Chapter 304: The Beautiful Professor
Chapter 304: The Beautiful Professor
New Earth, the M Country's Ministry of Defense building. Secretary of Defense James is speaking with President Smith via the Red Line.
"Mr. President, since its commissioning for forty years, NASA has allocated substantial funds to upgrade the Graham Base Large Binoculars for observing Earth-like planets near our solar system and searching for extraterrestrial civilizations. This morning at nine o'clock, at that metallic cloud 22 light-years away, the base's Large Binoculars observed traces of an unidentified flying object (UFO) traveling at high speed through it. Scientists carefully compared the observation data from a month ago and concluded that over the past month, the UFO's speed increased from 50% to 70% of the speed of light."
"70% of the speed of light? That means these UFOs will reach our solar system in about 32 years?"
"Yes, theoretically that's the case. But, Mr. President, we don't know if the UFO will continue to accelerate."
Regarding the metallic cloud 22 light-years away, scientists on New Earth were divided, with many different theories. Some scientists believed it to be the wreckage of an alien warship, while others thought it was a cloud of hydrogen ions deposited under the influence of cosmic rays. Smith was silent for a minute on the other end of the phone. "James, I need to speak with the President of Country C. I hope Country C's FAST telescope can confirm the unidentified flying object."
“Mr. President, I think it is inappropriate to ask Country C for help now.”
James's statement was untimely because relations between the US and China have been extremely tense for the past month, almost escalating to the point of open conflict. Currently, China has deployed five nuclear submarines each 12 nautical miles off the west and east coasts of the US. Even in the Pacific Ocean, a standoff between US and Chinese aircraft carriers continues, and it's estimated that the hypersonic warheads of China's space-based mobile space station are already aimed at US territory.
“If these UFOs are an alien fleet, then countries C and R will have no choice. James, contact the military of countries C and R, send them the UFO observation results, and wait for their response.”
"Yes, Mr. President."
"James, things have come to this point, we can't wait any longer. Send a secret operations team to Country N and give them all the support they need."
"clear."
"That's settled then. I'm off to the United Nations for a joint lunar development conference."
"Yes."
James hung up the phone, thought for a moment, and then dialed the internal line to call his secretary, Mary.
About three minutes later, a tall, handsome man in military uniform, who looked to be about thirty-three or thirty-four years old, followed Mary in.
"Sir." The soldier saluted James, and James returned the salute.
"Colonel Jess, there's an important mission for you to complete." After saying that, James handed Jess a mission briefing.
Jess carefully reviewed the mission briefing. "Sir, Jess will definitely complete the mission."
“Very good. All the authorities in our country, including the Ministry of National Defense, will give you their full support.”
"Thank you, sir."
"The task must be completed as soon as possible."
"Yes, sir."
Jess gave another military salute, then left James's office with the mission briefing.
New Earth, the most prestigious university in the United States, Harvard University.
"Professor, was the Starlight Crown you just played real?"
“Mamia, it is an antique-style drawing I made based on myths and scattered records. This starlight crown is the crown of the god-king Kalis.”
"Professor, you just said that the falling out between the god of war Marcus and the god of thunder led to the war of the gods. Why did the god of war Marcus become enemies with the god of thunder?"
"A proverb from Country C is true: 'Beauty is a curse.' This involves a love triangle. In short, Minova, the goddess of wisdom, wavered between the god of war and the god of thunder. Although Minova was nominally the god of thunder's wife, she later cheated on him many times. The god of war and the god of thunder eventually turned against each other, leading to the division of the gods and the subsequent war of the gods."
"What is the God-King Kalis doing? Isn't she the God-King? Don't the other gods listen to the God-King?"
“Michelle, that’s a very good question. I’ve been researching in Northern Europe for over a year. According to Norse mythology, the goddess Callis’s divine power declined because she became pregnant and gave birth to a child. The gods believed that Callis was no longer worthy to be the goddess. In addition, the god of war Marcus was ambitious, so Callis eventually lost control of the situation.”
"If the Norse mythology is true, whose child is Kalis's?"
"At that time, Carlisle was highly respected among ordinary people. In order to cover up the scandal of Carlisle giving birth, there was a saying that Carlisle was hermaphroditic."
On the podium, a tall, beautiful young teacher with long blonde hair and excellent looks and figure was earnestly explaining to the forty-three students below.
When the beautiful teacher told the forty-three students that Carlisle was hermaphroditic, they all laughed, and the beautiful teacher laughed too.
"Professor, I read your book 'The War of the Gods,' and you seemed to focus a lot on a particular god, I think it was called 'the Celestial God'?"
"Yes, Dennis Lee, thank you for buying and reading my book."
"Could you tell me about that 'god'?"
The beautiful teacher glanced at her watch; there were only three minutes left before get out of class ended. "Due to time constraints, I'll just give a brief overview. 'Gods' are not frequently mentioned in Norse mythology; in fact, they appear very rarely. However, the 'Great Book of the Gods' records a grand ceremony in which the god-king Callis bestowed the title of 'God' upon a man. With the God's help, the gods completed the 'Book of Gods'."
After speaking, the beautiful teacher displayed a string of bamboo slips in the holographic projection. On these bamboo slips were many symbols that looked like small snakes.
The students didn't recognize any of those twisted and bizarre symbols.
"This bamboo slip was buried underground for nearly 10,000 years when it was discovered. Fortunately, the bamboo slip had undergone special treatment, so today we can know that the gods once wrote a 'heavenly book' with the help of 'heavenly gods'."
