Chapter 570 Ready to go
Chapter 570 Ready to go
"So that's how it is." Zhao Heng lowered his head.
"But shouldn't that guy be under house arrest by Rednos? How come he's on the glacier?" Zixuan asked.
Peruvieri lowered her head and pondered, "I don't know about that, but judging from what he said, it doesn't seem to be from the current era."
"So, he comes from the past?" Zhao Heng pondered.
“But anyway, thank you for helping us out this time. Otherwise, I really couldn’t think of any other reason to persuade those cautious officers.” Claire looked at Peruvier gratefully.
Peruvieri gently shook her head: "No need to thank me. On the contrary, I should thank you. After all, this is a regret that I was unable to change when I went back to the past. Promise me, Clover, that none of those remnants will escape this time."
“Yes, I can do it even without you telling me!” Claire nodded.
"Aren't you coming with us?" Zixuan asked.
"No, the paladins and the guards each have their own duties, and this alliance is a temporary uprising. Therefore, I must communicate with the young lady above to ensure that there are no obstacles to the subsequent operations."
Peruvieri explained that the "young lady" she was referring to was clearly an important figure in the upper echelons of Glacier.
"Besides, it's enough that you and the garrison are already on the front lines. If I join in, it might alert them. That's why I sincerely hope that you can personally put an end to this crime that has spanned 200 years!"
“I understand.” Clementine nodded seriously. “Leave it to us.”
"Speaking of which, what about Mo Yan and the others?" Zhao Heng suddenly asked again.
As soon as she finished speaking, Zixuan was reminded: "That's right, Mo Yan is one thing, but given Kailin's personality, she probably wouldn't give up any opportunity to help others."
Peruvier put one hand on her hip and said, "You two don't need to worry about that. They are resting in their room. After all, this time travel trip took us back for quite a long time."
Zhao Heng and Zi Xuan exchanged a glance.
Although they did not know how long Mo Yan and the others had taken Peruvieri back, the experience of "past time," even if real time stood still, would be no easy task in terms of mental exhaustion and the accumulation of memories.
"Alright, it's getting late. I wish you all the best in your military endeavors."
……
Night fell as expected, at an inconspicuous warehouse near the mine on the outer edge of the glacier. According to clues provided by the Memory Stone and intelligence verified by the guard regiment, this was one of the target outposts.
The wind and snow intensified compared to the daytime, turning the world a gray-white expanse, perfectly concealing the quietly gathering figures. Clementine, Zhao Heng, Zi Xuan, and more than ten elite guards in civilian clothes silently approached the warehouse under the cover of the snowstorm.
"How is it?" Claire asked the plainclothes security captain.
"Reporting to Miss Clover, we scouted this area for a long time during the day and found that although there were few people coming and going, they were all in a hurry and were very vigilant. There are three hidden sentry posts nearby, and we have found out the locations of all of them."
The captain reported in a low voice, his finger roughly tracing the outline of the warehouse and the sentry markers on the snow.
"The internal structure of the warehouse is unclear, but based on the heat source reaction, there are at least twenty people inside, and some heat sources are abnormally distributed, which may indicate the presence of detainees or special items. Our undercover agents approached to investigate, but found items that looked like children's clothing and toys in a nearby snowdrift. Fearing suspicion, they did not stay long."
"So the intelligence was accurate; this is indeed a place they use to transfer or detain children," Zixuan whispered.
“But the raised snow... does it also mean that there are already many children…” Zhao Heng said with some unease.
Hearing this, Clementine pondered for a moment: "There's no time to think about it anymore. Tonight, we must wipe them all out and rescue any children who might still be alive."
Her eyes, sharp as ice blades, swept across the dimly lit silhouette of the warehouse.
"Proceed according to the original plan. First group, responsible for eliminating the sentries, keep quiet. Second group, seal off all entrances and exits of the warehouse, including any possible secret passages—according to the clues from the Memory Stone, these types of strongholds often have emergency escape routes. Zixuan, Zhao Heng, and I will lead the third group to break in from the front."
"Yes!"
The well-trained guards responded in hushed tones, quickly dispersing and disappearing into the snowstorm. Soon, a few very faint muffled thuds echoed in the distance, before fading into silence.
The hidden sentries have been eliminated.
Clementine raised her hand, and a small cluster of eerie blue flame gathered at her fingertips, serving as both a signal and a source of light.
"Let's go."
Zi Xuan and Zhao Heng both nodded.
The two men, one on the left and one on the right, swiftly dealt with the guards hiding in the pile of debris by the door.
The warehouse door was unlocked, perhaps because the guards were confident in their hidden presence, or perhaps because some activity was taking place inside that couldn't be locked. Claire gently pushed it open a crack, and instantly, a pungent musty smell mixed with the odor of cheap tobacco, along with an indescribable odor, rushed out.
She glanced through the crack in the door. There were many boxes inside, making it look like a storage room. It looked quite ordinary, and she didn't find anything special.
She pushed open the door and carefully stepped inside. The warehouse was empty, even more so than it appeared from the outside, with only a few dim oil lamps hanging on the pillars, casting flickering shadows on the walls and floor.
"Nobody here?" Zixuan stepped over the threshold and looked around.
"Look carefully, there might be a secret room or hidden door," Zhao Heng said, and began to carefully tap and feel along the wall.
Claire walked to the center of the warehouse, her gaze falling on the ground. Dust and debris left fresh marks from her snow boots, but behind the deepest row of shelves, the floor seemed to have been cleaned, and the marks were newer.
"Mr. Zhao Heng, Miss Zi Xuan, there's something going on here," Claire whispered.
The two rushed over upon hearing the sound. Under the dim yellow light, a silhouette that was slightly different in color from the surrounding floor could be vaguely seen on the ground.
Zhao Heng tapped lightly, and only a hollow sound was heard.
"It's a hidden door."
"Is there a trap?" Zixuan wondered.
"give it to me."
Claire crouched down and gently touched the wooden board with her fingertips. The next second, scorching flames instantly erupted, startling the two of them. In just a moment, the wooden board was completely burned away.
“Miss Clover… this is a bit…” Zi Xuan stood aside, looking at the burnt hole in the ground, speechless.
“Time is of the essence, and besides, I… can get angry too.” Clementine smiled and then walked into the underground.
Zi Xuan looked at Zhao Heng, her gaze asking, "Won't this alert the enemy?"
Zhao Heng shrugged, put away his spear, and followed.
Upon entering the underground, a large iron gate came into view. Without thinking, Claire reached out again and melted the iron gate to create a gap large enough for a person to pass through.
This really scared Zixuan.
