Chapter 12 Hospital
Chapter 12 Hospital
……
The hospital was in chaos, everyone was in a hurry. Sean pulled several people aside to ask about their situation, but none of them stopped to answer his questions completely before rushing off.
From their fragmented conversation, Sean only gleaned a general idea: something had happened at the emergency room, and the National Guard was suppressing it…
Sean didn't care about anything else; getting Rick away was the priority, so he ran towards the inpatient department.
450, 450, 450...
Because he often visited Rick, he was very familiar with the inpatient department. He quickly arrived at the fourth floor and found Rick's ward without any trouble.
Go straight into the ward.
Rick's ward was quiet and tidy. Unlike the noise and chaos outside, it was completely unaffected by the outside world, as if it were two different worlds.
Rick remained unconscious, lying peacefully in the hospital bed, with the flowers he had brought the day before placed on the bedside table.
"Brother, wake up! We need to get out of here..."
Sean went to Rick's bedside and gently patted his face, trying to wake him up.
"Wake up, listen, I need you to wake up now..."
But no matter how Sean tried, Rick didn't respond at all and showed no signs of waking up.
Sean was so anxious he kept rubbing his hair. He couldn't let his good brother just sit in the hospital and wait to die, but how could he get the unconscious Rick out of there?
Just when he was at his wit's end.
More commotion came from outside the ward, as if something had happened. Sean quickly got up and opened the ward door to see what was going on. He saw a group of people running past him in a panic, as if they were being chased by something deadly.
"Madam, madam, please help me."
Sean quickly grabbed a female medical worker who ran over.
"No, no."
The female medical staff repeatedly refused, broke free from Sean's hand, and ran with the crowd.
Sean had no choice but to watch them run away. Suddenly, he saw an empty hospital bed at the corner of the corridor.
Thinking about those two staff members who moved the body, they used this kind of hospital bed; it's actually a pretty good tool for moving people.
But before Sean could even reach the stairwell, he heard the voices of soldiers inside.
"Take care of them, take care of them."
It seems to be issuing some kind of order.
Sean ran to the corner and was about to push the hospital bed away when he saw several fully armed soldiers at the end of the corridor firing at more than a dozen unarmed civilians.
Da da da……
After a burst of gunfire, more than ten civilians fell to the ground, including doctors and medical staff in white coats.
Sean was stunned by what he saw.
How dare they?
How can you shoot at civilians?
He stared blankly as the soldiers kept firing at the men already lying in pools of blood, forgetting even to run away.
One of the soldiers saw Sean, who was terrified, raised his gun and aimed it at him, ready to fire.
Just then, the door to the passage behind the soldier was kicked open. As the soldier was about to pull the trigger to shoot Sean, he was grabbed by the infected behind him. The muzzle of his gun was pulled up a few points, and a series of bullets hit the ceiling, the lights exploded, and sparks flew everywhere.
Then more infected people emerged from that door and began attacking the soldiers.
Sean was startled awake by the gunshots and came to his senses. He saw that the soldiers were already entangled with the infected, so he quickly pushed the hospital bed away from the area.
Sean pushed the hospital bed to the door of the ward, opened the door, and went inside.
"Alright, bro, I'll take you out."
Sean planned to take Rick away directly.
Just as Sean picked up Rick's body, he suddenly saw the medical equipment and instruments next to the hospital bed.
He paused, unsure if Rick could live without the equipment.
Sean put Rick down again, walked around the bed to the equipment, squatted down to check the instruments and equipment, and saw if he could take them with him.
However, after fumbling around for a while, Sean realized he knew nothing about such advanced electronic devices. He turned to Rick, looking somewhat helpless, and said:
"what do I do……"
Bang...
The ward door was kicked open roughly, and Sean instinctively ducked under the bed, too scared to even breathe.
A soldier stood at the door of the ward with a gun. He scanned the ward and saw only a patient lying on the bed whose life or death was unknown.
"Hurry up, Corporal, let's go!"
Upon hearing the order, the soldiers turned around without hesitation and followed the group away.
……
Drip...drip...drip...
The medical equipment was beeping.
Hiding under the hospital bed, Sean was both anxious and terrified, and punched the ground in frustration.
He slowly raised his head to observe the situation outside. The soldiers had left, and there was no one in the corridor outside the open door.
Sean looked at Rick and saw that he was still unconscious and showed no signs of waking up.
“Listen, if you want to wake up, please wake up right now.”
Is it okay? Wake up!
Please, brother, give me a hint, anything will do.
Please, Rick.
Sean lay by the bedside, talking to Rick anxiously, begging him to wake up soon; he didn't know what to do.
Boom...
The sound of artillery shells booming came from upstairs, and the entire ward shook. The ceiling was cracked, and sand and gravel kept falling down.
At this point, the circuit seemed to be affected and lost power, and all the medical equipment lost power and automatically shut down.
Sean immediately sensed something was wrong and quickly checked on Rick's condition.
"This place is going to collapse."
"Retreat! Everyone, retreat!"
The shouts of soldiers could be heard from outside, and gunshots rang out continuously; a fierce battle was underway.
In the hospital room, Sean lay on Rick's chest, listening intently to his heartbeat, but heard nothing. He pressed painfully against Rick's chest, which no longer had a heartbeat, as if silently saying goodbye to his good brother.
The previously dense gunfire outside gradually thinned out, and the situation seemed to be becoming even more critical.
Sean stood up; he knew he couldn't waste any more time and had to leave immediately.
Sean sadly covered Rick's tightly closed eyes with his hand, lowered his head, and said his final goodbye.
"Okay, it's alright."
After getting up, Sean quickly composed himself; it was time to leave.
Sean pulled out his pistol and cautiously peered out of the doorway to observe the corridor. The corridor was filled with smoke and gunpowder, which was not only choking but also severely obstructed the view.
He saw masked soldiers slaughtering civilians in the distance. Turning around, he saw several infected people walking out of the other corridor, staggering and wandering in the stairwell.
Sean nervously aimed his gun at them, but seemingly due to the smoke, the infected didn't notice him, which reassured him somewhat.
Sean looked into the ward again from the doorway, but no miracle occurred; Rick remained lying motionless on the bed.
Sean looked at the infected people wandering in the corridor. He felt he couldn't let his good brother become food for the monsters, so he closed the door to the ward.
Just as I was about to leave, I saw the hospital bed that had been pushed over earlier, ready to be taken away by the police.
Sean had a sudden inspiration. He pushed the heavy hospital bed in front of the ward door to prevent infected people from entering the ward and eating Rick's corpse.
This was the last thing he could do for his good brother.
After doing all this, Sean saw that there were more and more zombies wandering in the passage. He covered his mouth and nose with a towel he took from the hospital bed, and left without hesitation.
