Chapter 1 Don't Hurt Her
Chapter 1 Don't Hurt Her
The car sped along the highway.
Yunzhi lightly applied the brakes, but the speed did not decrease at all.
"Honey, the brakes don't seem to be working..."
Her voice trembled, and beads of sweat poured down her forehead.
The car is now traveling at over 100 miles per hour. Her husband, her four-year-old son, and she is eight months pregnant.
Yunzhi dared not think about what would happen if an accident really occurred...
"How could the brakes fail? They were working fine when I was driving just now."
Ye Chengyan's voice rang out from the back seat, clearly tinged with panic.
Yunzhi barely managed to remain calm and control the car. "I told you last month that the brake system was worn out. Didn't you get it repaired?"
The car fell silent instantly.
Yunzhi felt a chill in her heart, knowing that Ye Chengyan hadn't gotten the brakes repaired. What would happen to the brakes then?
In the passenger seat, the woman's delicate voice trembled, evoking deep pity.
"Chengyan, what do we do now? I have an injury on my leg, what if..."
Yunzhi was lost in thought and glanced at Yu Baisu, whose eyes were red and brimming with tears.
Today, her whole family accompanied Yu Baisu to a neighboring city to have her leg checked.
Yunzhi was heavily pregnant, so she shouldn't have had to go through all that trouble, but she was worried about her.
Not wanting Ye Chengyan to be alone with his childhood sweetheart, Yunzhi insisted on following along.
"Don't be afraid, Su Su, I'm here."
Ye Chengyan reached out from the back seat and grasped Yu Baisu's already cold hand, offering gentle comfort.
"Aunt Su Su, Xiao Ze is here too. With Dad and me here, everything will be alright!"
Ye Ze's childish voice also rang out. He had just turned four and was inevitably scared when he saw such a scene for the first time, but he still pretended to be calm and comforted Yu Baisu.
Immediately afterwards, Ye Ze's little hand also reached towards the passenger seat.
Out of the corner of her eye, Yunzhi saw the three hands clasped together, and her heart instantly felt as if it had fallen into an ice cave, turning completely cold.
Why do they look more like a family of three, with Yu Baisu and them?
Ye Chengyan and Ye Ze's gazes followed Yu Baisu closely.
He didn't even offer a word of comfort to Yunzhi, who was under the most pressure.
Yunzhi's hands were trembling as she gripped the steering wheel. She glanced at her swollen belly and managed to regain her composure.
Her due date is in a month, and the prenatal checkup report shows it's a girl.
Her dream of having a son and a daughter was about to come true; she absolutely could not die!
"Yunzhi, don't be nervous. The speed will decrease once the fuel runs out."
Just as Ye Chengyan's words of comfort offered Yunzhi a sliver of solace, she was immediately struck by what he said next:
“If Su Su’s leg gets injured again, it will never fully heal. Don’t hurt her.”
To harm her?
Yunzhi's mind went blank for a moment as she looked into Ye Chengyan's icy eyes in the rearview mirror.
How could she possibly harm Yu Baisu?
She was sitting in the front row; she was heavily pregnant.
Would she really abandon her unborn daughter just to harm Yu Baisu?
Despite the excruciating pain in her heart, Yunzhi focused on driving, her face covered in cold sweat.
An hour later, the car slowed down, but remained at 60 mph and couldn't stop.
Ahead lies a winding mountain road, which is more prone to accidents, even plunging off a cliff.
You must stop before you reach the winding mountain road.
There are trees on both sides ahead, and the car isn't going very fast; hitting them will bring it to a stop.
But she was afraid that if she bumped into it, the child would get hurt.
"husband……"
An hour of intense driving had left Yunzhi exhausted.
She looked at Ye Chengyan in the rearview mirror with a panicked expression.
Ye Chengyan and Ye Ze exchanged a glance, their eyes, so similarly etched with gloom, as they simultaneously made a decision.
Ye Chengyan got up and squeezed to the front row, gripping Yunzhi's steering wheel and turning it hard.
