Chapter 15 Sleep Dependence
Chapter 15 Sleep Dependence
The young man lying on the bed had just finished showering. His short black hair was half-dry, and he was wearing a dark gray silk nightgown, exuding an air of languor.
"Are you going out?" Ji Xingyi suddenly noticed that Jiang Lin was still wearing a black tracksuit and looked puzzled.
Jiang Lin was wearing sportswear to prepare for the death-defying dungeon, but he couldn't tell Ji Xingyi about this idea. A hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes as Jiang Lin thought to himself: This is troublesome; I have to find a way to get him away.
“You can’t sleep here tonight,” Jiang Lin said, feigning seriousness.
Ji Xingyi looked surprised, because Jiang Lin had refused him very few times: "Is there something you need?"
“I just feel that after so many years of treatment, you’ve recovered and don’t need me anymore,” Jiang Lin explained calmly without revealing too much emotion, “It’s time to make some changes.”
Ji Xingyi's face was extremely gloomy as he stood up and walked to Jiang Lin.
Even from such close proximity, Jiang Lin could feel the young man's warm aura.
Ji Xingyi: "Did my mother say something to you again?"
"No." Jiang Lin met Ji Xingyi's dangerous gaze directly: "Everyone knows, including yourself, that this kind of sleep dependence is abnormal. You can't expect me to spend my whole life... sleeping with you!"
Ji Xingyi recalled the few words Zhang Hui had casually said a few days ago, and a strange sense of irritation filled her chest. When she looked up again, her once bright eyes were now shrouded in gloom, as black as ink.
Do you want to be in a relationship? Or even get married?
The question she wanted to ask ultimately remained on Ji Xingyi's lips.
His lips trembled almost imperceptibly; he was afraid.
I'm afraid of getting answers I don't want to hear.
This is a topic that Ji Xingyi has always avoided.
We met in our youth and became friends in times of hardship.
But life is still long.
When you grow up, find someone else to marry and have children.
Ji Xingyi tried hard to suppress the negative emotions surging in his heart, and didn't even dare to look at the young man again before turning around and leaving.
Jiang Lin glanced at the young man's somewhat forlorn figure, his eyes flashing slightly, and then turned around to take out his phone.
The countdown on the screen has 12 seconds left!
Just as Jiang Lin breathed a sigh of relief, a loud door opening sounded behind him.
The young man returned suddenly and grabbed Jiang Lin's arm.
[10 seconds left!]
Three years!
The deep voice resonated in Jiang Lin's mind.
[8 seconds left!]
Ji Xingyi, radiating a fierce aura, pinned Jiang Lin to the bed. The force was so great that Jiang Lin nearly dropped her phone.
Give me three more years!
[6 seconds left!]
"Three years from now, whether it's marriage or anything else, I won't stop you!" The seemingly perfect young nobleman whispered, his eyes bloodshot, as if possessed.
[Countdown 4!]
"Jiang Lin! I'm begging you!"
Loneliness, vulnerability.
Beauty mixed with madness.
Ji Xingyi no longer concealed any of her emotions in front of Jiang Lin.
Jiang Lin's pupils contracted sharply. This guy was begging him with that face on his face. It was really going too far!
[Countdown: 3! 2! 1!]
[Login... An ominous night...]
[Note: Once players have completed the tutorial dungeon, the system will no longer provide any balance-enhancing items.]
The moment the countdown ended, an invisible force, seemingly from nowhere, assaulted Jiang Lin's soul. His mind went blank, and he once again felt a strange sense of being suspended in mid-air.
As if he had rolled over in the river of time, with a "bang!", Jiang Lin fell to the ground in a daze. Not only that, Ji Xingyi's weight of over 100 pounds also unexpectedly pressed down on him, causing Jiang Lin to cry out in pain.
Ji Xingyi shook her throbbing head and quickly stood up, only to be shocked by the unfamiliar surroundings. The overwhelming negative emotions she had been feeling were instantly replaced by a tremendous visual impact.
They were surrounded by an unfamiliar, desolate forest. The sky was shrouded in darkness, obscuring the moon and punctuated only by a few scattered starlight. The only building behind them was an ancient Chinese courtyard with black tiles and white walls. The black gate was tightly locked, and white lanterns hanging from the eaves emitted an eerie glow in the night.
Ji Xingyi was about to ask a question when he saw Jiang Lin's pained expression. He quickly reached out, but Jiang Lin slapped his hand away. Staring at his right hand that had been knocked off, Ji Xingyi stared blankly, his handsome brows furrowing slightly. For some reason, he felt a stabbing pain in his heart and involuntarily clenched his fist.
But as she looked up, Ji Xingyi suppressed all these uncomfortable feelings and tried to keep her tone calm as she said, "It seems like we've traveled through time?"
Even the world's most advanced technology couldn't teleport the two of them from their own villa to some unknown location. Right now, only the word "time travel" seems to fit the bill.
"It's not time travel, it's entering a death game." Jiang Lin's face was grim. He flung away Ji Xingyi's outstretched hand and staggered to his feet. He had considered that Death Soul Island would be exposed, but he hadn't expected Ji Xingyi to follow him into the death instance.
Recalling the system notification, Jiang Lin guessed that the auxiliary item probably referred to the mobile phone. In the previous dungeon, players could use their mobile phones to view map information, quest records, etc., which meant that in the dungeons after this, players would have to rely on their own memory.
"A game?" Ji Xingyi caught the key information and raised his hand in surprise to sense his surroundings: "This isn't the real world?"
Jiang Lin turned to look at the gate of the ancient house with white lanterns hanging on it: "No, this is a virtual world that is highly similar to the real world."
"You know?" Ji Xingyi's pupils shrank sharply, for only one reason: this was not the first time Jiang Lin had participated in the death game he had mentioned.
The conversation from the hospital flashed through Ji Xingyi's mind, and she blurted out, "Dead Soul Island?"
"Wait a minute! Is this the real reason you rejected me tonight?"
"So all those things you said were lies to me?" Ji Xingyi suddenly realized, her gloom vanished, and she nervously grabbed the young man's hand.
The man's eyes were burning with passion, and upon closer inspection, one could see a mixture of joy and anticipation.
Jiang Lin remained unmoved, and said in a teasing tone, "Yes and no. Even without Death Soul Island, these problems would have arisen sooner or later. Do you expect me to sleep between the two of you? I don't have a penchant for threesomes."
It was clearly a joke, but it felt like a bucket of cold water being poured over Ji Xingyi, chilling him to the bone. An indescribable feeling filled his mind, making him feel as if his heart was being squeezed. He wanted to argue, but he didn't know how to start.
"Let's go, let's get through this alive first." Jiang Lin strode towards the dark gate of the ancient house.
Ji Xingyi took a deep breath and followed Jiang Lin's steps: "If you die in the game, will you also die in real life?"
Jiang Lin: "I participated in the death game for the first time when I was in a coma after the car accident. There were 7 people in that instance, and only 3 of us, including Wang Zhe and Ding Xuehui, survived. In reality, the other 4 people also died."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Ji Xingyi asked incredulously. He had always thought that the two of them were very close and had no secrets from each other.
Jiang Lin: "I couldn't find any information about Dead Soul Island online. I'm not sure if telling you about this will bring any danger."
Ji Xingyi remained silent. Although Jiang Lin's explanation was quite reasonable, it was still a sign of distrust.
It felt like a small gash had been cut into my chest; it wasn't fatal, but it hurt a lot.
"You're unlucky too. At least I have a beginner dungeon to practice on." Jiang Lin put his arm around Ji Xingyi's shoulder and said, "Call me 'brother,' and I'll carry you."
