Chapter 31 War
Chapter 31 War
He Yu sensed Mo's anger and knew the situation could no longer be resolved peacefully. His body tensed, bracing for battle. "Lord Mo, if I have offended you, I apologize. But I cannot stand by and watch her make a decision she may regret."
Mo sneered, his figure suddenly vanishing from the spot. The next moment, he struck at He Yu like a black lightning bolt. He Yu's eyes sharpened, and he reacted quickly, sidestepping Mo's attack with a narrow escape.
Mo's attacks were incredibly swift, each strike accompanied by a whooshing sound. Although both were eighth-tier beastmen, Mo had broken through to the eighth tier several years ago, while He Yu had only broken through two years prior, naturally making him weaker than Mo. He could only rely on his crane clan's innate advantage against snakes to barely evade the attacks.
The small courtyard wasn't suitable for fighting, so the two decided to leave, leaving Spirit Butterfly Town to avoid harming innocent people. After choosing a spot outside the town, Mo's body began to change. His skin became rough, scales covered his entire body, and his body rapidly expanded, eventually transforming into a gigantic black snake. His dark red vertical pupils flashed with bloodlust, his forked tongue danced in the air, and a dangerous aura lingered around him.
Crane Feather was slow for a moment. His body began to swell, and he grew wings. His feathers were as white as snow. When his wings were closed, they had become a huge crane.
The black snake that Ink had transformed into launched an attack, its body lashing out like a black whip towards Crane Feather. Crane Feather deftly evaded Ink's attacks with a flick of its wings, while simultaneously searching for an opportunity to counterattack.
As the battle progressed, Crane Feather began to use his aerial advantage, repeatedly swooping down from the sky to attack the giant snake with his sharp beak and claws. Meanwhile, Ink used his immense strength and agility to continuously try to entangle Crane Feather and drag him to the ground.
The battle was exceptionally fierce, with both sides searching for each other's weaknesses, attempting to deliver a fatal blow. However, as time passed, He Yu began to feel fatigued, his stamina gradually waning, while Mo grew stronger with each battle, seemingly possessing inexhaustible power.
Crane Feather suddenly changed tactics. He no longer engaged Mo in direct combat, but instead began to circle in the air. Suddenly, he let out a clear crane's cry, his body drawing a graceful arc in the air before swooping down on Mo with astonishing speed. Mo reacted immediately, quickly curling up to prepare for Crane Feather's attack.
However, Crane Feather did not attack Ink directly. Instead, just before it made contact with Ink, it suddenly changed direction and used its sharp claws to carve a deep wound on Ink's body.
Kemo reacted just as swiftly, biting down on the crane's wing. The crane lost its balance, fell from the sky, and transformed into human form.
The handsome young man clutched his right shoulder, feeling the deadly poison spreading rapidly. His face was pale, and cold sweat beaded on his forehead. Even the Crane Clan's powerful resistance to poison seemed powerless at this moment.
The giant snake looked down at him, its eyes devoid of warmth or pity. He Yu then realized that Mo was determined to kill him.
"Lord Mo, is it really necessary to drive them to annihilation?"
He struggled to his feet, his limbs weak from the toxins in his body. He began to muster all his strength, though every movement was accompanied by excruciating pain. He knew that only in this way could he find a glimmer of hope.
Mo looked at He Yu, seemingly sensing his change as well, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. But quickly, that surprise was replaced by an even colder killing intent. He knew very well that if he didn't end He Yu's life now, it would be an even more difficult battle once he recovered.
"Hmph." Mo simply snorted coldly.
He Yu's heart sank; he understood that this meant no intention of negotiation. Tiny white specks of light began to appear around him, like twinkling stars in the night sky. These specks gradually converged, forming a powerful energy. It was a miniature crane, his final and strongest attack.
The tension in the air reached its peak, like a taut string about to snap. The standoff between the two sides resembled a tense situation, ready to erupt at any moment.
However, at that moment, a deafening tiger's roar came from afar, a sound full of wild power that made the air on the entire battlefield tremble.
The familiar tiger's roar attracted the giant snake's attention, and a hint of doubt flashed in its cold pupils. It recognized that roar; hadn't it led it in another direction before?
He Yu seized the opportunity, and the miniature crane burst forth with dazzling light, enveloping his entire body. Its speed increased rapidly, eventually transforming into a streak of white light and disappearing into the depths of the forest.
Mo coldly stared in the direction He Yu had fled, knowing he had missed his best opportunity. Moreover, he had more important things to do now. He retracted his beast form, transformed back into human form, and turned to disappear into the night.
Early in the morning, Chu Xinyao was awakened by Xiao Hua's knocking on the door. She opened the door sleepily, feeling a little dazed and unwilling.
"Xiaohua, what's wrong?" Chu Xinyao's voice was a little hoarse. Last night, she seemed to hear the roar of a tiger and the cry of a crane, which made her sleep poorly all night.
Xiaohua stood at the door, holding clothes in her hands, a hint of helplessness on her face. She pursed her lips, wondering what the owner was thinking, telling them to pack their bags and prepare to leave so early in the morning.
"Sister Xinyao, I'll pack your luggage. It'll be quick. If you're sleepy, you can sleep in the car later!"
Chu Xinyao shook her head, trying to clear her mind. "Why the rush? Wasn't the Flower Spirit Gathering supposed to end today?" she asked, puzzled.
Xiao Hua sighed, put down the clothes in her hands, walked to Chu Xinyao's side, and said softly, "I don't know either. Brother A-Da just said that Master has an urgent matter to deal with and told us to leave immediately."
Is something urgent? Could it be related to the tiger's roar and the crane's cry last night? But she wasn't sure if she had heard clearly. However, she was certain that Mo's arrangements were correct.
"Okay, I'll help you." The two quickly packed their luggage.
When Chu Xinyao got into the car, she didn't see Mo. Although Da Shu had told her that Mo was waiting for her outside the city, this still made Chu Xinyao wonder what could be so urgent that they needed to leave in such a hurry.
The convoy slowly began to drive out of the city. Today, the leopard princess had arranged for people at the city gate early on, determined to find Chu Xinyao. Just as Chu Xinyao and her convoy left, a leopard beastman at the city gate finally had a chance to question his beast brother.
"Brother, why don't you check that convoy?" he asked, pointing to the convoy heading out of the city.
His brother immediately covered his mouth, his voice laced with a hint of sternness: "Are you out of your mind? That's the Ink Serpent Tribe's caravan! Who would dare to mess with them so easily!"
The Ink Serpent Tribe is a name known to all on the Beast God Continent. A thousand years ago, the Ink Serpent Clan was a force to be reckoned with, their power and influence far surpassing that of ordinary tribes. Even today, a thousand years later, having long lost the protection of the Holy Maiden, the Ink Serpent Clan is not someone the small Cheetah Tribe can easily provoke.
All of this is because of the current patriarch of the Ink Serpent Clan, a genius powerhouse who broke through to the eighth rank before he was even twenty years old. He is hailed as the number one eighth-rank powerhouse of the contemporary era and is known as Lord Ink.
