Chapter 30 A Narrow Escape
Chapter 30 A Narrow Escape
"They are disciples from Tiangang Sect, Fuyun Mountain, and Shenyi Valley. They must have fought before, but they were ambushed by something and all died here. And their cause of death should be similar to that of the disciples we saw earlier."
After examining the bodies, Linghu Xuan concluded that it seemed there were more dead than just these few; he might find more as they went further ahead.
But who exactly is hunting down the disciples of the seven sects? Not a single disciple from a prominent family has been seen yet. Could it be…?
That shouldn't be the case. There's no enmity between the seven factions and the aristocratic families. Why would they be so ruthless towards these new disciples?
"Is this the cause of death?" Tao Tao pointed to the red marks on the neck of one of the corpses. Linghu Xuan was shocked. "Don't touch it!"
Unfortunately, it was too late. The red mark instantly transformed into extremely fine threads, which detached from the corpse. In the blink of an eye, the surrounding area was covered with these red threads, and any slight movement would touch them.
Tao Tao's face turned pale, and he asked in surprise, "What is this?"
Linghu Xuan shook his head. "I don't know, but they must have died because of this. We shouldn't act rashly."
These threads are very strange, moving slowly in the air as if they were alive. Rather than calling them threads, they are more like a living creature.
The silk threads grew denser and denser, and wherever they went, whether it was grass on the ground or insects flying in the air, they withered and died, instantly losing their vitality.
It's absolutely terrifying; it's like killing someone without them even realizing it. No wonder so many disciples from other sects fell victim to it.
"Don't move! This is more terrifying than anything we've ever encountered." Linghu Xuan was sweating profusely, frozen in place, his mind racing, trying to find a way to break the deadlock.
He took out a small knife from his storage bracelet, infused it with spiritual power, and threw it out. The knife flew out and instantly turned into a puddle of liquid upon hitting the silk thread, dripping onto the ground.
This scene caused Linghu Xuan's expression to change drastically, and his heart immediately jumped into his throat.
Good heavens, even if the magic artifact is of low quality, it shouldn't be destroyed like this. What would happen if a person touched it?
In a short while, red threads filled the air around them and above their heads. Although they didn't get close, being trapped like this wasn't a solution. If they were suddenly attacked, they would surely die.
Now that Linghu Xuan was in this situation, he had no other choice but to hurriedly say to Tao Tao, "Quick, call out the senior. Maybe he is knowledgeable and knows what this thing is."
"I called out to him, but he ignored me."
"Isn't he your spirit? Then you are his master. How dare he ignore you?"
"Of course he dares!"
It's not like the little guy hasn't witnessed Bai Yan's prowess before; he's learned his lesson after suffering a loss.
The thought of Bai Yan sent chills down Linghu Xuan's spine, and he couldn't help but twitch his lips. "Yes, he really does dare."
But the problem is how they can get out of here; the silk threads are so dense that it's impossible to cross them.
Linghu Xuan looked around. The last straw was gone. The silk threads were slowly drifting in the air, a sight that sent chills down one's spine.
"Quickly check if there are any treasures in the storage bracelets, maybe they can save our lives." He had a sudden idea and took out all the storage bracelets he had looted, but unfortunately he couldn't find any useful magical artifacts even after turning them upside down.
But it's no wonder, most of the people who come here for trials are at similar cultivation levels, so what good treasures could they possibly have in their storage bracelets? If they did, they wouldn't have died so tragically.
Wouldn't that mean we're just waiting to die?
Linghu Xuan collapsed to the ground in pain.
"Big brother, let's go this way." Suddenly, Tao Tao reached out and poked his back.
Upon hearing this, Linghu Xuan turned around excitedly and asked eagerly, "Which way do we go?"
Tao Tao smiled and pointed to the ground, "From here."
“Right, these threads are all floating in the air, there can’t be any underground. But how are we going to dig? Are we going to use our hands? We’d probably be dead before we even dug the hole.”
Linghu Xuan was initially very excited, but when he thought about how digging would be a big problem, his handsome face immediately twisted into a frown.
"No, we don't need to dig it ourselves, we'll use this." Tao Tao patted the storage bracelet with a mysterious look, took out a spirit beast belt, and opened the spirit beast bag. Immediately, two black shadows flew out, and in the blink of an eye, two small pangolins appeared in front of them.
Linghu Xuan asked in shock, "What is this?"
"A pangolin."
"I know, I'm asking where you're from?"
"I caught it while you were asleep. I was originally planning to keep it to fill my stomach, but it might be of some use now."
The two pangolins trembled with fear at the mention of filling their stomachs.
Linghu Xuan couldn't help but twitch his lips. This was acceptable too.
However, with these two little guys around, digging tunnels was no problem at all. Under Tao Tao's coercion and enticement, the two pangolins started digging tunnels without delay.
Soon a small pit appeared on the ground. Seeing that it was effective, Linghu Xuan was overjoyed. "Great! We're saved!"
In less than half an incense stick's time, the pangolin had dug a small passage. Tao Tao and Linghu Xuan quickly went down and followed closely behind them, while keeping an eye on the surroundings. They only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that the thread would not extend underground.
"I didn't realize that Junior Sister Yue was so reliable in such a critical moment." Linghu Xuan gave a thumbs up; the feeling of surviving a disaster was truly wonderful.
However, Tao Tao didn't hear what he said at all. He was staring blankly at the two pangolins, his mouth practically drooling.
Stared at like that, the pangolin felt an unprecedented fear. It would occasionally glance back and realize that Tao Tao was about to lose his temper. It let out a scream in fright and began digging a hole frantically.
Linghu Xuan quickly reached out to block Tao Tao's view, and said with a smile, "We were able to escape death entirely thanks to them. If Junior Sister Le is really hungry..."
Before he could finish speaking, Tao Tao turned to look at him, making his heart skip a beat. "Don't look at me, I don't taste good."
Clang—
Suddenly a loud crash came, and they turned around sharply to see that the pangolin had dug through the passage ahead, and a pile of rubble had rolled down, blocking their way.
"Waaah..." Afraid that Tao Tao would blame them and eat them, they curled up in the corner, making whimpering sounds.
"Look how scared they are."
Linghu Xuan couldn't help but shake his head, completely forgetting who had just been so frightened by Tao Tao's staring eyes that their heart had jumped into their throat.
"Who goes there?! Who's there?"
Just then, a sound came from above the hole, followed by several sharp blades pointing straight at it.
