Chapter 39 The Price of Gluttony
Chapter 39 The Price of Gluttony
The churning lake water rippled and the triangular boar, which had been hit on the head, crawled out of the lake, shook itself, and after being soaked in cold water for a while, it calmed down a bit and stared at the giant that had suddenly appeared in front of it.
Zeta stood at a distance, not daring to attack rashly. After several battles with the predator monsters, Zeta knew that it would be difficult to suppress the monsters of this world by strength alone.
The giants that survive in the monster food chain have honed their survival skills. If they underestimate their opponents because of arrogance, they will suffer serious consequences.
Zeta wields a blue-bladed spear, its blade pointed at the behemoth, remaining vigilant. The Zeta Light Crossbow, a weapon Zeta acquired on Earth, has an unknown origin but resonates well with Zeta's power, providing him with weaponry assistance in battle.
The sharp horns on the giant beast's head were a clear sign of danger. Fighting this monster bare-handed was obviously not an advantage, so Zeta tried to use weapons to maintain distance and win.
The triangle was well aware of its advantages. The triangle on its head could be used as a sharp blade for offense and as a shield for defense, giving it an advantage against the giant who had no apparent protection.
Without a word, it raised its leg and charged towards Zeta, its sharp horns flashing. Even its natural predators wouldn't dare to take such an attack head-on, as the Triangular Boar had considerable confidence in its strength.
The behemoth charged fiercely, and Zeta, wielding his gunblade in both hands, held it in front, blocking the triangular boar's sharp horns and preventing it from advancing further. The rampaging behemoth and the giant summoned from another world, both beings powerful enough to flatten hills, clashed head-on with each other using their full strength.
The powerful collision was intercepted by a giant gun, and the shockwave from the collision of the two giant objects stirred up sand and gravel, causing the lake surface to ripple repeatedly.
The gravelly soil on the lake shore couldn't provide enough friction for Zeta's flat feet, so the triangular pig, which was trotting on the ground with its hooves, gained the upper hand and pushed Zeta backward with a second burst of force.
Zeta tried to resist, but he couldn't stand firm. He was using all his strength to deal with the giant beast's charge and couldn't break free for a while. Even if he stopped for a second, the triangular boar would rush over without hesitation and pierce him mercilessly with its sharp horns.
"Damn it, we can't even stand up! We can't exert any strength! Is there any way to solve this, Haruki? At this rate, we'll be pushed downhill." "How about trying to exert force from a different angle? Since we can't exert force on the ground, let's get the monster away from the ground too."
In a flash of inspiration, Haruki had an idea. Without much time to think, Zeta had no choice but to forcefully adopt Haruki's suggestion. The Pure Crystal of Courage within Zeta activated its charging, and the energy from the land enhanced Zeta's power.
Zeta stomped his left hind foot into the ground, stopping his retreat. He twisted the gun barrel with both hands, using the blade hole to block the monster's head and horns. He then gripped the gun shaft and butt with both hands, one in front and one behind, and lifted the giant beast off the spot.
With its head and horns stuck, it couldn't retreat at all. Its once-proud weapon had now become a fatal weakness, trapping it in a dilemma. Zeta lifted the Triangular Pig with the gun barrel, its four legs dangling in the air, making it even more panicked. It struggled desperately, relying on instinct to try and escape.
With no direct threat, Zeta could stand firm and unleash her full strength, powerfully flinging the trapped Triangle Pig into the air. The Triangle Pig, still struggling in the air, didn't even consider landing, finally crashing to the ground, rolling, and slamming into the sword bamboo before landing upside down.
With abrasions and muscle pain, the Triangular Pig felt a fear that went straight to its soul. It struggled to get up again, wanting nothing more than to escape. The giant in front of it filled the Triangular Pig with a sense of unknown fear, as if it were confronting a top predator, making it impossible to imagine the full extent of the other's power.
With its sharp horns bared, the triangular boar hissed threateningly at the giant before retreating. Zeta, energized by the Courage Crystal, was full of vitality. Gripping his gun in one hand, he stared intently at the distant behemoth, his sharp aura radiating. Whether to let it go or destroy it was not the question; the only thing troubling Zeta now was whether to release the monster back into the wild.
