Chapter 190 A Lucky Life
Chapter 190 A Lucky Life
When the old butler saw the young master return, he gave a single glance, and the servants beside him quickly left the hall area.
Ji Wanzhi didn't even give Ji Xingyi a proper look, let alone stand up to greet him. She sat on the sofa and drank her tea by herself.
Lin's father smiled and asked with concern, "Xingyi, you're here so early? Why don't you stay for lunch?"
Ji Xingyi sensed something was amiss. Ji Wanzhi always came to the old house to ask the old man for something, and she would never bring Lin's father along in such situations. Today, the whole family had come, which seemed very strange.
Could it be...? Ji Xingyi looked at Lin Rui'an.
Lin Rui'an lowered his head in genuine guilt, but the girl beside him stepped forward on her own initiative.
The girl smiled gently: "Hello, Brother Ji. I am Lu Xingtong, and my father is Lu Zhenye. I visited the Lin family for Rui'an's birthday. I wonder if you remember me?"
Lu Xingtong's poised and generous demeanor pleased Ji Wanzhi greatly: "Xingtong comes to Rui'an's birthday celebration every year. I remember it all clearly, so he must remember it too!"
After speaking, Ji Wanzhi glared at Ji Xingyi. Ji Xingyi smiled coldly. He hadn't been allowed to attend Lin Rui'an's birthday parties since he fell ill at the age of 14. If they had actually met, it would have been seven years ago; who would remember?
Lu Xingtong thought Ji Xingyi was smiling at her, and her face instantly flushed. She wanted to maintain her dignified image, but she couldn't help but smooth her hair behind her ear to relieve the heat rising in her face.
"Brother, don't misunderstand. Xing Tong is my girlfriend now. Mom said she's bringing her to meet Grandpa," Lin Rui'an explained hastily.
What did I misunderstand?
When Ji Xingyi asked this question, Lin Rui'an was speechless and lowered his head even further.
"Brother Ji, it's all my fault, please don't blame Ruian!" Lu Xingtong stood in front of Lin Ruian, apologizing to Ji Xingyi with a guilty expression: "When I was on the phone with Ruian, I accidentally mentioned your relationship with Jiang Lin, and Uncle and Aunt found out. I'm sorry, if you want to blame someone, blame me!"
Lin Rui'an was so frightened that his heart almost jumped out of his chest. He tried his best to cover it up, but his girlfriend had just blurted it all out!
"Brother! No... I..." Lin Rui'an saw Ji Xingyi's cold gaze fall on him and was at a loss to explain, but he couldn't form a complete sentence in his mind.
"Hmph." Ji Xingyi sneered. If Lin Ruian had told Ji Wanzhi himself, Ji Xingyi would have thought Lin Ruian had some temper, but this was the answer, which was truly disdainful.
"Ji Xingyi! You like men and you expect your brother to apologize to you? What's wrong with you!" Ji Wanzhi immediately stood up to defend Lin Rui'an: "If I had known you would do something so disgraceful to the family, I should have..."
Ji Wanzhi suddenly stopped speaking, and Lin's father pulled her back with a serious expression.
"You should have killed me long ago?" Ji Xingyi's tone was so calm that even he found it unbelievable.
"Didn't you do this already? It's just that I didn't die."
In the one second it took to utter those words, Ji Xingyi actually managed to break free from the quagmire that had bound her for over a decade.
It's hard to describe the feeling, but it's just a sense of relief.
Ji Wanzhi's first reaction was shock, followed by panic and defensiveness. These mixed emotions distorted her facial expression, which eventually turned into anger. She shoved away her husband who was grabbing her and sneered resentfully, "That old man gave you such a good name! Lucky for life? You're really lucky!"
She went abroad to find a ski resort, drove her to a snow-covered mountain where no one could see her, and the weather forecast said there was a high probability of an avalanche. It was a sure death situation, but Ji Xingyi survived!
"Alright, alright! Don't argue in front of the children!" Lin's father shouted, worried that Ji Wanzhi might reveal all the secrets in a fit of anger.
"Mom, don't blame my brother! It's all Jiang Lin's fault! If Jiang Lin hadn't seduced my brother, he definitely wouldn't like men!" Lin Ruian didn't understand what the mother and son were saying from beginning to end. He just thought they were saying things in anger and wanted to speak up for Ji Xingyi, so he shouted it out without thinking.
"Snapped!"
The loud slap silenced the entire room, only to erupt again in an instant.
"Ji Xingyi!" Ji Wanzhi was so angry that she was about to rush up and hit her eldest son.
"Wanzhi!" Lin's father reacted quickly and restrained Ji Wanzhi: "This is the Ji family home!"
Lin Ruian tilted his head, looking at Ji Xingyi in disbelief. Lu Xingtong anxiously checked the injuries on Lin Ruian's face. Lin Ruian's left cheek was swollen, and there was blood at the corner of his mouth.
"Brother, you actually hit me! You've never hit me before, not since we were kids!" Lin Rui'an's eyes were red, and tears welled up uncontrollably from the corners of his eyes.
"Who I like to be with is none of your business," Ji Xingyi glanced coldly at Lin Rui'an, then turned to Lu Xingtong, Ji Wanzhi, and Lin's father: "And what does it have to do with you?"
"What's so great about that Jiang Lin? Don't you even want your parents and me anymore?" Lin Rui'an felt increasingly aggrieved as he tried to speak up for Ji Xingyi, only to be slapped in the face.
Ji Xingyi's smile faded, and for the first time, she revealed her true thoughts to her younger brother: "Lin Rui'an, I hate it when you're like this, knowing nothing."
Because Lin Rui'an knew nothing, all his words and actions came purely from his heart, without any scheming, yet they were more insidious than malicious plotting.
The worst part is that Ji Xingyi can't morally blame him because Lin Rui'an has no idea.
"Brother, what are you saying?" Lin Rui'an finally realized that something was wrong.
"Ji Xingyi!" Ji Wanzhi realized at this moment that her image in her youngest son's heart might collapse, and she hurriedly warned loudly.
Ji Xingyi really wanted to say that it wasn't that he didn't want this family, but that there was never a place for him in this family. But looking at Lin Rui'an's naive and foolish eyes, he ultimately didn't say it, and turned to go upstairs alone.
"Brother!" Lin Rui'an wanted to chase after him, but his father shouted, "That's enough, Rui'an!"
The old man lived on the third floor. After composing himself at the door, Ji Xingyi knocked and entered.
The old man inside was in good spirits. Despite being over sixty, he showed no signs of fatigue, and the heroic spirit in his eyes and brows suggested that he must have been a very handsome man in his youth.
"Please sit down." The old man sat down at the tea table and poured Ji Xingyi a cup of tea.
After Ji Xingyi sat down, he waited for the old man's questions.
After learning about her origins, Ji Xingyi struggled for a long time with her nominal grandfather and biological father. They eventually agreed to avoid discussing the matter further, continuing their grandfather-granddaughter relationship, but they couldn't prevent it from drifting apart.
