go?" Schiller looked in the direction where their group had disappeared.
“Over there at the Master Lamp,” Arthur said, “I must say, this first Lampman is quite loyal. As soon as we asked him to help find Batman, he immediately agreed. And he didn’t refuse the request to use the power of the seven lamps either. I really don’t know why the little blue man locked him up in the first place.”
“Perhaps it was because he hadn’t yet fallen out with Lucifer at that time,” Schiller laughed again.
Then the two of them went to the Lampburner and overheard Anatoly saying, "America sacrificed the wisdom of everyone over the past two hundred years in exchange for a Batman. I think it was worth it. The design of this Lampburner is ingenious, even more so than the Guardians of the Universe. This can't just be attributed to the advantage of being a latecomer; he truly has some expertise in mechanical engineering."
“Alright, let’s leave the research on the power of the Seven Lamps here for now,” Anatoly said. “Now I’m going to go to the multiverse to inquire; I should have news soon. Wait for me to come back.”
"I feel a bit tired, I'm going back to sleep for a while," Schiller suddenly said. Deathstroke looked at him, completely bewildered. Sleeping at the crack of dawn?
However, they haven't slept much these past few days in order to complete their mission. He's a cyborg, so he doesn't need to sleep, but Schiller, the orca disguised as a normal human, still needs to sleep.
Deathstroke, sensing another fierce battle was likely to follow, went back to rest. Little did he know, he was truly asleep, while Schiller had returned to the tower.
“He’s definitely going to find out about Lucifer,” Greed said, leaning on the courtyard railing. “But Lucifer can’t find out, because if he does, he’ll lose.”
“That’s right, he’ll secretly try to find out.” Another voice came from below. “If Lucifer doesn’t intend to make peace with him, he will never ask him to take them down from the Origin Wall.”
"The immortal species are such a hassle." Another voice came from above, "Otherwise, after more than ten years of cold war, a victor should have been decided by now."
“I feel something’s not right,” Arrogance said. “Does Lucifer know that Anatoly is the first Lantern Man?”
“How could he not know? He’s an administrator; he can see the backend data.”
"Oh, right. Bruce is an administrator too, and he still hung everyone on the wall. The unprofessionalism of these angels is shocking."
"Good heavens, so Lucifer still doesn't know?"
“He may know he’s alive, but he doesn’t know he’s back,” another voice said. “God probably doesn’t want his eldest son to have contact with Anatolito either. Wasn’t being fooled once enough?”
"You mean, God is also helping Anatoly keep it a secret?"
"My God, wouldn't Lucifer go crazy if he found out?"
“No, I think if Anatoly is keeping it from Lucifer, he must have his reasons. It certainly wasn’t to hurt him.”
"What could be the reason? Is it because he's afraid God will target him?"
“If he were afraid of God, he wouldn’t have done those things.”
The discussion inside the tower grew increasingly heated. Greed suggested, "We really should send someone to watch the spectacle."
"Come on, you can't possibly follow him without him noticing." A voice came from the bottom of the tower. "I tried to follow him to the cafeteria before, but I was discovered before I even left the corridor on that floor."
"This guy's KGB job wasn't for nothing; his counter-surveillance awareness is too strong. If he finds out we're following him just to watch the show, I'm in big trouble."
"What should we do? I really want to know if he went to find Lucifer. It would be such a waste to miss out on this huge spectacle."
“If we were to go, he would definitely know we were there to watch the show. But there’s one thing he wouldn’t know.”
“Ah, I see, Agent.” Greed looked down at the agent and said, “He knows you’re only doing this for the mission.”
"I dont go."
"why?"
"What kind of bullshit mission is it to just watch the show?"
“Then let me put it again.” Greed cleared his throat. “The oversight of the Origin Wall rescue plan.”
"Why should I follow him when I can just squat down by the Origin Wall?"
"Uh, how about I protect him closely?"
"Does he still need my protection?"
“Generally speaking, no. But if he goes to find Lucifer and Lucifer discovers that he has already returned, the two will inevitably have to fight.”
"So what? Can I beat him, or can I beat Lucifer?"
“But if you stand between the two of them, they definitely won’t dare to make a move. Because Lucifer knows that you and Anatoli have a close relationship, and Anatoli knows that you are entangled with Lucifer. For each other’s sake, they won’t dare to do anything to you.”
The agent looked speechless. Greed pressed on: "And you can completely change his stereotype of American agents."
What stereotypes?
"Uh, stupid and incompetent or something?"
"He's not rigid enough. Stupid, incompetent, reckless, and impulsive, he has absolutely no professionalism, his vigilance is comparable to that of a mature banana, and he kills his own people ten times more efficiently than he kills the enemy. How could I not know that?"
Now it was Greed's turn to be speechless. He said, "But you're not like that. You could have left him with a good impression of being shrewd and capable."
"Didn't you notice?" the agent pointed out. "It's the lingering pathological characteristics in you that make you want to seek his approval. But I don't need it."
"This isn't about seeking validation; we just want to see the show!" a voice boomed from below the tower. "If you knew him well enough, you'd know what a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this is. I think you've already figured out that he's even more difficult than Batman. It's not easy to see someone like him get his comeuppance."
"I was about to say that," the detective said. "You're the closest to him, and all you want to do is watch him make a fool of himself?"
"For a long time, this has been our driving force. In short, if you don't go, we'll go ourselves..."
The detective sighed and said, "I'll go instead. But he'll probably be doing a lot of mystical research, which I don't understand at all."
“Find a teammate,” Greed said. “I’ll help you make some contact information. Just remember not to go too far away, especially when he’s preparing to go to heaven.”
When Schiller opened his eyes, he sighed first. He had been sighing quite often lately. However, considering the troubles facing the multiverse, the frequency of his sighs had actually decreased.
He quickly saw the news about the Battle Realm and then arrived at the landing point of the main universe's Battle Realm teleportation, which was also at the Justice League's base. However, since Batman wasn't there, Superman was the one who approved it. Schiller had obviously informed him beforehand. The teleportation array flashed, and a figure wearing a long trench coat walked out.
Schiller stepped forward and shook hands with Constantine. He chose the Constantine from the cinematic universe because he anticipated the possibility that this matter might be related to Heaven. In the multiverse, only Constantine's power derives primarily from religion.
“You look much better,” Schiller said, looking Constantine up and down. “Have you quit smoking?”
"No." Constantine pulled out another cigarette and put it in his mouth. However, he had a good habit: he only smoked for himself. He rarely smoked if there were other people around.
Constantine did look much healthier. Although he was still thin and pale, he was much better than before, when he looked half-dead. He went to the reception area and sat down, where Schiller sat opposite him.
"So, the mission this time is..."
Schiller opened his mouth, momentarily at a loss for words. He felt that if he told Constantine directly that he was going to watch Lucifer fight someone, Constantine would definitely shove a flaming Gatling gun into his head to bring him to his senses.
So he changed his approach to a more tactful one: "We've hired an expert to solve the case of Batman's disappearance across the multiverse. He might encounter some friends from Heaven and Hell along the way. We need to protect him throughout to ensure Batman can be rescued."
“I see. It seems those archangels and Satans are up to their old tricks again.” Constantine shook his head and said, “I just didn’t expect them to dare to mess with Batman. That’s not a good choice; they’ve lost their minds.”
“Who says otherwise?” Schiller also pulled out a cigarette, put it in his mouth, and said with a sneer, “I really don’t know which reckless person caused this trouble, or which unlucky guy has to clean up his mess.”
I was busy until after 11 pm, sorry it's a bit late.