The car quickly turned left, about to crash into the book on Yunzhi's side.
!
Yunzhi's pupils contracted sharply as she watched the tree get closer and closer.
child!
She instinctively tried to protect her stomach.
Before she could react, the car crashed into a tree, and her stomach slammed against the steering wheel.
The internal organs were squeezing the fetus, and intense pain surged through her body, causing Yunzhi's face to turn pale and making her unable to utter a sound.
"what--"
A piercing scream erupted from the passenger seat.
The windshield shattered, and shards cut Yu Baisu's arm.
At this moment, she was covering the wound on her arm, from which blood was gushing out.
"Susu!"
"Aunt Su Su!"
Ye Chengyan and Ye Ze exclaimed in surprise at the same time and quickly got out of the car to check on Yu Baisu's condition.
Yunzhi's face was deathly pale, and the intense pain made her vision go black in waves, but she still tried her best to reach out and touch her stomach.
But when Yunzhi placed her hand on the baby, she couldn't feel any fetal movement.
I'm so numb from the pain...
Yu Baisu, who was in the passenger seat, had already been carried out of the car by Ye Chengyan.
The father and son looked anxious, their faces identically cold, yet now filled with a panic that Yunzhi hadn't seen in a long time.
Ye Chengyan glanced at Yunzhi and saw that she was unharmed, which fueled his growing resentment.
He clearly let Yunzhi's side hit the big tree, so why was Susu the one who got hurt?
"Since you're not injured, just stay here and contact the traffic police. We'll take Susu to the hospital first."
Ye Chengyan glanced coldly at Yunzhi, picked up the slender Yu Baisu, and hailed a passing car.
"Don't leave me..."
Yunzhi's pale lips trembled slightly, and the pain in her stomach intensified.
Her trembling hand reached out of the car window, trying to grab Ye Chengyan's clothes, but she was too weak to hold on, and her voice was extremely faint.
As Ye Chengyan walked away, Yunzhi turned her expectant gaze to Ye Ze, who was walking behind her.
Xiaoze, save your mother.
When they first found out she was pregnant with a girl, Ye Chengyan and Ye Ze would watch over her belly every night, talking about it endlessly.
Ozawa, this is the little sister you've been looking forward to the most!
But Ye Ze's indifferent gaze swept over him, and his tightly furrowed brows were just like Ye Chengyan's usual impatient look.
"Mom is so lucky. She didn't get hurt even after all that. It was Aunt Su who got hurt."
He followed Ye Chengyan away, muttering complaints of dissatisfaction.
Yunzhi watched helplessly as the three of them got into a passing car, her cries for help fading away amidst her increasingly intense heartache.
She mustered her last breath and dialed 120.
All vision was completely lost in darkness.
In my dream, a sweet, soft-spoken little girl with pigtails smiled and waved to Yunzhi.
Yunzhi had never met her, but she knew her well.
This is her daughter.
Just as Yunzhi was about to hug her, she saw the little girl's figure quickly disappear.
"Goodbye, Mom..."
Yunzhi's pupils contracted as she tried to grab the little girl but missed.
"do not want!"
Yunzhi suddenly opened her eyes, and was greeted by the pungent smell of disinfectant from the hospital.
Upon seeing Yunzhi regain consciousness, the medical staff approached her with regret.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Yun, the highway is too far. By the time we brought you back to the hospital, the fetus had already lost its vital signs."
"We have already performed an induced labor for you."
Yunzhi's eyes were vacant as she desperately tried to understand the words "induced labor".
She touched her now flat stomach and it took her a minute to realize what was happening.
Her child... died.
"Where is my daughter?"
Yunzhi sat up, her body wracked with pain, her bloodshot eyes gleaming.
Medical staff opened the black plastic bag in the corner.
Yunzhi looked at her eight-month-old daughter, whom she had been longing for, lying in the same plastic bag as a pile of medical waste, and felt a dull, grinding pain in her heart.
After a long while, she looked up blankly, her face already covered in tears.
"Can you give my daughter back to me?"
