Chapter 342 You must accept it
Chapter 342 You must accept it
The next morning, Li Xiangyang got up early to continue catching forest frogs on the mountain.
"So early?" Li Xiaoyun asked, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she looked at her husband, who was already dressed.
"Yeah, they're easy to catch these few days. Once it gets cold, they'll start hibernating, and then they'll be hard to find." Li Xiangyang picked up a cornbread and took a big bite.
Li Xiaoyun nodded, got up and poured him a bowl of thin porridge: "Don't just eat dry food, have some porridge to fill your stomach."
"Okay." Li Xiangyang took the bowl, finished it in a few gulps, and then kissed his wife's forehead. "Be careful at school today, don't overwork yourself."
"You should be careful," Li Xiaoyun advised.
Li Xiangyang smiled, picked up his tools, and went out the door.
Once outside, he called out to Wang Ergou, and the two walked side by side toward the mountains to the east.
On a cool early autumn morning, dew dampened their trouser legs, but this did not dampen their spirits in the slightest.
Arriving at the wetlands to the east, the two crouched down and began to carefully catch the fish.
"Xiangyang, I think raising this thing shouldn't be too difficult."
Li Xiangyang nodded: "That's what I think too, but we have to figure it out gradually and see how it goes."
The two worked all day and didn't return to the village until evening, exhausted.
The harvest today was even greater than yesterday.
For several days in a row, Li Xiangyang and Wang Ergou were busy on the mountain catching forest frogs.
But by the fifth day, they found that the number of forest frogs had decreased significantly.
"Looks like we've almost reached the end. We've caught almost all the forest frogs in this area," Li Xiangyang said to Wang Ergou, looking at the half-empty bamboo basket.
Wang Ergou nodded: "Yes, but we've caught quite a few these past few days, enough for our needs."
The two decided that they would not go up the mountain to catch forest frogs after today.
Back in the village, Li Xiangyang gave some of the forest frogs to Wang Ergou and took the rest home.
Li Xiaoyun was washing clothes in the yard when she saw Li Xiangyang return. She quickly put down the clothes and went to greet him: "How was your day?"
"That's about it. We've caught enough these past few days." Li Xiangyang put down his bamboo basket and stretched.
"That's good, you should rest too." Li Xiaoyun looked at her husband's mud-covered clothes and hands with concern. "Go wash up, I've already prepared some water for you."
Li Xiangyang nodded and walked to the basin to wash his hands.
"Oh right, I have to go to town tomorrow," Li Xiangyang said while washing up. "I have an appointment with Uncle Wang to give a training lecture, and I should also go see Mom and Xiaohua."
Li Xiaoyun nodded upon hearing this: "Okay, then take more forest frogs with you, for Mom and Xiaohua to try, and also send some to Uncle Wang's family."
"That's exactly what I was thinking," Li Xiangyang said with a smile.
That night, as the two lay in bed, Li Xiaoyun, her head resting on Li Xiangyang's arm, softly asked, "How long will you be gone to the city this time?"
"It should only be a few days. I'll be back after the course ends," Li Xiangyang replied softly, stroking his wife's long hair.
"Okay, then take good care of yourself in the city and don't overwork yourself." Li Xiaoyun's voice was full of concern.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself." Li Xiangyang kissed his wife's forehead. "Don't overwork yourself at home either. If you need anything, ask your older sister for help."
Li Xiaoyun nodded and soon fell asleep in Li Xiangyang's arms.
The next morning, Li Xiangyang got up early and packed the things he was bringing into the city.
He specially selected more than fifty of the fattest forest frogs from the bamboo basket, put them into a specially made wooden box, and placed damp grass inside to ensure that the forest frogs could reach the city alive.
"Is your luggage ready?" Li Xiaoyun asked as she walked in carrying breakfast.
"Okay, everything's ready." Li Xiangyang took the breakfast, ate it quickly, and then stood up.
"Then be careful on the road." Li Xiaoyun handed him a small bundle. "This is some dry food I prepared for you. Eat some if you get hungry on the road."
Li Xiangyang took the bundle, put it in his arms, and pulled her into a hug: "Wait for me to come back."
Li Xiaoyun nestled in her husband's arms and nodded gently.
After saying goodbye to his wife, Li Xiangyang got on his bicycle, tied the wooden box containing the frogs to the back seat, and set off for the city.
The early autumn sun shone on the road, a gentle breeze caressed his cheeks, the trees on both sides of the road began to turn yellow, and occasionally a few fallen leaves drifted down with the wind.
After several hours of cycling, Li Xiangyang reached the city.
When he opened the door, his mother was busy in the kitchen, while his younger sister, Li Xiaohua, was doing her homework at the table.
Upon seeing Li Xiangyang enter, the two greeted him with delight.
"Brother! What brings you here?" Li Xiaohua excitedly rushed into her brother's arms.
Li Xiangyang smiled and patted his younger sister's head: "I have a surprise for you. Look, I brought something good."
He lifted the wooden box down, opened the lid, and the frogs inside immediately began to jump around.
"Wow, is that a toad?" Li Xiaohua asked curiously.
“These are forest frogs, very nutritious,” Li Xiangyang explained, then selected about twenty for his mother. “Mom, keep these; I’ll teach you how to prepare them. I’ll take the rest to Uncle Wang. We can chat about the training then…”
"Okay." Li's mother smiled and took the frog.
Li Xiangyang stayed at home for one night, and the next morning, he took the remaining frogs and rode his bicycle to Wang Jingyun's house.
When he got to the door, he knocked, and the door opened quickly.
Wang Ying stood at the door, and upon seeing Li Xiangyang, she immediately cheered, "Brother Xiangyang is here!"
"Ying'er, be good." Li Xiangyang patted her head and went into the house.
Wang Jingyun was reading when he saw Li Xiangyang arrive. He quickly put down his book and stood up, saying, "Xiangyang's here? Please come in."
Li Xiangyang placed the wooden box on the table: "Uncle Wang, I brought some forest frogs."
Wang Jingyun looked curiously at the forest frog in the wooden box: "Forest frog? This is a rare thing. You child, you came all this way, why did you bring such a valuable thing!"
Li Xiangyang quickly waved his hand and said with a smile, "Uncle Wang, please don't say that. I caught these myself on the mountain; it didn't take much effort."
At this moment, Wang Ying, standing to the side, looked puzzled and couldn't help but ask, "Dad, this forest frog looks just like an ordinary frog, so why is it so valuable?"
Wang Jingyun patiently explained, "Ying'er, these forest frogs are very different from ordinary frogs. Forest frogs are extremely nutritious. The females can be used to make hasma oil, a valuable Chinese medicinal material with many nourishing effects on the body. Wild ones are not easy to catch, and they are always in short supply in the market, which is why they are so precious."
Wang Ying suddenly realized, her eyes fixed on the lively frogs in the wooden box, full of curiosity: "So that's how it is, no wonder Brother Xiangyang specially sent it over."
Li Xiangyang scratched his head, a little embarrassed, and said, "Uncle Wang, please don't be so polite. In my heart, you and Ying'er are family. What's the big deal? It's just adding a dish to the family. You must accept it."