Ultraman does not depend on nature as much as humans do, so their understanding of ecological protection is not as profound. Ultraman warriors often cannot make up their minds about whether the consequences of their actions are beneficial to the ecosystem itself.
Zeta is unaware of the concept of a food chain and has no intention of preying on anything. Her current battle with the monster is more about helping her companions than about taking care of nature.
"We can't let that monster continue to run rampant, Haruki! The giant triangular boar has seriously disrupted the survival of other creatures, and its environmental damage is catastrophic. I beg you to eliminate it as soon as possible!"
Zeta's pause gave Sean a chance to approach and call out. Although he still didn't understand the situation with Haruki and the Giant of Light, solving the problem of the Tri-Horned Pig was clearly more important now.
The land's pain was pouring out to Sean; the desolate vegetation was filled with mournful cries. The silent communication could penetrate to the depths of his heart, and Sean knew very well that a surge of sorrow and anger was burning fiercely within him.
“Okay, I understand! I won’t hold back from now on.” Zeta, who was receiving energy from the Courage Crystal, could also feel the emotions from nature. Although the connection was very weak, Zeta was still certain that it was this monster in front of them that made everyone so angry.
Target locked, execution immediate. Zeta gripped his gun and strode forward, blue energy gathering at the blade. A beam of light slashed heavily towards the Triangular Boar's head, severing a horn and knocking it back. He then twisted his wrist for a second sweeping attack. Seeing the giant's fierce attack closing in, the Triangular Boar, gripped by fear, tried to raise its horn to defend itself, but its body was unable to respond.
The triangular pig's head injury made its thinking even more confused. Unable to think rationally, it could only let its primal instincts drive its actions. Without hesitation, it turned and ran. The triangular pig ran as fast as it could downstream, thinking that as long as it could escape into the forest, it could hide and survive being hunted.
The Triangle Pig's escape speed exceeded Zeta's expectations, but Zeta would not give up so easily. After crouching slightly, Zeta took off with a sonic boom, caught up with the fleeing Triangle Pig, pulled the mechanism on the gun bow a second time, and aimed an arrow at the river where the Triangle Pig was running.
The ice arrow condensed in mid-air, instantly freezing a large section of the river as it pierced the air. The triangular boars, which were walking on the river, were caught off guard by the aerial attack and their entire bodies were frozen solid, unable to take another step.
The blue light solidified again, and Zeta swooped down, landing beside the Tri-Boar. He swung his weapon with all his might, sending the frozen Tri-Boar flying into the air. Zeta pulled the trigger again, the gun blade flashing in his hand, tracing a Z-shaped fiery trajectory towards the sky. Zeta, wielding the gun with both hands, charged towards the monster, unleashing a flamethrower that utterly destroyed the behemoth in mid-air.
The behemoth, blasted away twice by the fiery explosion, crashed onto the riverbank upstream. Its charred body tumbled among the flowers and grasses before finally being propped up by sword bamboo and brought to rest in front of a small hill. The three humans, having dealt with their troubles, arrived here and hesitated upon seeing the smoking mountain of flesh before them.
A gentle breeze wafted by, carrying the aroma of roasted meat to Haruki's face. Having barely eaten all day, he couldn't help but swallow hard. "By the way, do you people in your world have experience hunting monsters?"
"Alright, why are you dawdling? Monsters are part of the food chain too, what can't we eat! I'm starving!" Unlike Yao Hui, Ajiu didn't care about saving face. She picked up a broken bamboo sword and used it as a skewer, then thrust it forward without hesitation to eat the meat.
Attracted by the commotion of the giant beast's landing, the Matsuo bears gathered together. They weren't afraid of the unrecognizable triangular pig before them, and seeing A-Jiu already eating, the Matsuo bears rushed forward to join her. Of course, the giant beast was large enough for everyone to have a full meal.
"This world is really crazy," Haruki said after taking a bite of the meat strip in his hand.
