Chapter 142 A Little Surprise
Chapter 142 A Little Surprise
Chu Xinyao's eyes flashed with surprise. She had heard from Yu Paopao that Hai Xing was a minor. She had always thought Hai Xing was a child. She did not expect that he was actually 17 years old.
Although in her eyes, 17-year-old Haiyan still seemed immature, at this age he was already on the threshold of adulthood and was no longer a child who needed to be carefully protected.
"Bubble, come on, he's just a kid, why are you making such a fuss?"
Fish Bubble's expression changed slightly. "Me, hold a grudge?"
"Aren't you holding a grudge?" Chu Xinyao tilted her head and smiled.
Fish Bubble's expression became even more complicated. She bit her lip and said, "Yes, I am bothered by it. I am bothered that you didn't give me a clear answer and instead got attracted to other people."
"Didn't I say I would seriously consider it?" Chu Xinyao couldn't get over that mental hurdle, feeling that she and Yu Paopao were always a generation apart.
"Consider it? Is this how you consider things? You tell me you're considering it while you're teasing the other orcs." Fish Bubble's emotions seemed to have reached a breaking point, and his voice unconsciously rose a few decibels.
He is now completely devoid of the maturity and composure he displayed when dealing with the seahorse tribe.
"Hey, keep your voice down." Chu Xinyao felt extremely tormented; he made her sound like such a jerk!
"Besides, I wasn't teasing any other orcs, it was just for fun. From now on, I..."
Chu Xinyao tried to explain, but before she could finish speaking, Hai Xing rushed in like a gust of wind and advised, "Brother, sister, don't fight over me."
His voice carried a hint of anxiety, and his innocent-looking eyes revealed worry.
Chu Xinyao and Yu Paopao were both stunned. They hadn't expected Hai Yan to suddenly appear, and it seemed he had misunderstood the reason for their argument.
"We didn't..."
"Sister, it's all my fault for making brother angry. Sister, please don't blame him," Hai Xing whispered, holding Chu Xinyao's hand.
Chu Xinyao felt a wave of helplessness. She gently patted Hai Xing's hand. "Xiao Xing'er, this isn't your fault. We were just discussing some things."
Yu Paopao's face darkened further as he stared at Chu Xinyao and Hai Xing's tightly clasped hands.
Hai Xing raised her head, tears welling in her eyes, her voice choked with emotion: "But, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't be arguing."
Chu Xinyao sighed and said with a wry smile, "Xiao Xing'er, this is not your fault, you don't need to blame yourself."
Upon hearing Chu Xinyao's words, Hai Xing's tears vanished instantly, replaced by a genuine smile: "Then don't be angry, sister. Getting angry makes you less pretty. Smile, sister's smile is beautiful."
His voice carried a hint of sarcasm, as if he were trying to ease the tense atmosphere.
"Brother, you too! How can a good male make a female angry!"
Fish Bubble, having reached her limit, said with a dark face, "That Hai Xing, right? Can you leave first? We still have some things to take care of."
"Ah, oh," Hai Xing's smile faded, and she looked at Chu Xinyao with some reluctance, saying softly, "Sister, then Xiao Xing'er will go out first. Please stop arguing."
His voice was full of concern, as if he was genuinely worried about their relationship.
Chu Xinyao no longer wanted to discuss the matter of becoming a couple with Yu Paopao. Seeing Hai Xing reluctantly leaving, she quickly called out to him, "Wait, Xiao Xing'er, I'll go out with you."
“Little female, you…” Fish Bubble’s expression froze. He hadn’t expected Chu Xinyao to continue avoiding the question.
"Bubble, I told you, I'll seriously consider it, so please stop pressuring me, okay?" Chu Xinyao turned to Bubble and said, her eyes pleading, hoping Bubble would give her some space.
"Okay!" Yu Paopao clenched her fists, suppressing the bitterness in her heart, and reluctantly agreed.
"Sister, have you two reached an agreement?" Hai Xing's voice was filled with anticipation, as if waiting for Chu Xinyao's affirmative answer.
"Hmm, that's about it." Chu Xinyao was a little tired; she needed to leave this oppressive environment.
The two people's conversation gradually faded away, leaving Yu Paopao alone. His mood was like a jumbled mess of emotions, a mixture of sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy.
With a "bang," he threw the box containing the pearls to the ground, and amidst a series of "clinking" sounds, he sat down helplessly on the ground.
For the next few days, Chu Xinyao, as before, intentionally or unintentionally avoided Yu Paopao. Her life seemed to have returned to its previous tranquility; she was either taking care of the three cubs with She Mo or chatting with Yu Zijing on the deck, enjoying the gentle sea breeze and the warmth of the sun.
Yu Paopao watched Chu Xinyao's figure from afar, his heart filled with mixed feelings. He felt disappointed because Chu Xinyao was avoiding him, but also relieved because Hai Xing didn't seem to have found an opportunity to get close to Chu Xinyao either.
As dusk began to fall, he stood on the ship's railing, his gaze piercing through the shimmering sea, his heart filled with complex emotions.
However, just as he was thinking this, he saw Haiyan skipping and running towards Chu Xinyao and Yu Zijing, seemingly holding something in his hand, his eyes shining with excitement.
"Sister, sister, look!" Hai Xing's voice was full of anticipation. He held his hands tightly as if hiding some treasure. When he walked up to Chu Xinyao, he suddenly let go of her hands.
Tiny specks of light flew from his palm, like twinkling stars in the night sky. They were fireflies he had caught on the island when they landed and stopped to rest.
These tiny lives were released in Haiyan's hands; they danced in the air, emitting a faint yet beautiful light.
"Wow, so beautiful!" Chu Xinyao exclaimed, her eyes reflecting the light of the fireflies, a delighted smile spreading across her face.
She reached out, wanting to touch these tiny, fluttering creatures; their light danced on her fingertips, as if playing and frolicking with her.
Yu Zijing looked at Chu Xinyao's smiling face with admiration in his eyes.
"Haiyan, you're so kind. These fireflies are so beautiful."
Hearing the praise, Haiyan smiled smugly. "Sister, do you like them? When I saw them on the island, I knew you would like them."
His voice was filled with anticipation, hoping that Chu Xinyao would be happy because of his little surprise.
Chu Xinyao nodded, smiling brightly, and said, "Of course I like them, Little Star, thank you, these fireflies are really beautiful."
The boredom of being on the ship for so long was eased by this little surprise. Just then, three cubs came over, and they chased after the flying fireflies together, their laughter echoing on the deck.
Watching this scene, Fish Bubble couldn't help but feel happy for Chu Xinyao's joy.
