Chapter 8 First Job
Chapter 8 First Job
The carriage moved at a normal speed, and Li Wei, because of his good storytelling, managed to get a seat at the front of the carriage.
Although there was a wary old man driving a horse-drawn carriage next to me, I didn't have to walk myself, so what was there to complain about?
Leaning back against the carriage frame, he chatted idly with the girl, and the girl's name was tricked into revealing itself: Annabelle, daughter of Baron Veserad.
The place they were heading to was the territory later occupied by the cuckolded Bloody Baron, Raven's Den.
The war hasn't started yet, which is good news for Levi. Levi plans to make some money and buy a manor in Toussaint, the land of knights, to retire before the war begins.
White Tree Orchard is a good option; it leaves Geralt with nowhere to go.
"As the Chosen One was tackled by the Tyrant Hilichurl and his life hung by a thread, with the Great Stone Guardian watching from the sidelines, the injured Azure Star drew his katana without hesitation and chose to fight again. But because Azure Star made a move, the Bazelgeuse, known as the police, came running after smelling the danger and joined the melee. Just when it seemed like they were all doomed, the sixth of the Calabash Brothers jumped out with his divine weapon in hand and shouted, 'If I call your name, will you dare to answer?'"

Li Wei blinked his dry lips twice, and the guard, with keen insight, tossed him a water bag.
Annabelle looked at Levi expectantly and asked.
"And then?"
Li Wei took a sip of water to moisten his throat, tossed the water bag back, and looked at the silly roe deer in front of him with a smile.
"I haven't decided what to do next yet. I'll let you know when I do."
The silly roe deer glared.
"Is this a story you made up?"
Li Wei was quite pleased that a silly roe deer had listened to his nonsense and actually believed it, so he decided to throw out some real information.
"Well, the story was made up, but the monster wasn't. You probably can't see it."
However, there are still some things in the forest, such as the deer-headed spirit: this creature looks like a deer, but its head is covered with moss and bones, and it often hides deep in the dense forest.
They have a strong sense of territory, drain the life force of humans, and manipulate the plants and animals in the forest to attack. They can even summon wolf packs or crows to assist in the battle.
Tree Spirit: Tree spirits are about 7 feet tall, with moss and bones covering their elk skulls. They are considered guardians or avengers of ancient forests.
They possess the ability to transform and manipulate nature, summoning vines to bind targets, and their sharp claws can easily tear through defenses.
Qiqimo: This is a type of insectoid monster that usually inhabits swampy areas, but swamps are often connected to forests.
They are agile and can swim underwater; ordinary people who are surrounded by them will only die.
Ghouls, giant ghouls, swamp banshees, graveyard witches, water ghosts, and the like—I don't need to explain them, do I? Even your guards could explain them to some extent. If you're really interested, buy a warlock's book; it'll definitely have an introduction.
Annabelle chuckled twice.
"There are quite a few dangerous monsters in the forest."
Li Wei shook his head.
"There are fewer monsters now, you basically don't see any at all. They also hide in human settlements. Do you know what's the most dangerous thing in the forest now?"
"What? A wolf?"
"No, it's wild dogs. Wolves hunt prey simply to fill their stomachs; they only hunt for survival. Wild dogs are different. They kill for pleasure or territory, just like humans, not to fill their stomachs."
Of course, there will be plenty of bandits, thugs, werewolves, and all sorts of other weirdos. Wild dogs learned from them; the monsters that humans turned into are the most terrifying.
"I'm feeling a bit unwell, so I'll lie down and rest."
The silly roe deer shrank back, and the old man beside him looked at Li Wei with less wariness.
He said with a hint of gratitude.
"Thank you. I'm actually afraid that one day you might suddenly decide to take a few reckless young men for a spin in the forest and let them see what it's like."
"Good people don't live long in this world. Tell your young lady to read more serious books and less romance novels. Be more careful and don't get fooled."
Annabelle, the plague banshee of the Rat Tower, a naive and innocent girl who believed in a treacherous boy for love, died a terrible death. But it has nothing to do with Levi; consider this a reminder as payment for the ride.
The old man sensed something was off about Li Wei's words, but there was nothing wrong with them, so he stopped caring.
"Sir, when you arrive at your destination, you can check the village notice board to see what jobs are available. Generally, there will be jobs for cleaning up water ghosts or protecting caravans."
"You sound quite knowledgeable. You could go into the city and see if you're lucky; perhaps some nobles are recruiting advisors."
Li Wei, leaning his head back against the frame, felt a pang of anxiety. Thinking of the strange scribblings in the sacrificial site, he sighed bitterly.
"That's really unfortunate, I don't recognize your writing."
The localization patch isn't fully installed; it's already good enough if you can understand what they say.
.......
The carriage continued on its way, passing two small villages, but Li Wei refused to get off.
Why bother finding work in these dead-end places when you can start in a big village?
The troublemakers in the Witcher world are notoriously difficult to deal with in the gaming world, and Li Wei doesn't want to be carrying the head of a water ghost or some other thing to the village chief to ask for money one day.
The village chief begged him, saying he had no money and the village was so poor they couldn't even afford to eat, asking if he could get it for free.
Or arrange for a troublemaker to stab him with a pitchfork from behind.
In wealthier areas, there are fewer of these ridiculous incidents. That's right, Li Wei no longer expects to encounter troublemakers who simply hand over money every time.
As evening approached, the carriage finally arrived at Crow's Nest, a large village with wooden walls.
After following the carriage inside and saying goodbye on the way, Li Wei was told by the guards that he could find the village chief to take on jobs. He randomly grabbed a passerby and asked where the village chief was, so he could find a job and slip away at the same time.
This place would be a nightmare for modern people, but when medieval farmers gathered here, the food was simply perfect.
Moreover, poultry roam everywhere on the road, and if you step on the road, you'll find chicken droppings, pig manure, horse manure, and even human droppings mixed in with the mud, which makes it even more perfect.
The excrement that piled up on the road all day wouldn't be cleaned up until the next morning by the manure workers, who would then take it for composting.
Yes, it's that bloody.
Anyway, Li Wei wasn't planning to stay here. He figured he'd better find a place to borrow a flint and steel and build a campfire outside than get pickled up here.
After asking around, Li Wei knocked on the village chief's door a dozen minutes later.
A drunken, middle-aged man carrying a bottle of liquor pushed open the door.
"You and him..."
Before he could finish speaking, he saw the sword hanging at Li Wei's waist, and he sobered up a bit. His voice became softer, and he spoke more clearly.
"Excuse me, is there anything I can help you with?"
Li Wei gets straight to the point; he doesn't want to stay there for even a second longer.
"Any work to do? We'll take on monster clearing, bandit raiding, and other jobs, not to mention finding medicine."
"Of course there are. About twenty miles to the west, a traveling merchant was robbed by bandits. There are probably three to five of them. We can offer ten crowns."
"Only ten?"
"Only? A thousand copper coins isn't enough? A loaf of bread and a beer only cost five copper coins!"
"Are you kidding me? 20 crowns."
"make a deal!!!"
Damn, that's not enough!
