Chapter 4625 Aftermath (Part 2)
But he couldn't say that to Batman. Although he thought Batman would understand his forgery of artifacts, he naturally had to demonstrate his value in order to continue to receive the Justice League's protection.
Moreover, Batman told him that this clue came from Schiller. Schiller was also involved in the creation of the artifact, and might have secretly added his own ulterior motives. So Dr. Hall quickly went to the Fringe Serpent and began to study it.
On the surface, it seemed impossible to find anything. Dr. Hall then had Batman put on the scanner, but it didn't reveal anything either. However, seeing Batman's confident demeanor, Dr. Hall thought for a moment and said, "It's possible that it's not the artifact itself, but rather something that happened during this period."
What happened during this period?
"In later generations, Tutankhamun is seen as a pharaoh with a strong mystical aura. However, due to his short reign, his contributions to ancient Egyptian civilization were limited. But I have indeed heard a legend from Tutankhamun's time."
"What legend?"
"This is a court secret of ancient Egypt, and I'm not entirely sure if it's true. Anyway, during Tutankhamun's time, there was a mysterious glass city in the desert. The people there lived in palaces that shone like crystal. The queen of this city was named Nada. But one day, she fell in love with a traveler named 'Dream.' However, their love was destined to be nothing more than a beautiful dream. After Nada followed Dream to his kingdom, the glass city was destroyed by a fireball that fell from the sky and disappeared without a trace."
The main universe's Batman immediately realized that this so-called "Dream Traveler" was very likely the Sandman. Queen Nada had once shared a night with him. But that happened thousands of years ago; Nada was probably long dead, so how could she know the Sandman's whereabouts?
“Wait a minute,” the main universe Batman discovered the most crucial point in this story—“The Queen has been to the Land of Dreams?”
"Yes, according to legend, she went through countless hardships to reach the land of dreams. Finally, in a palace, she met the lover she had longed for. But after they spent a night together, the glass city was destroyed. The queen realized that this might be caused by her union with the dream, so she returned to Egypt and jumped off a cliff to commit suicide."
“The palace…” the main universe Batman repeated the word softly, “The Queen must have gone directly to the Sandman’s house. This means that, like Lucifer and Constantine, she knows the Sandman’s exact address.”
"Did she leave anything behind?" the main universe Batman asked, "like murals or writings or something..."
Hall thought for a moment and said, "There aren't many cliffs in Egypt; most are by the sea. Maybe she left something there before she died..."
“Hegada.” Wonder Woman slapped her forehead. “I’ll go call Deathstroke. Oh, and I offered him a pretty high price…”
Batman gave her a "I'm super rich" look, and Wonder Woman went off to assign tasks with peace of mind. Not long after, Deathstroke replied. He said, "There is indeed a cliff on the northern coast of Hegard, not very big, but enough to kill someone. I searched the area but didn't find any remains. However, there's a rocky area nearby where I saw some strokes, not sure if they're writing..."
The Bell took many photos. Hall picked them up, looked at them, nodded, and said, "It is indeed ancient Egyptian writing, just with the shapes broken up. Let me see… Oh, it's a love poem… 'We are in a cemetery filled with flowers… a dream with fairies and goblins, bees flying, filled with the scent of citrus and rosemary…'"
"What?" The Batman of the main universe reacted very directly.
“I know this is abstract. But I don’t expect you to use these clues to find it.” Hall took a charm off his neck and said, “When Nada was in love with Dream, she must have left something in the palace. She was an ancient Egyptian, and this is a scarab amulet, a sacred relic of ancient Egypt. If you follow the scent of the amulet, you should be able to find the palace of Dream God.”
"Thank you," the main universe Batman said sincerely. "You've been a great help."
Then he turned to Wonder Woman and said, "Double Deathstroke's salary and make sure he protects Dr. Hall. We'll be right back."
They quickly returned to the tower. This time, Batman personally took charge, bringing Charles along, and used ancient Egyptian relics to find the palace of the Dream God. It wasn't easy, but it was much better than their previous aimless wandering.
When Batman returned, Schiller knew the method had worked. Actually, it wasn't something he had planned beforehand; the entire love story was part of the Sandman comic book plot.
Nada was Morpheus's lover and the catalyst for his falling out with Lucifer. After her death, Nada didn't go to Heaven but was imprisoned in Hell. When Morpheus returned to his family and spoke to beings of fate and death, he was mocked for "sending his lover to Hell." Morpheus was furious but also realized he had been wrong to let Nada go back and commit suicide. So he went to Hell, fought Lucifer, and persuaded Lucifer to release Nada.
However, Lucifer clearly tricked Morpheus. He appeared to have lost, but in reality, he deliberately emptied Hell and handed the key to it to Morpheus, just to see him overwhelmed by the beings vying for control of Hell.
