Chapter 56 Love is a light
Chapter 56 Love is a light
......
"Ho...ho..."
Dozens of walkers surrounded Rick, and if any of them caught him, his fate would be incredibly tragic.
In desperation, Rick could only crawl under the tank next to him, but the walkers behind him relentlessly followed and crawled in as well, showing no intention of letting him go.
"OMG...OMG......"
Rick frantically kicked away the male zombie that was grabbing his shoe, then crawled forward desperately.
His heart was pounding in his throat, and he was breathing heavily.
Unexpectedly, the zombies in front noticed the movement under the tank and began to crawl towards him.
Now that they're surrounded by zombies from both sides, and tank wheels and tracks on both sides, there's really no way to escape.
Bang...bang...bang......
Rick quickly pulled out his revolver and shot the nearest zombie.
However, the revolver only had six bullets, which killed five zombies in a row.
"Ho...ho..."
As the zombies kept rushing towards him from below, and his escape route was blocked from above, he was surrounded by roaring zombies approaching from both sides.
Rick saved the last bullet in his pistol for himself, rather than be torn apart alive by the walkers and suffer the agony of being devoured by a thousand corpses.
"Lori, Carl, I'm sorry..."
Rick pointed the pistol at his head, intending to end his life.
Looking up, they discovered that the hatch at the bottom of the tank was open.
Without thinking twice, Rick quickly climbed into the tank and locked the hatch tightly, thus escaping death.
Rick retreated to the wall, panting heavily, still shaken. It had been a close call; he had almost died there.
Turning his head, he saw a soldier's corpse lying next to him, and his wildly beating heart jumped again, but the corpse did not react.
"call......"
Rick breathed a huge sigh of relief; thankfully, it wasn't a zombie.
Then he saw a gun in the holster on the corpse, so he reached over and took the pistol from it, but this action woke up the sleeping corpse.
"Ho..."
The awakened soldier zombie slowly turned its head to look, letting out a low growl.
The man and the corpse stared at each other like that.
I recognized them by their eyes; they were the ones who wanted to eat.
Without thinking twice, in a panic, Rick fired directly at the soldier zombie's head.
boom......
After a gunshot, the soldier zombie's head exploded instantly, half of his skull was blown off, and thick blood and splattered brain matter...
The intense gunfire echoed in the cramped space inside the tank, and the shockwaves caused Rick to experience tinnitus.
He felt like his head was about to explode, and waves of intense dizziness washed over him. He tried to stand up, holding onto the inner wall, but he couldn't even stand steadily.
Rick fell to the ground, and in his daze, he saw that the hatch on top of the tank was also open.
He forced himself to stand up despite the dizziness and headache, and climbed toward the exit on top of the tank.
"call......"
Rick leaned half his body out of the exit above the tank, and it took a while for the intense dizziness to gradually subside.
"Ho...ho..."
The tinnitus gradually subsided, and only then could I clearly hear the howls of zombies echoing through the streets.
Rick came to his senses and saw his weapon backpack on the ground not far from the tank, being trampled under the feet of the horde of zombies.
Just as he was considering the possibility of taking the opportunity to grab guns and ammunition and break out of the encirclement.
Some of the walkers have already started to notice Rick emerging from the tank.
Then the nearby zombies climbed onto the tank and surrounded him completely.
"Ho...ho..."
The zombies around him kept howling and crawling toward him.
Seeing that the situation was hopeless, Rick had no choice but to abandon the idea of breaking out. He retreated back into the tank and locked the top hatch.
Rick sat slumped inside the tank, panting heavily.
Upon seeing the pistol he had just taken from the soldier's corpse, he quickly picked it up, removed the magazine, and examined it.
Fortunately, the magazine was still full of bullets, which gave Rick a little more confidence.
He looked up at the guy whose head he had just blown off, and silently apologized in his heart.
......
It was incredibly hot and stuffy inside the tank, and Rick was sweating profusely as he pondered how to escape.
