Chapter 56, Chapter 61: Children's Campus
The sunshine of Children's Day shone brightly on every corner of the campus. The school gate was decorated with lanterns and colorful balloons that swayed in the air like a group of mischievous little elves. A huge banner read, "Welcome all parents to participate in the Children's Day activities." The children's laughter and cheers rose and fell, as if they would lift the roof off the entire campus.
Li Yuan and Liu Xuan walked hand in hand towards the school with light steps. Li Yuan wore a light blue dress today, the hem swaying gently with her steps, like a blooming flower. Her short hair was casually draped over her shoulders, and a gentle smile graced her face, a smile full of anticipation for seeing her daughters. Liu Xuan wore a white short-sleeved shirt paired with light blue jeans, looking handsome and sunny. He carried two elegant bags, filled with Children's Day gifts for his daughters.
"Honey, do you think our babies will be so excited when they see us that they'll rush over to us?" Li Yuan said to Liu Xuan with a smile.
"Of course, especially Xiao Yixin. Every time she sees us, she's like a little cannonball." Liu Xuan imagined the scene and couldn't help but laugh.
They entered the school, which was bustling with activity. Various fun games and activities were taking place on the playground, including parent-child relay races, jump rope competitions, and ring toss games. Teams of children and parents showcased their talents, their cheers, laughter, and applause mingling together.
Li Yuan and Liu Xuan walked along, searching for their daughters. Suddenly, they heard a familiar voice calling, "Mommy, Daddy!" They looked in the direction of the voice and saw Li Shiqing, dressed in a beautiful pink princess dress with two pigtails, standing not far away like a little fairy, waving at them. Beside her, Liu Yixin was wearing an adorable cartoon tracksuit, her little face flushed, and her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"My little princesses, you look so beautiful today!" Li Yuan quickly stepped forward, knelt down, and hugged her two daughters tightly.
"Mom, look, our class is going to perform a dance later, and I dance really well!" Li Shiqing said proudly.
"Haha, my Qingqing is the best! What about Yixin? Does she have any shows planned?" Liu Xuan asked with a smile.
"I participated in a painting competition, and my painting is on display over there!" Liu Yixin said, pointing to the exhibition area next to the playground.
"Wow, our Yixin is a little painter too! We must admire her work properly later," Li Yuan praised.
They followed Li Shiqing to the performance venue. The area was already crowded with parents and other children. Li Shiqing ran to gather with her classmates to prepare for the performance. Li Yuan and Liu Xuan found seats and looked at the stage setup, which was full of childlike charm.
"Do you think Qingqing will be nervous?" Li Yuan asked with some concern.
"Don't worry, our daughter is so brave, she'll definitely be fine. She might even become the center of attention on stage," Liu Xuan reassured her confidently.
Soon, the music started, and the performance began. Li Shiqing and her classmates danced joyfully to the rhythm of the music; her movements were light and graceful, and her face was filled with a bright smile. Li Yuan and Liu Xuan clapped enthusiastically from below the stage, their eyes never leaving their daughter on stage.
"See, I told you, Qingqing danced so well! Her dance moves are just like her mother's back in the day," Liu Xuan said to Li Yuan with a smile.
"You're such a smooth talker, but our daughter is definitely talented." Li Yuan was overjoyed.
After the performance, they went to the painting exhibition area. Liu Yixin grabbed their hands and eagerly ran to her painting.
"Mom and Dad, this is the picture I drew. It shows our family playing in the park," Liu Yixin said, pointing to the painting.
The painting depicts a family strolling hand-in-hand in a lush green park, with colorful balloons floating in the sky. Although the brushstrokes are somewhat childlike, they are full of childlike innocence and love for family.
"Yixin, this painting is absolutely amazing! You've made us all look so beautiful," Li Yuan said, moved.
"Of course, I want to draw lots and lots of pictures in the future." Liu Yixin's little face was full of determination.
After strolling around for a while, they arrived at the school's food court. It offered a variety of delicious snacks and desserts, all prepared for the children and their parents.
"Wow, there's ice cream! I want ice cream!" Liu Yixin's eyes lit up when she saw the ice cream stand.
"Little glutton, you just ate so many snacks and then ice cream, aren't you afraid of getting a stomachache?" Li Yuan said with a smile.
"Mom, just a little bit, it's Children's Day today," Liu Yixin said, tugging at Li Yuan's hand.
"Okay, okay, then I can only have a small cup." Li Yuan reluctantly agreed.
Liu Xuan bought ice cream and some other snacks. They found a table, sat down, and enjoyed the happy time.
"Dad, how did you and Mom celebrate Children's Day when you were little?" Li Shiqing asked curiously.
“When I was a kid, I looked forward to getting new toys on Children’s Day, and then playing wildly with my friends in the fields. Unlike you kids now, you have so many fun activities,” Liu Xuan recalled.
"Where's Mom?" Liu Yixin pressed.
"Back then, my mom would participate in school choir performances and get to eat delicious candies. But there wasn't the abundance of food and the beautiful decorations we have now," Li Yuan replied with a smile.
After finishing their meal, they participated in some parent-child games. In the parent-child relay race, Li Yuan and Li Shiqing were in one group, while Liu Xuan and Liu Yixin were in another, and the two groups engaged in fierce competition.
"Mom, let's work harder and surpass Dad and the others!" Li Shiqing said with high spirits.
"Okay, we can definitely do it!" Li Yuan was also full of enthusiasm.
During the competition, everyone gave it their all, and laughter and cheers echoed throughout the campus. Although there was no winner in the end, everyone had a great time.
As the sun gradually set, the Children's Day activities came to a close. Li Yuan and Liu Xuan led their two daughters, who were still reluctant to leave, out of the school.
"I'm so happy today. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for celebrating Children's Day with us," Li Shiqing said gratefully.
“Yes, we’ll celebrate Children’s Day together again next year,” Liu Yixin said.
“Okay, Mom and Dad will definitely celebrate an even more wonderful Children’s Day with you next year,” Li Yuan said with a smile.
The family walked hand in hand in the afterglow of the setting sun, with the laughter of children still echoing in the schoolyard behind them. This Children's Day was filled with love and joy, becoming a beautiful memory in their hearts, forever treasured, like the brilliant sunset, warm and splendid.
