Chapter 326 How can I be pregnant and have no one to take care of me?
"Wow!" the two little girls exclaimed softly, their eyes wide with surprise.
Upon hearing the sound, the sika deer alertly raised its head, looked in their direction, and then gracefully leaped into the woods, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
"It ran away!" Li Xiaohua said with some disappointment.
Li Xiangyang smiled and comforted her, "You're already very lucky; seeing a sika deer isn't easy."
Wang Ying nodded, her eyes still brimming with excitement: "It's so beautiful, just like in a painting."
The three continued on their way and came to a high ground with a wide view. From here, they could overlook the entire village and the distant mountains, a spectacular sight.
"Brother, where is our village?" Li Xiaohua asked.
Li Xiangyang pointed into the distance: "Look over there, those houses are from our village."
The two little girls looked in the direction Li Xiangyang was pointing, and the village in the distance looked so peaceful and serene under the sunlight.
"So beautiful," Wang Ying said softly, her eyes filled with rapture.
The three of them stayed on the mountaintop for a while, enjoying the beautiful scenery, before starting their journey back.
"Brother, can we come again when school starts for the next break?" Li Xiaohua asked on the way down the mountain.
Li Xiangyang nodded with a smile: "Of course, I might even be able to take you to other places to play."
"Can my sister-in-law come along?" Wang Ying asked timidly.
Li Xiangyang thought for a moment and said, "It should be fine. We can bring the baby along after it's born, so the whole family can come together."
The two little girls laughed happily upon hearing this.
It was already afternoon when they returned to the village. Li Xiaoyun was waiting for them in the yard.
"You're back? Did you have fun?" Li Xiaoyun greeted her and asked with concern.
"Sister-in-law, we saw a sika deer!" Wang Ying exclaimed excitedly.
"Really? That's really lucky," Li Xiaoyun said with a smile, then looked at Li Xiangyang, "Are you tired? Do you want to rest for a bit?"
Li Xiangyang shook his head: "Not tired at all. The kids aren't complaining, so how can I, a grown man, say I'm tired?"
During dinner, Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying vividly recounted their experiences of the day, their excitement evident in their words.
Seeing the two little girls so happy, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun smiled at each other, their hearts filled with happiness.
"Oh, right," Li Xiangyang put down his chopsticks, "I'll take you back to the city the day after tomorrow. Pack your things."
"We have to go back so soon?" Li Xiaohua said with some reluctance.
Li Xiangyang patted his younger sister's head: "If we don't go back now, she'll miss school. Come visit again next holiday."
That night, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun lay in bed, talking quietly.
"Seeing Xiaohua and Wang Ying so happy today makes me happy too," Li Xiaoyun said, nestled in her husband's arms.
Li Xiangyang put his arm around his wife's shoulder: "Yes, children are simple-minded. They don't have many hidden agendas. They're happy when they're happy, and unhappy when they're unhappy."
"Mmm." Li Xiaoyun gently stroked her belly. "I really hope our baby will be born soon."
Li Xiangyang placed his hand on his wife's hand: "Yes, very soon."
The two smiled at each other, dreaming of a bright future in the quiet night.
Two days later, Li Xiangyang got up early in the morning to prepare to send Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying back to the city.
Li Xiaoyun also got up early to prepare a sumptuous breakfast for them, and even packed some dry food for Li Xiangyang to take with him on the road.
"Be careful on the road, and remember to visit your mother as soon as you get to the city," Li Xiaoyun instructed.
Li Xiangyang nodded: "I understand. You should rest well at home and avoid heavy work."
Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying stood in the courtyard, carrying their packed luggage, waiting.
"Let's go, let's go to the station first and take the bus to the county town," Li Xiangyang said.
At the village entrance, they ran into the old Party Secretary who was about to leave.
"Are you heading out?" the old Party Secretary asked with a smile.
“Yes, I’ll take Xiaohua and Wang Ying back to the city; they need to go to school,” Li Xiangyang replied.
The old Party Secretary patted the two girls on the head: "Study hard and become useful people in the future."
“Grandpa Party Secretary, we will!” Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying replied obediently.
After saying goodbye to the old Party Secretary, the three of them went to the roadside at the entrance of the village to wait for the bus to the county town.
A short while later, the bus swayed and pulled up. Li Xiangyang waved to signal the driver to stop.
There weren't many people on the bus, so the three of them found a window seat and sat down.
As the bus started moving, the village gradually receded into the distance, and Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying gazed reluctantly out the window.
"Brother, when will you come to see us?" Li Xiaohua asked.
Li Xiangyang thought for a moment: "After your final exams."
"Then I must get good grades!" Li Xiaohua said confidently.
“Me too!” Wang Ying retorted, not to be outdone.
Li Xiangyang smiled and patted the two little girls on the head: "You are both good children, I believe in you."
It was already noon when the bus slowly drove into the county town.
Dust swirled outside the car window as Li Xiangyang got out with the two girls and first found a small restaurant to have lunch.
"Brother, we're home. Mom will be so happy if she knows my sister-in-law is pregnant," Li Xiaohua said expectantly while eating noodles.
"Yes, Mother will definitely be happy." Li Xiangyang nodded, eager to share his joy with his mother.
The three of them quickly finished their lunch and headed towards Li Xiangyang's residence in the city.
"Mom, we're back!" Li Xiaohua shouted eagerly as she pushed open the door.
Footsteps sounded in the yard, and then Li's mother came out of the kitchen, her hands still covered in flour.
Upon seeing the three figures, a bright smile immediately bloomed on Li's mother's face.
"You're back!" Li's mother wiped her hands with her apron as she walked over quickly. She first hugged Li Xiaohua, then pulled Wang Ying over for a warm hug, and finally looked at Li Xiangyang with joy in her eyes.
"Mom, Xiaoyun is pregnant." Li Xiangyang blurted out, telling his mother the good news.
Upon hearing this, Li's mother was stunned for a moment, then overjoyed: "Really? Xiaoyun is pregnant? That's wonderful! I'm going to be a grandmother! Why didn't you tell me sooner, you silly child?"
Li's mother was taken aback at first, then burst into tears of joy. Wiping away her tears, she complained, but her words were full of happiness, "No, I can't wait any longer. I'm quitting my job and going back tomorrow. How can I be pregnant without anyone to take care of me..."
Seeing this, Li Xiangyang quickly comforted her, "Mom, don't worry. Xiaoyun is doing well now, and your eldest sister is helping out at home. This job opportunity is hard-won; don't quit because of this. Just take some time off to go back and visit her..."
Li's mother frowned: "But Xiaoyun needs someone to take care of her right now. How can I, as her mother-in-law, not be there for her?"