"Professor, is there really such a thing as a 'heavenly book'?"
"According to records, it does exist, but our archaeological team spent two years and still couldn't find the legendary 'heavenly book'."
“Professor, I’m not questioning your abilities. Perhaps this ‘heavenly book’ isn’t a heavenly book at all, you’ve made a mistake, or perhaps this ‘heavenly book’ doesn’t even exist.”
"No, I firmly believe that this 'heavenly book' exists."
"I remember about six months ago, some of your colleagues, archaeologists and historians, questioned you, saying that you created a 'heavenly book' in 'The War of the Gods' just to create hype and increase your book sales. Besides, it seems that you are the only expert in those tadpole-like characters in the world, right?"
The student's meaning is clear: those tadpole-like characters, since you are the only expert, whatever you say they are, they are.
The beautiful professor raised an eyebrow, glanced around the audience, and asked, "Do you think I need to be unconventional or try to attract attention?"
"No need!" the students exclaimed in unison, then burst into laughter. The beautiful professor also laughed, seemingly quite satisfied with the students' answer.
The bell rang outside the classroom, signaling the end of get out of class. The beautiful professor waved to the students, then packed up her books and teaching materials before leaving the classroom and heading towards her office.
The beautiful professor turned on her computer. The screen displayed the bamboo scroll. Beside the screen sat a thick book with the title "War of the Gods" on the cover. She turned to a page with an illustration: the god-king Kalis, wearing a star-studded crown, and the other gods gathered in a palace. Below the throne steps stood a man, but only his back was visible; his face was obscured.
The gods are described the least in myths and legends, so the beautiful professor uses the scene of the god-king bestowing the title of "god" on a man to give the "god" a back view.
Suddenly, there was a loud knocking on the door. The beautiful professor turned around and called out, "Come in."
The door was gently pushed open. "Principal, what brings you here?"
The principal smiled and nodded. Behind her stood a tall, imposing, and handsome soldier. "Professor Lefia, this is Colonel Jess. He needs to speak with you."
Colonel Jess shook hands with the principal, who then stepped back, closed the door, and left.
"Professor Lefia, hello."
"Colonel Jess, hello, what can I do for you?"
Colonel Jess noticed the computer screen display and then carefully examined the beautiful professor. Lefia seemed somewhat displeased with the colonel's rude behavior, her lips slightly upturned.
"Professor Lefia, I didn't expect you to be so young."
"Colonel Jess, you look much older than me." Colonel Jess gave an awkward laugh.
“Professor Lefia, let me get straight to the point. I’ve come to see you today because I hope you can participate in a top-secret operation.” With that, Jess pulled a document from his bag and handed it to Lefia. Lefia glanced at it and saw the word “Top Secret” in the upper right corner of the document.
Lefia hesitated for a moment, then took the document and began to carefully read through it, her expression constantly changing.
Lefia closed the file and handed it to Jess. "Colonel Jess, is everything inside true?"
“It’s true. Don’t you also believe that the ‘Heavenly Book’ exists? Our goal is to find the ‘Heavenly Book’.”
"I never imagined that the 'Heavenly Book' was hidden near the Garhepigen Mountains in Country N. But what about that ring? It doesn't seem to be a creation of humankind."
"Professor, you are absolutely right. This ring is currently in Area 51."
“Colonel Jess, before I join the action team, I need to go to Area 51 to see this ring.” After saying that, Lefia stared intently at Jess, her gaze sharp.
"Professor, is this ring special?"
"Because in mythology, the gods saw the 'god of heaven' use a ring."
Colonel Jess stared wide-eyed at Lefia. "Colonel, the 'Gods' do exist, and so do the 'Book of Heaven'."
"Okay, Professor, please get ready as soon as possible." Colonel Jess glanced at his watch. "I'll pick you up at your doorstep at 5:00 PM, an hour and a half from now."
"Okay, Colonel."
Colonel Jess turned around, then back, "Oh, right, Professor, I've already asked for leave for you, Principal." He then closed the door and left.
Lefia quickly packed all the books, documents, USB drives, and her slim laptop from her desk and drawers into a travel bag. Because Lefia likes to travel and conduct research whenever she wants, a travel bag is essential at school and at home.
After tidying up her office, Lefia drove home and packed her personal belongings, clothes, and other items into a large travel backpack.
Two car horns sounded outside the door. Lefia looked out the window and saw two military vehicles parked at the entrance. Colonel Jess was waiting in the hood of the first vehicle. Lefia picked up her backpack, locked the door, and quickly walked to the first vehicle. Colonel Jess waved to Lefia. Jess politely opened the car door for Lefia, and she got in. Jess then got in as well and sat down with Lefia.
The car started, and the car behind followed. The two cars sped off and arrived at an air force base in less than an hour. When changing planes, Lefia learned that the special operations team consisted of ten people. Besides Colonel Jess and herself, there was a physicist, Pick Cao, a computer expert, John, a biologist, Edward, a doctor, and the other five looked like special forces soldiers, one of whom was a female soldier.
After a simple dinner at the airbase, the ten men boarded a military aircraft with their equipment. Escorted by four fighter jets, the plane flew for about an hour and a half before arriving at Area 51. It was August, and the sky was still slightly bright.
After Jess introduced the meeting place and time for the next morning, as well as some important information, the staff from Area 51 led the ten people to their respective rooms.
Lying in bed, Lefia tossed and turned, unable to sleep due to her excitement. She took out her laptop and reviewed the information about the "gods" again.
