Chapter 159 The Mystery of the Ruins: Exploration with Hidden Motives

The two groups separated. Zhang Peng, Li Ming, and Lin Wan'er proceeded cautiously, carefully observing their surroundings with each step. Cao Long, on the other hand, hurried away in another direction, his eyes gleaming with greed and resentment as he secretly plotted how to reclaim the treasure or find an even more powerful artifact to surpass Zhang Peng.

Zhang Peng and his two companions walked along a narrow passage. The walls on both sides of the passage were covered with various strange symbols and patterns, seemingly telling ancient stories. As Zhang Peng walked, he carefully studied these symbols, trying to find clues about the ruins.

"Zhang Peng, do you think these symbols might be related to the location of other treasures?" Lin Wan'er asked curiously, her eyes fixed on the symbols on the wall, trying to find some clues.

Zhang Peng nodded slightly. "Very likely. These symbols seem to follow a pattern, perhaps hiding some kind of guidance." As he spoke, he stopped and concentrated, trying to decipher the meaning of these symbols.

Li Ming warily surveyed his surroundings, gripping his longsword tightly in his hand, ready to pounce on any sudden danger. "No matter what, we have to be careful. Who knows what powerful guardian beasts might be lurking in these ruins?"

Just as Zhang Peng was concentrating on deciphering the symbols, a slight tremor suddenly came from the front of the passage. Immediately afterwards, the ground began to shake, and countless sharp rocks fell from the cave ceiling.

"Oh no, danger!" Zhang Peng shouted, quickly mobilizing his spiritual power to form a spiritual power shield above the three of them, blocking the falling rocks.

As the tremors intensified, the passage ahead was gradually blocked by rocks. Zhang Peng frowned, looking at the blocked passage, a sense of doubt creeping into his mind. "This tremor came too suddenly; it doesn't seem like a natural phenomenon. Could someone have done this intentionally?"

Lin Wan'er's expression changed slightly. "You mean Cao Long? He wouldn't be trying to trap us here, would he?"

Li Ming angrily brandished his longsword, "That despicable bastard, when I find him, I'll teach him a lesson!"

Zhang Peng pondered for a moment and said, "Don't rush, let's see if we can find another way out." As he spoke, he began to carefully observe the surrounding walls, hoping to find hidden passages or mechanisms.

Just then, Zhang Peng noticed that a stone on the wall was a different color from the surrounding stones. He walked over and gently pushed the stone, which slowly moved, revealing a hole hidden behind the wall.

"Quick, go this way!" Zhang Peng shouted. The three of them quickly crawled into the cave entrance, and the passage behind them slowly closed after they entered, and the tremors gradually stopped.

Meanwhile, Cao Long searched for treasures throughout the ruins. He rampaged through the ruins, forcibly attacking any restrictions he encountered, thus triggering numerous traps. On one occasion, he accidentally triggered a poisonous fog trap and nearly died from the poison, barely managing to escape.

"This lousy ruin has yielded no treasures, just a bunch of traps!" Cao Long cursed, his face full of exhaustion and anger.

Just as he was about to give up, he suddenly noticed a huge stone chamber ahead. The chamber's door was tightly shut, but a faint light shone through the crack, suggesting that some treasure was hidden inside.

Cao Long was overjoyed and quickly stepped forward. He carefully examined the gate and discovered some strange runes engraved on it. He tried to use his spiritual power to decipher the runes, but they did not react at all.

"Damn it, I can't open this door!" Cao Long said anxiously. He was unwilling to leave like this and began to search around for a way to open the door.

Just as he was becoming increasingly anxious, an idea suddenly came to him. He drew his sword and slashed at the door with all his might. With a loud crash, he cleaved a crack in the door.

Cao Long was overjoyed. He increased his strength and continued hacking at the gate. Finally, under his relentless attacks, the gate collapsed with a crash.

A musty smell wafted over him, and Cao Long eagerly entered the stone chamber. Inside, various rare treasures were displayed, radiating light. Cao Long's eyes were instantly drawn to these treasures, and he rushed forward frantically, beginning to snatch them.

However, the moment he picked up a treasure, suddenly all the lights in the stone chamber went out, plunging the entire chamber into darkness. Immediately afterward, a sinister laugh echoed through the chamber.

"Who? Who's there?" Cao Long shouted in terror, his voice trembling in the darkness.

No one answered him; only the eerie laughter echoed. Cao Long frantically brandished his sword, trying to dispel the darkness, but to no avail.

Suddenly, a dark figure rushed out of the darkness and pounced on Cao Long. Cao Long couldn't dodge in time and was struck by the shadow, flying through the air and crashing heavily to the ground.
