Chapter 138 Poisoned and powerless
Chapter 138 Poisoned and powerless
Yang Dongcha and Chen Xuezong hired the best lawyer in the capital for Ning Yao.
Due to numerous suspicious points in the kidnapping case, the lawyer secured bail for Ning Yao, allowing her to move freely outside the police station temporarily.
Ning Yao walked quickly out of the police station and hailed a taxi on the street. She was going to the hospital to see Madam Wen.
In the corridor outside the intensive care unit, Lian Qiran, Hu Mingyu, and Chen Xuezong were all present. Upon seeing Ning Yao, Chen Xuezong quickly stepped forward.
"Yaoyao, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Mr. Hu. How is the old lady? Has the antidote been developed?" Ning Yao answered Chen Xuezong's question first, and then looked at Hu Mingyu.
Hu Mingyu shook his head and said, "This poison is really strange. For now, we can only suppress the spread of the toxin, but this method can only delay it for two or three days. If we can't develop an antidote within three days, the old lady is probably in grave danger."
Ning Yao nodded and was about to walk into the intensive care unit when she was stopped by Lian Qiran and Hu Mingyu.
"I know medicine, let me go in and see what's wrong with the old lady."
“Miss Ning Yao, the old man has invited several world-renowned detoxification experts, but even they can’t cure it…” Hu Mingyu’s words were very tactful. What he meant was that if these internationally renowned experts couldn’t cure the poison, it would be a waste of Ning Yao’s time to go in.
"The old man instructed that no unauthorized personnel are allowed to enter the intensive care unit. It's not that we don't trust you, it's just that the old man is unwilling to risk the old lady's life before the matter is fully investigated," Lian Qiran said, recounting the instructions given by the old man.
Hu Mingyu and Lian Qiran were also thinking of Ning Yao's best interests. After all, she was still the prime suspect in harming Old Madam Wen. If something happened to Madam Wen after she went in, Ning Yao would be unable to clear her name no matter what.
Helpless, Ning Yao could only stop at the door of the ward and look inside through the small transparent square glass.
Grandpa Wen arrived at the hospital before her and was sitting by the old lady's bedside, holding her hand tightly. His back looked desolate and old, and there was no trace of the stern demeanor he had at the police station.
“Mr. Hu, please go in and tell Grandpa Wen that I am right at the door and that he knows I have medical skills. Please ask him to allow me to go in and see the old lady. Since no one else can do anything, why not let me try? Perhaps the old lady can be saved.”
Ning Yao and Hu Mingyu discussed it, still unwilling to give up the idea of treating the old lady.
Not to mention that the old lady is now the only witness to prove her innocence, even if she cannot prove it, the old lady is still Wen Tingye's biological mother. She cannot let Wen Tingye's mother be murdered like this, dying without knowing the truth.
"Okay, I'll go in and ask for you." Hu Mingyu nodded in agreement and pushed open the door to enter the ward.
The soundproofing in the ward was good; Ning Yao could only see the two people's lips moving through the small window, but she couldn't hear their voices very clearly.
A short while later, Hu Mingyu came out. He looked at Ning Yao and silently shook his head.
Ning Yao clenched her fists tightly, her heart sinking for a moment as Hu Mingyu shook his head. Although Grandpa Wen believed her, he was unwilling to let her contact the old lady, which meant he probably still had doubts about the kidnapping case.
"Mr. Lian, is there any news about Wen Tingye? When will he be back?"
"We've sent people to look for them, but there's no news yet."
Ning Yao stared silently at the closed door of the intensive care unit.
With both the old and the young having encountered misfortunes, and unable to help Wen Tingye, is she also powerless to help the old lady?
Ning Yao turned around, her back to the ward door, and the moment she looked up, she saw Chen Xuezong.
Chen Xuezong noticed Ning Yao's clear and bright eyes flicker slightly, and he understood what she was about to do.
In the instant before Hu Mingyu and Lian Qiran were on guard, Chen Xuezong swiftly struck, shoving both of them to the ground, giving Ning Yao time to rush into the ward.
Ning Yao slammed the door open of the intensive care unit and reappeared in front of Grandpa Wen.
When Old Master Wen heard the commotion behind him, and saw that it was Ning Yao who had barged into the ward without his permission, his face immediately fell, and his extremely authoritative voice rang out.
"How dare you barge in! Do you have a death wish?"
Anyone else would probably have been trembling with fear at Old Master Wen's angry rebuke, but Ning Yao stared straight at Old Master Wen, her eyes showing no fear whatsoever.
"Sir, didn't you say you trusted me when you were at the police station?"
"I believe you because there are many doubts in the case, and I can't determine whether it was you who did it or someone else." Old Master Wen held the old lady's hand the whole time and didn't let go.
"But you are a suspect, that's an indisputable fact. I'll let it go, but you still dared to barge in?"
"The old lady is now poisoned. If an antidote is not developed within three days, her life will be in danger. Why don't you give me another chance and let me try?"
"I only trust my own medical team, Miss Ning Yao. Please go back. It would be too undignified for you to have a bodyguard take you away." Old Master Wen did not listen to Ning Yao's words. In his eyes, Ning Yao was just a little girl who only knew some first aid techniques. What could she do if even his professional medical team could not handle the toxin?
Ning Yao wanted to say a few more words, but Old Master Wen gestured for her to leave the ward.
Hu Mingyu and Lian Qiran were still entangled with Chen Xuezong, and the three of them made a big commotion in the hospital corridor. Wen's bodyguard, Men, also rushed over after hearing the commotion and came to help Hu Mingyu.
"Xuezong, let's go." Ning Yao said in a low voice, indicating that Chen Xuezong didn't need to get entangled with the Wen family anymore.
Grandpa Wen disagrees with her treatment because of the kidnapping case. Even if she talks until she's hoarse, he won't change his mind. It's better to think of other solutions.
Ning Yao knew that Grandpa Wen was always a stubborn person and wouldn't easily change his mind once he made up his mind.
In this respect, Wen Tingye followed in the footsteps of his grandfather; the father and son were exactly alike.
Before leaving, Ning Yao paused slightly, straightened her back, stood next to Lian Qiran, and looked up at him.
"Mr. Lian, if you have any news about Wen Tingye, please be sure to notify me immediately."
After speaking, Ning Yao glanced at Hu Mingyu behind Lian Qiran, her voice solemn.
“I will find another way to deal with the old lady’s matter. Mr. Hu, could you please give me a sample of the toxin? Please do your best to save the old lady. If there is anything I can do to help you, please call me. I am on call 24 hours a day.”
Hu Mingyu stared at Ning Yao in silence for a long time, seemingly considering her request.
Ever since Ning Yao came to the hospital, he had been secretly observing her. He noticed that Ning Yao looked serious and didn't seem to be pretending to care.
As for the toxin sample, Grandpa Wen didn't say that Ning Yao couldn't be given it. For some reason, he always felt that Ning Yao was capable and might actually be able to help them.
"Okay, come with me. I'll go to the lab to get a sample of the toxins from the old lady's body for you."
