Chapter 48 Casual Chat: My Adorable Pet
Li Yuan hummed a little tune as she walked briskly into her home. Her short, curly hairstyle today made her incredibly confident; she felt like she could walk the cover of a fashion magazine.
As soon as I stepped into the house, I heard a burst of laughter. In the living room, two fluffy little balls were jumping around – a kitten and a puppy, having a wonderful time playing with her two beloved daughters, Li Shiqing and Liu Yixin. The kitten's bright eyes darted around, occasionally patting a small ball that rolled to its feet with its tiny paws; the puppy wagged its tail happily, a small doll dangling from its mouth. The children ran around, making the two little girls giggle with delight.
Li Shiqing, with her sharp eyes, was the first to spot Li Yuan standing at the door. Her big eyes widened instantly, and she pointed at Li Yuan, shouting, "Mom, Mom, why is your hair so short! You look like a cute little elf!"
Liu Yixin also looked up, covering her mouth with her little hand, looking surprised and amused: "Wow, Mommy seems like a different person, like a princess who stepped out of a fairy tale, but a short-haired princess!"
Just then, Liu Xuan came out of the kitchen, holding a small treat shaped like a dog bone, ready to feed the overly excited puppy. He spotted Li Yuan immediately, his eyes widening in amazement. He quickly walked to her side, put his arm around her waist, and exclaimed dramatically, "Oh my, honey, did you go to a magic hair salon? You've become so beautiful all of a sudden! I almost didn't recognize you. This new hairstyle is practically a fashion statement tailor-made for you! Seeing you here makes the house feel several degrees brighter!"
Li Yuan felt a surge of joy at the string of compliments. She deliberately tossed her head, her short, curly hair swaying playfully with the movement. "Of course! Don't you know who I am? I'm keeping up with the latest fashion trends, ready to set a new style benchmark for our family." As she spoke, she bent down and picked up the kitten that was trying to rub against her lap, gently stroking its fur. "What's going on with these two little darlings? Honey, is this your doing?"
Liu Xuan chuckled and scratched his head: "Honey, you work so hard every day. When I saw these two little cuties while picking up the girls from school, I couldn't resist buying them. Look how adorable they are, and they get along well with the girls. Our house will be even more lively from now on."
Li Yuan feigned a scolding, saying, "You always waste money. But since they're so cute, we'll take them in for now." She turned to her two daughters, "Sweeties, have you named the kitten and puppy yet?"
Li Shiqing spoke first: "Mom, I want to name the kitten Mengmeng because it looks cute, like a little fluffy ball."
Liu Yixin wasn't to be outdone: "Then I'll name the puppy Jumpy, because it's always jumping around and never stops."
Li Yuan smiled and nodded: "Okay, okay, Mengmeng and Tiaotiao, these are really nice names. But you must take good care of them, don't just play with them all the time."
"Okay, Mom!" the two daughters replied in unison.
Just then, the puppy, Jumpy, seemed to have gotten tired of playing. It plopped down on the ground, panting with its tongue lolling out. The kitten, Mengmeng, gracefully jumped onto the sofa, found a comfortable corner, and lay down, beginning to lick its paws.
Li Yuan sat down on the sofa, and Liu Xuan followed. He gently patted Li Yuan's shoulder and asked, "Wife, are you tired from work today? How's the recruitment for the New Ideas project going?"
Li Yuan leaned against Liu Xuan and sighed, "It's a bit tiring, but it went relatively smoothly. I discussed it with the higher-ups and found Su Yao, Lin Yu, and Wang Hao to handle the legal-related work for New Ideas. These three are all quite capable, and I believe they can do a good job."
Liu Xuan asked curiously, "Are these three people very capable? Why did you choose them?"
Li Yuan sat up straight and began to speak animatedly: "Su Yao is a very smart girl; she knows the law like the back of her hand. Lin Yu is very adept at handling complex legal matters; he's like a legal detective, always able to uncover hidden legal risks. Wang Hao is younger, but he's quick-witted and has many novel ideas; he's like a rising star in the legal world, and who knows, he might shine brightly in the future. After discussing it with the higher-ups, we decided that this group of people would be a super team in the legal field, and the legal protection for the new idea project would depend on them."
Liu Xuan listened with great interest, occasionally offering a few words of praise. Meanwhile, his two daughters were playing a new game with their kitten Mengmeng and puppy Tiaotiao, using a small box and some yarn balls to build a makeshift "playground" for the animals.
Li Shiqing held a small bell and waved it in front of Mengmeng, trying to attract its attention: "Mengmeng, come and chase this bell! There's a reward if you catch it!"
Mengmeng's eyes were fixed on the bell, her ears twitching. Suddenly, she pounced on it, but accidentally knocked over the little box. She got her paws tangled in the yarn ball and struggled on the spot. Her comical appearance made everyone laugh.
Liu Yixin pulled on Tiaotiao's rope, trying to get it to jump over a small obstacle: "Tiaotiao, jump over, you're the best dog!"
Jump Jump didn't seem to understand what she meant. He circled the obstacle a few times, then plopped down on it, tilting his head to look at Liu Yixin, as if to say, "What kind of new game is this? I don't quite understand."
Looking at the joyful scene, Li Yuan smiled and said to Liu Xuan, "Look, with these two little ones and these two little animals together, our house has become a combination of a children's playground and a zoo. But it's good this way; the children have companions and can learn to take care of small animals, cultivating their compassion."
Liu Xuan nodded in agreement: "Yes, when they grow a little bigger, we can take them for walks. That will definitely be a lot of fun."
In the evening, the family sat around the dining table for dinner. The kitten Mengmeng and the puppy Tiaotiao watched them longingly from the table, occasionally letting out pitiful meows.
Li Shiqing couldn't resist secretly taking a small piece of meat, intending to feed it to Mengmeng.
Li Yuan, quick-witted and agile, stopped her: "Honey, kittens can't eat human food, it'll be bad for their health. Mom will get them some special cat food later."
Liu Yixin chimed in, "That's right, Tiaotiao can't eat just anything. We need to be responsible little owners."
After dinner, Li Yuan and Liu Xuan helped their two daughters prepare a little nest for Mengmeng and Tiaotiao. The two daughters took out their old blankets and some soft cushions, laid them in the nest, and also put in a few small toys.
Looking at their earnest expressions, Li Yuan felt a surge of pride: "My little ones have really grown up; they know how to take care of small animals now."
Liu Xuan smiled and said, "It's all thanks to your excellent upbringing, my wife. Our family is now full of love and joy, all because of you, my wonderful mother and wife."
Li Yuan gently punched Liu Xuan: "You're so good with words. But I'm really happy today. My new hairstyle brings me a new mood, and there are two new members in the family. Life is getting better and better."
The family spent a wonderful evening in this warm and joyful atmosphere. Li Yuan knew that such happy moments would become the most precious memories in their lives, like a forever shining star illuminating their path forward. Whether it was the struggles in the workplace or the laughter at home, both were indispensable parts of her life, and at this moment, she cherished them all immensely.