"Sizzle... sizzle..."
Suddenly, a sound came from the radio station.
Interrupted by the static of the radio, Rick slowly looked up, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"Hello, you idiot."
A man's voice came through the radio, starting with a "friendly" greeting.
"It's you, the one hiding inside the tank. Are you comfortable inside?"
......
Several dozen kilometers away in the suburbs, at the West District Reservoir Park campsite.
Dell stood on the roof of the RV with a sniper rifle slung over his shoulder, looking around through binoculars. It was his turn to be on guard duty today.
Amy wore a pink top and white pants, which perfectly accentuated her figure.
She carried a small red bucket back to the campsite, which contained unidentified mushrooms that she had just picked from the woods.
Because she was worried about her sister Andrea, she had no heart to work and just picked a little bit before coming back to report.
I don't know why Andrea insisted on going into the city with me; in my opinion, it was too impulsive.
Amy harbored some resentment towards Andrea, feeling that she hadn't considered her feelings at all.
How's your luck?
Beside the campfire, Lori saw Amy walking towards her and asked her a question.
How do we know if this mushroom is poisonous?
As Amy spoke, she poured the dozen or so mushrooms from the small bucket onto the plate that Lori had brought out.
"I only know one safe method."
Lori saw that there weren't enough mushrooms on the plate, but she didn't say anything because she knew Amy was still worried about Andrea's trip to the city.
"Should we ask Sean when he gets back?"
Amy also sat down by the campfire and immediately understood what Lori meant when she heard her words.
"Yes."
Lori responded, then put the mushrooms down from the plate, picked up the bucket, and got up to leave the campfire.
I'm going to pick some more myself, otherwise we won't have enough for tonight.
Dell, I'm going out for a bit.
She called out to Dale, who was standing guard in the car, then turned to little Carl, who was playing beside the car, and instructed him:
"Honey, don't go out of Dell's sight, okay?"
"Okay, Mom."
Little Carl obediently responded to his mother's words.
"You too, don't go too far. If you see anything, just yell it out, we'll be there soon."
Inside the RV, Dale also gave Lori some instructions.
Lori nodded to Dale, and as she turned away, she muttered something under her breath:
"Understood, Mom."
Beside the campfire, Allen watched Lori walk towards the woods, lost in thought.
She was quite observant and often noticed unusual interactions between Lori and Sean. She felt that there must be a story between them, but she wasn't quite sure.
......
Lori walked through the dense forest, surrounded by the chirping of unknown birds and insects. Already somewhat paranoid due to her fear of zombies, this made her even more nervous.
Realizing he had gone a bit too far, he was about to turn back when a large hand covered his mouth and he was knocked down onto the grass.
"Well......"
Caught off guard by the sudden attack, Lori instinctively let out a terrified whimper before realizing that the person who had attacked her was Sean.
"Shh..."
Sean looked at the woman beneath him with burning eyes, then slowly released his hand from her mouth, looking at her with a smug smile.
"You scared me to death."
Lori, embarrassed and annoyed, slapped his hand several times while laughing and scolding him.
"I've waited so long, shouldn't I get some compensation?"
Sean leaned down again, staring straight at her, and said:
"I'll try to keep my voice down. Where did you go?"
"Amy went mushroom picking, I have to wait for her to come back."
Lori explained with a smile.
Sean eagerly lowered his head, and the two engaged in a heated verbal battle, completely absorbed in their exchange.
......
Suddenly, Sean stopped moving as he noticed the necklace around Lori's neck.
Their eyes met, and they both knew what it was.
Lori hesitated for a moment, then took off the necklace with Rick's wedding ring and placed it on the grass next to her.
Then he took the initiative to approach Sean...
In the woods, two green caterpillars intertwined and entwined, an unknown bird flapped its wings vigorously to court a mate, and the cicadas of late summer sang their hearts out, their cries sounding like weeping and lamenting.
