Chapter 329: A Mixture of Helplessness and Touching Moments
A short while later, Li Xiangyang brought the food to the table. Li's mother and Li Xiaoyun took their seats, and Li Xiangyang smiled as he served them rice before sitting down himself.
Not long after everyone started eating, Li Xiaoyun suddenly turned pale and covered her mouth.
Li Xiangyang quickly got up, gently patted Li Xiaoyun's back, and asked anxiously, "Xiaoyun, are you alright?"
Li's mother also stood up, quickly walked to Li Xiaoyun's side, and urgently called to Li Xiangyang, "Xiangyang, what are you standing there for? Go get a glass of water!"
Li Xiangyang quickly got up to pour a glass of warm water and handed it to Li Xiaoyun: "Drink some water slowly, it will make you feel better."
After gagging, Li Xiaoyun took the water glass and sipped it slowly, secretly finding it amusing.
She usually doesn't react this strongly when she's alone. Today, it's probably because her mother-in-law was there that she was a little nervous, which is why she suddenly felt unwell.
"How about I cook you some light porridge?" Li Xiangyang suggested worriedly.
"No need, I'll be done in a bit," Li Xiaoyun waved her hand. "Don't make a fuss over nothing."
Li's mother nodded earnestly in agreement: "That won't do. I'll go cook you some porridge right now."
Before Li Xiaoyun could respond, Li's mother got up and headed to the kitchen.
"Look at you, your mother's already busy." Li Xiaoyun couldn't help but gently pat Li Xiangyang's hand and scold him.
Li Xiangyang, however, asked earnestly, "Are you alright? I'll go get some rice wine from Wang Ergou's house to calm your nerves. It's sweet and can help relieve morning sickness."
"Oh, I'm fine, really," Li Xiaoyun said helplessly. "Don't make things worse."
But Li Xiangyang wouldn't listen, and rushed out to get rice wine from Wang Ergou.
Li Xiaoyun sat alone at the table, watching the two busy figures, feeling both touched and amused.
A short while later, Li's mother returned with a steaming bowl of millet porridge, and Li Xiangyang also rushed back with a small pot of rice wine.
"Come on, Xiaoyun, have a taste." Mother Li pushed the bowl of porridge in front of her daughter-in-law, her eyes filled with anticipation.
Li Xiaoyun took the bowl and carefully tasted a sip: "Mmm, it's delicious. Mother's porridge is so fragrant."
Upon hearing this, Li's mother smiled with relief: "I'm glad you like it, drink more."
Li Xiangyang poured a small cup of rice wine and handed it to his wife: "Drink a little of this; it will help relieve your discomfort."
Faced with their care, Li Xiaoyun felt warm inside and stopped refusing. She obediently drank the porridge and occasionally took a small sip of rice wine.
After dinner, the three sat in the house chatting about everyday things and discussing the future.
Li Xiangyang felt a surge of happiness watching his mother and wife chatting happily.
“Tomorrow, I want to go to the fields and check on things,” Li’s mother suddenly said. “I want to see how the crops in our village are growing.”
“Okay, Mother,” Li Xiangyang nodded in agreement. “Tomorrow I’ll take you for a walk around and show you how much the village has changed.”
Li Xiaoyun chimed in, "I'll go too, it'll be good for me to get some exercise."
"How can that be?" Li's mother quickly waved her hand. "You can't overwork yourself right now. Just stay home and rest."
Li Xiaoyun looked helplessly at Li Xiangyang, hoping her husband would say something on her behalf. But Li Xiangyang also looked worried and said, "Mother is right. You should rest at home. I'll take Mother for a walk and we'll be right back."
Li Xiaoyun was both amused and exasperated, knowing that she couldn't reason with her today, so she had no choice but to agree for the time being.
But she had already made up her mind that she must find an opportunity to have a good talk with her mother-in-law tomorrow, so that she wouldn't be treated like a porcelain doll in the future.
As night deepened, before going to bed, Li's mother reminded Li Xiangyang, "You have to be careful, don't crush Xiaoyun."
These words made Li Xiaoyun blush, and Li Xiangyang nodded awkwardly.
After Li's mother went to bed, Li Xiaoyun finally breathed a sigh of relief and complained, "Look at you, telling your mother is one thing, but making the atmosphere so tense is another."
Li Xiangyang put his arm around his wife's shoulder and smiled, "Mother is just worried about you. You'll be fine in a couple of days."
Li Xiaoyun was still somewhat dissatisfied: "That's the only way to think about it. If it's like this every day, I won't be able to breathe."
Li Xiangyang gently stroked his wife's cheek: "Don't worry, I'll talk to Mom. But you have to understand her; it's her first time being a grandmother, so it's understandable that she's excited."
Li Xiaoyun nodded, leaned against Li Xiangyang's chest, and whispered, "I know, I just didn't want you to worry too much. I'm perfectly healthy, I'm not that delicate."
"Yes, I know you're capable." Li Xiangyang kissed his wife's forehead. "But you really need to rest more during this time and take good care of yourself and the baby in your belly."
Li Xiaoyun nodded with a smile.
The next morning, Li Xiangyang got up early to prepare breakfast for his mother and wife.
"Mom, don't worry, Xiaoyun is perfectly healthy," Li Xiangyang said to his mother as she cooked porridge.
Li's mother sighed, "I know, but I just can't help worrying. You young people probably don't understand, the early stages of pregnancy are the most crucial; a slight mistake could..."
"Mom!" Li Xiangyang quickly interrupted his mother, "Don't scare yourself. Xiaoyun is perfectly healthy, she'll be fine."
Li's mother patted her son's arm: "I'm not trying to scare myself, I'm genuinely worried. Look at you, your father passed away early, and I raised you all by myself. What hardships haven't I endured? I just don't want Xiaoyun to suffer."
Li Xiangyang understood his mother's thoughts and comforted her, "Mom, things are different now than before; conditions are much better. Don't worry, I will definitely take good care of Xiaoyun and the child."
As they were talking, Li Xiaoyun got up and went into the kitchen.
"Why are you up so early?" Li Xiaoyun asked, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
Li's mother quickly gestured for her to sit down: "Come and eat breakfast, while it's hot."
Looking at the lavish breakfast on the table, Li Xiaoyun was somewhat surprised: "So much? How can the three of us finish it?"
"It's alright, just leave the leftovers and reheat them at lunchtime," Li Xiangyang said with a smile. "Here, try some millet porridge I cooked. I added red dates and goji berries; it's perfect for you right now."
Faced with such meticulous care, Li Xiaoyun was both touched and somewhat unaccustomed to it.
But seeing the expectant looks in her husband's and mother-in-law's eyes, she couldn't refuse their kindness, so she obediently sat down and started eating breakfast.
After breakfast, Li Xiaoyun still couldn't persuade her mother-in-law and daughter-in-law to let her go to the fields with them, so she had to stay at home.
Watching her mother and husband walk away, Li Xiaoyun couldn't help but smile.
Although I felt somewhat helpless, my heart was filled with warmth.
She touched her still-flat belly and whispered, "Baby, look, you're not even born yet, and so many people already love and care for you. You must stay healthy and strong, so they don't have to worry."
