Chapter 1291: A Better Life
Chapter 1291: A Better Life
Two days after Evan’s discussion with Leoniel, on the 16th of April, with exactly 13 days remaining until Isolon’s Founding Festival, which the Demonic Hand was targeting, Evan returned to the Aelum Kingdom to speak with Idrilla.
He had initially planned to head to the Elven Empire and speak with Zaos first, but Zaos had been away when he arrived in Lustea and hadn’t left behind any information regarding his whereabouts.
Because of that, Evan had to put aside involving the Emperor in his plan for Isolon and deal with Idrilla’s matter first.
By as early as 9 a.m., Evan was already standing at the entrance of Marquis Holt’s estate in Eblor. The guards had been informed ahead of time about his arrival, so he was quickly welcomed into the estate before being led into the drawing room without any issues.
After a short exchange of greetings with Marquis and Marchioness Holt, Evan made it quite clear that he needed to speak with Idrilla alone, prompting her parents to excuse themselves.
Even though she was their daughter, Idrilla was now 21 years old and fully an adult capable of making her own decisions, so there was no real reason for her parents to insist on remaining.
After the Marquis and Marchioness finally left the room, Evan snapped his fingers and cast a spell that sealed all sound within the room.
"You’ve become a lot more... popular?" Evan began. "I didn’t read Kayla’s report in time, so I didn’t realise you’d become far more famous than I expected. There’s a whole list of accolades you’ve earned, magic competitions you’ve dominated, scholarly awards, and I hear you’re already heavily involved in managing part of Holt territory."
"That’s the bare minimum expected of someone born into privilege," Idrilla replied calmly.
Evan raised an eyebrow lightly at that. "Born into privilege, huh? True."
He looked around the lavish room before turning his attention toward the door, sensing the Marquis and Marchioness standing outside.
"Your parents seem genuinely worried about you."
Looking back at her, he continued, "Glad to see you got a good family this time."
"That I did," Idrilla replied with a light nod, a faint trace of satisfaction entering her tone, something Evan immediately noticed.
"I suppose Aidos understood the assignment and placed you somewhere good."
At Evan’s muttered words, Idrilla stared at him silently for several moments before asking, "You interfered with my reincarnation, didn’t you?"
"Yes, I did," Evan answered immediately.
Idrilla looked mildly surprised by how quickly he admitted it, and noticing her reaction, Evan continued, "I wasn’t trying to hide it. That would’ve been pointless anyway."
That much was true. From the very beginning, all the way back on Aramis 10,000 years ago, Idrilla had already known Evan came from the future.
Her Bounded Field, ’Graveyard of My Enemy’s Adversaries’, resurrected beings who had been killed by her targets, and during the summoning process, Idrilla received a portion of the Existential Records belonging to those targets, containing information about them, including their names, some of their skills, and most importantly, the dates and locations of their deaths.
Evan’s ’Adversaries’ all possessed dates belonging to a distant future, so it was only natural for her to realise he originated from that future.
After dying at Evan’s hands, she reincarnated and regained the memories of her previous life when her skills awakened at age 10.
From there, Idrilla began noticing many strange things about her new life.
The first was that she had reincarnated not on Aramis, where she died, but on Aidos, a world recorded within her memories from her previous life, as it was the world where the person who killed her had originated from.
She began searching for information regarding Evan and his ’Adversaries’, and although she didn’t discover all of them, she did come across several familiar names.
Most importantly, she learned about the son of a Duke from another continent named ’Evan Eris’, the exact name of the person who killed her in her previous life.
At that point, it would’ve been natural for Idrilla to suspect Evan had interfered with her reincarnation, but there was another person from the group she fought during her final battle whose name was also well known across Aidos: the goddess Artemisia.
Between Evan, who had been a child when she reincarnated and hadn’t even awakened his skills, and Artemisia, a Deity who had lived for thousands of years and possessed power Idrilla couldn’t begin to comprehend, her conclusions naturally leaned toward Artemisia being the one responsible.
She also began wondering whether this was truly her first reincarnation, and whether Artemisia hadn’t merely restored the memories of her life on Aramis after she reincarnated onto Aidos.
There were many possibilities, but Idrilla had no way of contacting Artemisia and asking her directly, so she decided to wait for the more realistic option, which was asking Evan himself.
The question then became how long she should wait before asking Evan about it.
She estimated Evan’s age during the time she first met him and compared it to his age by the time she reached this conclusion, then began monitoring major incidents across the Alpha Continent in an attempt to identify the event that could have caused him to travel back in time.
Eventually, she began hearing familiar names in the news, names belonging to the ’Adversaries’ she had summoned through her Bounded Field, such as Dominik Velak, Maude Gilatryd, Lizard Lord Bhak, and the White Dragon Faldo.
More and more of those names reached Idrilla over on the Beta Continent, and whenever they appeared, Evan’s name was mentioned in the same breath as the one responsible for their deaths.
Idrilla had already been certain before, but this only reinforced her conclusion that she was really in the same ’Aidos’ Evan had originated from, and within the same time period as well.
That discovery raised even more questions within Idrilla’s mind. She knew Evan had intentionally avoided using his destruction essence when delivering the final blow against her, since doing so would’ve prevented her reincarnation.
That made her wonder whether Evan himself had been involved in her reincarnation rather than Artemisia. But how could he possibly have accomplished something like that?
These thoughts lingered for some time, but she did not allow them to dominate her mind.
This was the new life she had finally gained, one completely removed from the previous life that had been filled with mistreatment, suffering, and enslavement.
Idrilla focused on living this new life to the fullest, indulging in everything that interested her while also fulfilling her responsibilities as a member of the nobility. She trained her magic, openly revealing her affinity for darkness while keeping her death powers concealed, and she developed this secondary affinity to the point where she distinguished herself in several magic competitions, making her family proud.
Years passed in that manner, and eventually, news of an incident involving Fallen Celestial Deities on the Alpha Continent reached her, one where Evan had allegedly summoned Artemisia.
When Idrilla learned of this, she took time to review the memories of her previous life, which at that point had become buried beneath nearly 10 years of memories from her current life. Revisiting them revealed that some of the Adversaries she had summoned against Evan had indeed been Celestials.
