Chapter 27 The Great Villain Returns
Chapter 27 The Great Villain Returns
The next day, before dawn, Linni woke up and sat up to see Ye, Baishu, and Baiji quietly packing their luggage. Linni got up and greeted them with a smile, "Good morning, Ye!"
Ye came over and kissed Lin Ni: "Shall we get up?"
Linni nodded.
They quietly packed their belongings and then left the ape tribe. They didn't disturb anyone, but they also didn't deliberately avoid the orcs on guard. Before leaving the tribe, Linni took out her phone and took a selfie with the tribe as the background, along with Ye, Baishu, and Baiji. She wanted to record her little moments in this world.
On a crisp autumn morning, a gentle breeze carried a touch of coolness. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Linni, feeling the fresh air, was filled with anticipation as she embarked on another journey into the unknown mountains.
Night told Linni that he had previously lived in the large pool beneath the waterfall and had scouted the surrounding area to assess the dangers. He had some knowledge of the ape tribe that inhabited the area, but other places were too far away, so he felt there was no need to investigate further. They were about to enter a completely unfamiliar region, so they needed to be even more cautious.
Linni nodded in understanding. She knew that in this mountain forest, any carelessness could lead to danger. Bai Shu and Bai Ji followed silently behind, their eyes firm and calm, as if they were already prepared to face any difficulties.
Their luggage was still carried by Bai Ji, while Lin Ni put the small bamboo tube of salt in her backpack, and the jam and wine were hung on Bai Ji's body. Her walking speed was rather slow for an orc, but she persisted in walking briskly for two hours every day—one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. The rest of the time, she traveled on the backs of the two white tigers, sometimes on Bai Shu, sometimes on Bai Ji. She would never let Ye carry her on the journey, as he needed to be ready to handle any unexpected situations. She only got close to Ye during rest, mealtimes, and nighttime rest.
This is the hunting season for carnivores. Different predators can be encountered in the mountains and forests at any time. Although Atractylodes macrocephala and Bletilla striata can deal with most animals, there are some particularly ferocious animals that hide in the shadows. Several times, Atractylodes macrocephala that was scouting ahead was almost pounced on by a beast that suddenly jumped out from the shadows. Of course, in the end, they all became their food.
In the mountains and forests, wolves and lions are the wild animals that most like to hunt in packs, while hyenas often like to follow behind them and wait for an opportunity to strike. In such situations, Ye has to expend a lot of effort to drive them away.
Ever since Linni heard Aya's method of meditating on the Beast God, she had been constantly thinking about everything related to the Beast God while traveling. Whether it was based on the novels she had read before or the stories of this Beastman Continent, the great Beast God was omnipresent and omnipotent. She imagined that the Beast God must be a very powerful animal, and also a being somewhat like the Heavenly Dao, silently watching over the Beastman Continent, or perhaps sleeping. When someone violated the rules set by Him, He would bring down punishment; when someone did something useful to Him or this world, He might even bestow blessings. Anyway, it was all just a thought, whether it was right or wrong, as long as she dared to think about it, that was enough.
Five days later, they found a depression surrounded by caves. Ye said it looked like a small tribe. As they approached, they saw the orcs in the tribe in complete chaos, scattering and hiding in all directions. Linni was a little surprised; she had planned to rest in their tribe for a couple of days, so why had they all run away?
Ye went forward to take a look, then came back and said, "These seem to be the crocodile beast tribe that used to live in the large pool under the waterfall. I didn't expect them to have moved here."
Linni: Well, so it's the same person you chased away before. You big bad guy are back again. People are afraid you'll drive others away again. So she said, "Since they don't welcome us, let's leave and not bother them anymore."
Night didn't want to leave. The journey had been fraught with danger, and resting in the tribe for a couple of days would be ideal. He noticed that Linni had lost a lot of weight and insisted on entering the tribe to rest. They processed their prey and cooked something to eat by a puddle—Linni had to cook food and boil water every morning and evening, so she only ate some meat and fruit prepared in the morning for lunch. The three males felt sorry for her, but for safety and to save time, they had to make do for the time being. The three males skinned and swallowed the prey whole without cooking, which was convenient. Night tried to tear the prey into pieces before eating, so as not to frighten Linni, to aid digestion, and to be ready to fight at any time. Actually, according to Night's previous eating habits, he would transform into his beast form and swallow the whole prey, then find a place to lie down and digest it slowly. Now, that was obviously not possible. He once again realized that a female really couldn't have only one mate. During this time, he stayed by Linni's side without daring to look away for even a moment, fearing that the two stupid tigers might not be able to protect her and that she would be dragged away by wild beasts.
But Linni clearly didn't understand Ye's anxiety. While Ye was cooking the prey, she watched her reflection in the water with great interest. Her previously round face had indeed become a little thinner, and her chin was even more pointed. However, her skin was becoming whiter and more delicate. Even the acne marks she had before the college entrance exam had disappeared, and her skin was fair with a rosy glow. She couldn't help but feel a little vain: I've gone from a pretty girl to a beautiful woman!
Just as they were admiring themselves, footsteps approached from afar, breaking the silence between them.
When Linni looked up, she saw four male orcs cautiously and slowly walking towards them from the tribe. She quickly got back to Ye's side, and Ye gently embraced her, his lower body transforming into a snake tail that swayed gently as he looked at the orcs with an indifferent expression.
The four male beastmen stopped five meters away from them. The tall, fair-skinned middle-aged beastman in the lead said obsequiously, "Beast God above, may I ask the powerful snake beastman, what brings you to our crocodile beast tribe?"
Night said haughtily, "I'm just passing through your tribe. I'll stay here for two days and then leave." The four male orcs visibly breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Night's words: at least they weren't after their habitat again. Night continued, "Prepare a quiet cave for me, and don't let the orcs from other tribes disturb us."
The middle-aged orc nodded hastily, "No problem, I'll make sure my people don't bother you." After saying that, he carefully looked at Night until Night waved to him, then he led his people away in a flash.
