Chapter 308: Making Breakfast
Chapter 308: Making Breakfast
Qiu Tianlei was delighted to see Yu Huailin return: "You took so long to make breakfast this morning, and my mom scolded me in bed."
Qiu Tianlei was simple-minded, just like Huailin. He kept complaining.
Tian Yumei quickly stepped forward to help Yu Huailin serve breakfast.
"Alright, Tianlei, let's eat! Young Master Yu got up so early this morning to cook for our family, thank you for your hard work."
Song Miqiu looked at the breakfast Yu Huailin had painstakingly prepared that morning, unsure whether to be moved or indifferent.
What was supposed to be a bowl of white porridge turned into a black, mushy mess. Even his favorite steamed buns were crooked and twisted, so hard you could crack walnuts with them. The side dishes were even worse; they were so black you didn't even know where to start eating them.
"What have you done? It feels like you've poisoned it."
Qiu Tianlei, who had been hungry all morning, saw the food and kept complaining about it.
Yu Huailin glared at him with displeasure, but Qiu Tianlei pretended not to see it.
Tian Yumei held her chopsticks, waving them left and right as if trying to pick up a cucumber. But when she saw the cucumber was topped with chili peppers, she backed away; she'd never seen cucumbers with chili peppers before. She then waved them right, wanting to pick up a radish, but the white radish was covered in black bits. She wanted a bowl of plain porridge, but the simple porridge was sticky and caramelized. It was clearly overcooked.
Tian Yumei hesitated to pick up her chopsticks, feeling that if she ate anything, she would surely lose half her life.
However, Tian Yumei was not as heartless as Qiu Tianlei. She gently put down her chopsticks and said to Song Miqiu, "Mother, I'm not hungry, so I won't eat."
Song Miqiu looked at the dishes on the table and couldn't bring herself to eat any of them; her chopsticks hung in the air.
"Is it not tasty?"
Is there even a question? Song Miqiu was also wondering whether she should eat it or not.
"Miqiu, this is something I made especially for you this morning." Yu Huailin handed the white porridge to Song Miqiu.
Qiu Tianlei looked on with amusement. Just by looking at it, you could tell it wouldn't taste good.
"Qiu Tianlei, weren't you very hungry this morning? Here, have this bowl of porridge." Song Miqiu saw Qiu Tianlei's gloating expression and felt uneasy. Even if he was going to die, he was dragging Qiu Tianlei down with him.
Qiu Tianlei was filled with regret; he should have controlled his expression.
"Mother, I'm not hungry. Besides, what is Young Master Yu making? I feel like I'll get poisoned and die if I eat it."
Yu Huailin looked like he wanted to eat someone alive, but it wasn't that exaggerated.
"Eat..." Song Miqiu forced Qiu Tianlei to eat.
Qiu Tianlei had no choice but to drink two bowls of porridge in a desperate attempt to swallow it down quickly. As soon as the porridge reached his throat, he felt nauseous. He managed to swallow it, but he was afraid of upsetting his mother.
With difficulty, he managed to squeeze out two words: "Delicious..."
Tian Yumei, watching from the side, felt great pain. She quickly patted Qiu Tianlei's back.
Even a fool could tell that this porridge must taste terrible.
"Miqiu, come and have a steamed bun." Song Miqiu was afraid when she saw the steamed bun, feeling that it hadn't fermented properly.
"Qiu Tianlei, eat quickly." Song Miqiu handed another bun to Qiu Tianlei.
Qiu Tianlei looked like he absolutely refused to eat, waving his hands repeatedly: "Mom, I'm full, I'm full."
"You're a man, how could you be full after such a small amount?"
As Song Miqiu spoke, she handed the steamed buns to Qiu Tianlei.
Qiu Tianlei took the bun with a death-defying spirit, took a bite, and felt his teeth were about to loosen, but he forced himself to chew and chew!
"Mother, I just remembered I have something to do. I'll be going now. I'm full." Qiu Tianlei felt he couldn't stay here any longer and had to leave quickly.
Qiu Tianlei took off running. Tian Yumei felt that she would be in trouble if she stayed there, so she quickly said, "Mom, I'll go help Tianlei."
Suddenly, only Song Miqiu and Yu Huailin were left in the room. Yu Huailin didn't think his cooking was bad at all and planned to give Song Miqiu another steamed bun.
Song Miqiu, still angry and wanting to live a few more years, quickly waved her hand and said, "I'm not hungry, you eat it yourself!"
Song Miqiu also ran away, leaving Yu Huailin staring blankly at the table full of food.
"It seems they haven't forgiven me yet. I'll have to think of another way." Yu Huailin said, taking a sip of the porridge he had prepared before the New Year.
"Pfft... How can this be so awful?" Yu Huailin looked at the table full of dishes. Surely one of them would be good. Yu Huailin tried them one by one and found that they were not just bad, they were incredibly awful.
For the first time, Yu Huailin doubted that there were things he couldn't do.
"Miqiu, tell me, what did I do wrong?" Young Master Yu pounded on the door, he was truly at his wit's end.
Qiu Tianlei's methods didn't work either; he was determined to get to the bottom of this even if it meant dying today.
"Stop knocking."
"Then come out and explain why you're angry. If you don't explain, I'll keep knocking on the door."
Song Miqiu was annoyed by the knocking on the door.
"Think about it yourself."
"That's why I asked you, because I don't understand it." Yu Huailin was truly at his wit's end.
"Young master, someone is at the door saying they want to see you and have something to give you."
A servant ran over and said respectfully.
Yu Huailin glanced at Song Miqiu's door and decided to go check it out first.
A thin, small servant handed Yu Huailin a letter and left.
Yu Huailin opened the letter, which roughly said that he had been seriously injured at the manor, but thanks to Liuli's selfless rescue, he was fine, but Liuli was injured. He asked the young master to come quickly.
Yu Huailin was somewhat worried, but he couldn't help but feel sorry for Song Miqiu.
Song Miqiu thought a lot while alone in her room. Yu Huailin knew nothing about these events from beginning to end, so she really shouldn't blame him. Thinking this way, Song Miqiu felt better.
"Miqiu, Miqiu, something's happened at the old eunuch's house. Do you want to come with me?" Yu Huailin called out loudly towards the door.
Song Miqiu looked very unhappy and said, "I'm not going. If you want to go, go by yourself."
She's not going to suffer at the old eunuch's place. Besides, Liuli is there, and she doesn't want to see her at all right now.
Yu Huailin hesitated for a moment, after all, the old eunuch was assassinated, and he must have some connection with it.
"Miqiu, I'll go check on her first, I'll be right back." Yu Huailin was very worried about Song Miqiu, but he had no choice but to go check on the old eunuch.
Song Miqiu pounded her pillow in the room: "I knew I was no more important than the old eunuch."
Song Miqiu, still fuming, opened the door to her room and watched Yu Huailin rush out, which only fueled her anger.
"He must have run off to see the beautiful Liuli." Song Miqiu grew angrier the more she thought about it, and slammed the door shut.
Yu Huailin quickly arrived at the old eunuch's residence, where the old eunuch hurriedly came out to greet him.
"Your Highness, you've come! My mother thought she would never see you again." The old eunuch's face was covered in tears.