After seeing Morpheus, Nada slapped him. Their relationship ended completely; Nada refused to go back with him. Morpheus had no choice but to send her to reincarnation. Their breakup was a clean one, and Nada never appeared in public again.
Schiller believes that Morpheus's later reluctance to become the God of Dreams may also be related to this less-than-pleasant emotional experience. And because of this, he and Lucifer were completely unable to coexist peacefully.
“The Sandman has awakened,” Batman’s voice drifted in. “But he’s asking us to do him a favor. Otherwise, he won’t help us cleanse the Dream Kingdom.”
"I really don't understand, isn't the Dream Kingdom his home?" Strange said, somewhat irritably. "Is he just going to watch his own home get messed up like this?"
“He was clearly not in a good mood,” Charles said.
“I don’t think anyone would be in a good mood if they were woken up by such a violent method,” Superman said. “I’ve already said it, things are different here than on your side. You just had to come up and punch me…”
"Just tell me if he's awake or not!" Strange said irritably. "Your demons here have such bad tempers. My punch didn't even do anything to him, did it?"
"What exactly is he trying to do?" Wonder Woman asked. "He's not going to send us to search for something in the Egyptian pharaoh's tomb again, is he?"
“You were absolutely right,” Batman said. “But not to the grave, but to find a living person—his former lover, Nada, who has come back from the dead.”
"Aren't there a lot of people coming back to life lately?" Batman the Adventurer couldn't help but say. "Can someone send me some background information?"
The main universe's Batman looked up at Schiller. Greed snapped his fingers, and a ball of light flew out of the memory bank, then into everyone's mental bodies. Soon they were all getting their hands on the Dream God's mess.
"Good heavens," Batman exclaimed after reading it, "They actually have the nerve to ask us to find people? Are there any normal people left in the world?"
"Could he have caused that fireball?" Wonder Woman was clearly more wary. "He deliberately destroyed his lover's country so he could keep her by his side..."
"You've watched a lot of this." Superman looked at her in disbelief.
“I don’t think so,” Batman said. “When Nada said she wanted to go back, Morpheus still let her go. If Morpheus were in the right position, he wouldn’t have had to let Nada go back at all.”
"What is Lucifer doing again!" Wonder Woman exclaimed. "Why is he keeping Nada trapped in hell? Is he crazy?"
“He probably didn’t do it on purpose,” Schiller began. “Hell was in complete chaos back then.”
“Then let me ask you,” Batman looked up at him and said, “why is Hell in such chaos?”
"Never mind that," Schiller said, changing the subject. "Anyway, are you going to look for someone?"
"Find my ass!" Strange cursed. "These demons are just bored out of their minds. Can we stop talking?!"
After some discussion, they finally decided they had to go find Lucifer. After all, he was the one truly responsible for this mess. However, Lucifer was still blocking the hole, so he obviously couldn't go find the Sandman.
After some discussion, the Batmen finally found a perfect solution—to take Lucifer down and hang Bruce up.
They are both archangels. Although Bruce isn't as strong as Lucifer, he's still an angel, so plugging a hole shouldn't be a problem for him. He's just sitting around doing nothing anyway, so rather than letting him harm the multiverse, it's better to make him pay the price for his actions.
Bruce did try to escape. But this time his actions clearly angered everyone, and the Underworld wasn't on his side anymore. So, he was unfortunately arrested and successfully hung on the Origin Wall, plugging the hole in the wall. As for when he'll be taken down, that depends on when Batman finds a way to completely seal the hole.
Arrogance learned of this from the tower. Somewhat surprisingly, this time he finally decided not to try and rescue his worthless student. Not because he lacked the ability, but because he knew he was in the wrong.
While sending Earth into the Apocalypse Realm and instigating Darkseid and the Black Death to attack each other could be considered normal acts of protest, leading everyone to crash into the Origin Wall is truly outrageous.
In particular, Anatoly, Lucifer, and Batman are all there. This is equivalent to a student being able to get a passing grade of 58 on a regular test. During the graduation defense, the principal, department head, and top students in the same major are all present, and the prerequisite for the professor to engage in a heated debate with everyone is that the person standing on top has to be a real person—a husky won't do.
Lucifer, who had been summoned, didn't really want to talk. He and Morpheus were simply at odds. But Anatoly was there, and Nada happened to be one of the figures from his past misdeeds in Hell. Lucifer really didn't want his old grievances brought up, so he reluctantly went anyway.
No one knows how the two of them talked. Anyway, Morpheus reluctantly went out and cleaned up the Dream Kingdom. Although the Black Death Emperor left behind a large force, it was no match for Morpheus. The Dream Kingdom quickly returned to peace.
And so, the aftermath finally subsided. Although it seemed like a multiverse-level catastrophe caused by the Black Emperor, in reality, Deathstroke and Joseph, Lucifer and Anatoly, Morpheus and Nada—"it was just a large-scale prime-time family drama," the agent remarked.
