Chapter 148: Sores
Chapter 148: Sores
I forced a smile and continued, "I don't want to be a burden to you anymore, and I don't want to cause any more conflict between you and your son because of me. I... I'd better leave."
Upon hearing this, a hint of pain and struggle flashed in Jiang Yichen's eyes. He said self-deprecatingly, "I knew it. No matter what happens to Yi Qing, you will still abandon me first."
"I..." I wanted to explain, but the words that came to my lips seemed pale and powerless. The next second, Jiang Yichen gripped my wrist tightly.
His eyes were firm, and his tone carried a hint of threat: "You owe me so much money, don't even think about leaving until you pay it all back."
I tried to break free from his grasp, but to no avail.
I took a deep breath and looked at him firmly: "Even if I leave, I will still send you money back regularly."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yichen remained silent for a moment, but he still did not let go of my wrist.
His eyes held a complex expression, as if he were weighing something.
Just then, as the group was arguing, a servant-like person rushed over.
"Young master, the old lady left a message saying that you and... that young lady should stay overnight at the Jiang family's house, and that she has already had rooms prepared for them."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yichen's eyes flashed with a complex expression. He turned to look at me, as if to tell me: Grandma is not in good health. If you go against her decision, she will be very sad.
My brow furrowed. The banquet had turned into such a scene that I didn't really want to stay any longer, but…
Thinking of how good my grandmother was to me, I really couldn't bear it.
After a long pause, I nodded slightly, indicating that I accepted the arrangement.
Upon seeing this, Jiang Yichen immediately released my wrist and turned to look at Grandpa Jiang and Aunt Jiang with a warning gaze: "Did you hear that? Grandma asked us to stay overnight. You'd better not lay a finger on her, or you'll face the consequences."
After saying that, Jiang Yichen grabbed my hand and left without the slightest hesitation.
We followed the servant to the room Grandma had prepared for us, and along the way, my tense nerves finally relaxed.
Where are we going now?
Jiang Yichen did not answer.
Jiang Yichen led me into his room and commanded in an unquestionable tone, "You'll sleep here tonight."
I pointed to the gray and white-toned room and guessed, "Is this your room?"
"Is there a problem?" Jiang Yichen raised an eyebrow and asked coldly.
I quickly shook my head, afraid of being scolded again.
I took a closer look at the room's decor; it was simple yet cozy, reflecting Jiang Yichen's taste.
My gaze inadvertently swept across the wall and I noticed it was covered with photos. Driven by curiosity, I went closer to take a closer look and was surprised to find many of my own photos. I was a little girl back then, with a bright smile.
I was extremely surprised and turned to look at Jiang Yichen, asking in confusion, "How did you get these photos?"
Jiang Yichen's eyes flickered slightly. He turned the photo face down, then gently took my hand and asked in a low voice, "Where's the gift Grandma gave you?"
I immediately forgot about the question from before, and then suddenly remembered that the gift my grandmother gave me was still in that old witch's hands. I quickly said, "It's with your aunt."
I turned around and was about to run to the old lady to ask for the jade, but Jiang Yichen pulled me back.
Where are you going?
"Go and ask for the jade pendant!"
Jiang Yichen simply smiled, took the jade pendant from the drawer, and handed it to me: "Here, take this back."
I gazed at that familiar jade pendant, my heart filled with mixed emotions.
I shook my head and refused, saying, "I can't accept it. You should keep it yourself. You can give it to her when you and Lin Nan get married, after all, it's a gift from Grandma to her granddaughter-in-law."
When I mention Lin Nan, my tone unconsciously becomes tinged with a hint of bitterness.
However, Jiang Yichen's face instantly darkened. He shoved the jade pendant into my hand and said in a forceful tone, "It's none of your business to make arrangements. You can keep this jade pendant as I say."
Jiang Yichen frowned, his face turning fierce, and said in a deep voice, "As long as the jade is here, you are here too; if the jade is gone, you shouldn't be living either."
I glared at him and quickly agreed, "Yes, yes, yes..."
His temper is unpredictable, and I'm really afraid that if I anger him, he might actually kill me.
My gaze fell on the bed, then I looked at Jiang Yichen and tentatively asked, "Where are you staying tonight?"
"Grandma arranged the rooms for the two of us, what do you think?" Jiang Yichen loosened his tie, a wicked smile playing on his lips, and said jokingly.
I pouted, picked up the blanket from the bed, and prepared to spread it on the sofa. "Then I'll sleep on the sofa."
Jiang Yichen rushed over and threw you and the blanket onto the bed. Then, he pressed down on you, his eyes filled with a hint of mockery: "I just promised Grandma I'd let her hold her great-grandson. You're sleeping on the sofa, how are you going to hold him?"
I tried to push Jiang Yichen away, but his arms were as firm as iron clamps, making it impossible for me to move.
I was a little angry and blurted out, "Jiang Yichen, you're going to marry Lin Nan soon, why don't you just have her give you ten or eight kids?"
Jiang Yichen's eyes narrowed, clearly displeased with my words.
He said in a deep voice, "You don't need to worry about these things. Just do your own thing."
My anger was completely ignited, and my voice rose several decibels: "How can I not worry? I was forced to be a mistress, but my child absolutely cannot be an illegitimate child! I cannot let my child grow up without a legal status!"
Jiang Yichen looked at me, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.
He spoke slowly, a hint of helplessness in his voice: "What do you think you can decide? Whether it's an illegitimate child or a legitimate one, it doesn't matter to me. What matters is that this child must be yours."
I froze, staring at Jiang Yichen's determined eyes, a strange sense of panic welling up inside me.
Could it be that in Jiang Yichen's heart, I and the child I have borne have already occupied an irreplaceable place?
I frowned, looking somewhat conflicted.
Jiang Yichen sighed softly. He smoothed my brows with his hand, pulled me into his arms, and said in a low, gentle voice, "Alright, don't think about these things anymore."
His tone carried an undeniable gentleness that made it impossible for me to refuse.
I ultimately chose to remain silent, feeling somewhat lost.
Jiang Yichen stared intently at me, his eyes revealing an indescribable emotion, as if trying to see through my heart: "Have you always thought I was an illegitimate child, which is why you look down on me?"
I was startled, realizing that my words might have touched a nerve with him.
I quickly shook my head and hurriedly explained, "No, I didn't look down on you. But..."
At this point, I suddenly stopped, because I knew that I had indeed used the words "illegitimate child" to humiliate him many times in the past, and he had always chosen to endure it, but his heart must have been broken beyond repair by me!
