Chapter 168 Celebrating a Birthday
Chapter 168 Celebrating a Birthday
Mr. Jiang waved his hand, "I used up my vacation days for those two days and didn't go to work. I just stayed home and cooked. It's not too tiring to cook for the family."
"Alright," Jiang's mother said helplessly. It's just that we have a cook at home, and that's how it is. During holidays or when guests come over, everyone always wants to eat the cook's food.
Mr. Jiang didn't care. "Oh, it's fine. I'm used to it. It's good for me to rest for a couple of days and spend a proper birthday with the old lady."
Jiang Cha didn't think that much. Although she felt a little sorry for her dad having to work so hard again, she only had one thought in her mind: Great! Now I can eat Dad's cooking again!
She chuckled a few times, which caught her eye, and her mother glared at her helplessly, "You greedy girl, you don't even know how to care about your father."
Jiang Cha protested her innocence, "Mom, you can't say that to me. I also feel sorry for Dad, but Dad definitely has to show off his skills for Grandma's birthday, it's her 80th birthday."
Jiang's mother sighed helplessly, "Whatever, that's fine."
After working for two more days, Mr. Jiang asked for leave so he could rest at home for a day and recharge before cooking again.
On the day that Jiang's father cooked, the package containing the ginger tea also arrived.
She went straight to the community's express delivery store and came back with a box of vegetables.
Aunt Jiang was waiting for her by the car. "Xiao Cha, hurry up, it'll be late if you go too late."
Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang don't live in the same neighborhood as them; they live in another area. When the elderly couple celebrate their birthdays, their children always come to their house unless they book a restaurant elsewhere, so the elderly couple doesn't have to travel back and forth themselves.
Jiang Cha came running over, panting, "Mom, I'm here. I just wanted to pick up a package."
Jiang's mother was exasperated. She looked at Jiang Cha carrying a package and was puzzled. "You know, you could have just come back to pick up the package. Why did you have to go at this time?"
Jiang Cha put the package on the car seat and retorted to her mother, "That's not how it is, Mom. This package will definitely come in handy for Grandma's birthday later."
Father Jiang became curious and turned around from the driver's seat. "What did you buy? Is it a gift for your grandma?"
Jiang Cha grunted twice, "I've prepared Grandma's gift. This is something else; you'll find out when the time comes."
Aunt Jiang shook her head, interrupting their conversation, "Alright, alright, Lao Jiang, hurry up and drive. It's getting late, so don't chat with Xiao Cha anymore."
After being reminded by his wife, Mr. Jiang stopped chatting with his daughter and turned to concentrate on driving.
Jiang Cha was quite excited as he held the package. He was sure his dishes would be a hit at the banquet after his dad's cooking.
She thought to herself with a touch of childish eccentricity.
After driving for half an hour, the car arrived at the entrance of Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang's residential area, and the three of them took the elevator up.
As soon as I entered, I saw that the living room was already packed with people.
"Oh, it's Xiao Cha and her family. Come in, come in and have a seat."
The others greeted Jiang Cha and the other two with delight, saying, "Oh, the chef is here! The kitchen can start preparing now."
"Why is Xiaochai mentioning a delivery box? Is this a gift for your grandma?"
"Little Cha, come sit here with Grandma. There are some melon seeds and candy here."
Amidst the calls of the crowd, Jiang Cha walked over to her grandmother and sat down in the seat next to her.
Grandma Jiang patted Jiang Cha's hair. "My dear, you haven't come over often lately. This is the first time I've seen you."
Jiang Cha shook her head, "Grandma, I'm too busy. I'll come and play every day from now on."
This made Grandma Jiang laugh. "Alright, alright, Xiao Cha, why don't you stay here and keep Grandma company for a few days instead of going back tonight?"
"Okay, okay!" Jiang Cha readily agreed.
Grandpa Jiang, standing nearby, said curiously, "Alright, alright, let Grandpa see what's in this package first."
Finally, she stopped keeping the ginger tea a secret and opened the package to reveal its contents. "Ta-da! These are the vegetables I specially ordered online!"
When the package was opened, everyone, including Jiang's mother, fell silent.
Aunt Jiang shook her head. "You, you insisted on picking up this package when you left this morning. I thought it was something important, but it turns out it was just groceries."
Uncle Jiang hesitated for a moment before asking, "Xiao Cha, why are you buying vegetables online?"
Aunt Jiang also asked, "We've already ordered all the vegetables for Xiaocha's family, why are you still buying vegetables online? Let me tell you, those online vegetable farmers are unreliable, it's best to buy them offline."
Grandma Jiang still dotes on the child. Instead of joining the others in talking about Jiang Cha, she picked up the dishes and looked at them, saying, "These dishes are quite good. Xiao Cha made a good purchase."
Jiang Cha suddenly felt like she had a helper. "Of course! Don't talk about me anymore. I bought this specially. Have you heard of those sleep-aid grapes that are all the rage online lately? This dish is from that shop, so it must be delicious!"
Middle-aged people who had never heard of "sleep-aiding grapes" were completely baffled. "What famous grapes? Grapes are grapes, why give them such a strange name? Xiaocha, you've been fooled by those online marketing accounts, haven't you?"
It was the younger children who called out, having heard of it to some extent.
My cousin said, "Ah, you mean the grapes that Qiuyu did on her live stream before? I really like that streamer, so I watched that live stream, but not for very long. Those grapes seemed to taste really good and could even help with sleep."
My cousin nodded, "I also saw it on some marketing accounts; it seems to say that these grapes are quite amazing."
When the younger generation in the family heard what the family members were saying, they understood. It must be something that's been trending online recently, so Jiang Cha went to buy groceries.
Finally, Grandpa Jiang waved his hand and said, "Never mind, I think this vegetable is fine. Your mother and I used to farm when we were young, so we can tell the difference between good and bad. There's nothing wrong with this vegetable. In the end, it's just a kind gesture from the child, so let's just add it to the kitchen as a side dish."
"Okay," Jiang's mother nodded when she heard her parents say that, and carried the delivery box into the kitchen.
Mr. Jiang was cooking in the kitchen when he saw Mrs. Jiang carrying a box in. He glanced inside the box and spotted a patch of green, and his brow furrowed.
"Why did you buy groceries? And you even brought them in a box. There are already quite a few groceries on the ground."
Jiang's mother shook her head helplessly, "This isn't something I bought, it's something Jiang Cha bought. Weren't you two chatting this morning? This is what she ordered from the package."
When Jiang's father heard this, he also found it amazing. "She's a kid who's never been to a vegetable market before. What good could the vegetables she buys online be?"
We usually buy all the groceries at home, and Jiangcha only cooks simple meals at home. Sometimes we even order takeout and never go to the market.
