Chapter 196 Vigilance
Chapter 196 Vigilance
Not everyone can recognize the origin of the Destiny Front flag, and the home of this world is slightly different from the home of the Scorpion Soldiers, so the flag is not exactly the same. (Patch)
Rosita watched Alan carefully put away the flag. She handed Alan the towel, and the two dried their heads by the river and walked towards the truck in the distance.
The evening sun illuminated the wilderness in an orange-red hue. Occasionally, the call of wrens could be heard from the surroundings. Various trees grew on both sides of the road, with palm trees mixed in the forest.
Abraham stood under the truck, smoking a cigarette boredly. He didn't dare to urge Rosita and Alan. As everyone knows, women take a long time to take a bath and wash their hair.
Eugene sat in the truck in a daze. Gabriel handed him wild fruits, but Eugene had no appetite to eat them.
We will reach Washington tomorrow. If Washington also falls, Eugene really won’t know what to do.
If Abraham questioned him then, what kind of lie would he make up?
Eugene was terrified by this.
"Sorry for the wait guys."
Rosita waved. Nothing makes a lady happier than having nice smelling hair.
Abraham boarded the truck and the group continued toward Washington.
Rosita sat in the passenger seat. The scent of her hair made Abraham a little distracted. He hummed a few times and said, "It smells like roses. It seems that the girl gave you something good."
Rosita smiled and said nothing.
In the back of the car, Alan heard Abraham teasing her, and she responded without showing any weakness:
"So what do you want? Cigarettes and beer? Or marbles, boy?"
"Wow! My bad, I don't want to argue with you." Abraham said with a laugh.
Alan rolled her eyes. Now she had completely let down her guard against Abraham and Rosita. Just because Abraham dared to jump out of the car to help her when she was facing the brutal zombies before, this guy must be a kind person.
"I'm a little confused. Don't you have any food in the car? Why don't you bring any supplies?"
Alan noticed the large and small bags, weapons and ammunition in the trunk of the car, and then she realized that these things were all hers.
"We have run out of supplies. We will go to the nearest town to search for them later."
Rosita frowned slightly as she thought of her current predicament.
"Whatever you want. I brought a few weeks' worth of food, would you like some?"
Alan grabbed his big bag from the car and took out a big watermelon from it. In the hot summer, what could be more comfortable than biting into a watermelon?
"You also mastered the planting technology?"
Eugene looked at the melon in Alan's hand in shock. People had already survived a winter after the disaster. Could this be a wild melon with green skin and no flesh?
Alan didn't say anything, but took out canned fish, canned corn stewed pork, and boxes of nuts. She shared the food with Gabriel and Ewing, and opened a box of self-heating rice for herself.
Gabriel looked thoughtfully at the outer packaging of various foods, on which were printed the simple red-letter propaganda of the Destiny Army.
"Shit, your camp must be very wealthy."
Abraham glanced at the rearview mirror. The big watermelon in Alan's hand made his tongue feel dry. It was not easy to eat some fruit after the disaster. Most of the wild fruits in the wilderness were bitter and astringent, and there was a risk of diarrhea if eaten.
Alan prepared a clean knife, she cut the melon into several halves, handed two halves to Rosita, and divided the rest between her and Gabriel Ewing.
"Thank God."
Gabriel hasn't had a full stomach for a long time. He lacks carbohydrates to supply the energy his body needs. High-sugar foods like watermelon may make him feel more comfortable.
"You should thank the great Principal Zhang and the workers at Tianming Front. It is their work that has made this possible."
Alan frowned and reminded Gabriel that she was not interested in religious beliefs at all, and the Destiny Front did not encourage people to believe in a certain religion. Everything people have is the result of their own hard work.
It has nothing to do with God's gift.
Gabriel was silent for a moment, then said with a dry throat: "Okay, thank you."
Alan then handed Gabriel a flyer to let him know the greatness of the Destiny Front. She talked about the story of the Destiny Front and how Principal Zhang led people to overcome many difficulties and establish the current Zuozhou.
Alan looked solemn and dignified, and looked more like a charlatan than Gabriel.
Gabriel was chewing a watermelon while staring at the contents on the flyer. His eyes were empty and his eyelids didn't move. No one knew whether he was daydreaming or reading the words carefully.
'If Washington falls, I will tell Alan that I will join their ranks.'
Eugene thought to himself.
Poor Abraham, he didn't know the meaning of his life yet. The lofty goals he was proud of were just lies made up by Eugene.
Abraham held the steering wheel with one hand and took big bites of the watermelon with the other hand, and the red juice covered his beard.
As a retired soldier and a patriot, he was not opposed to civilian armed forces like the Destiny Front. Ordinary people needed to survive, and if the Destiny Front was as good as Alan said, it would be a good thing for people.
People had a simple meal in the car to adjust themselves. They chatted for a while about the self-heating rice and hot dishes that Alan was eating. The truck kept driving until it got dark.
Before night fell completely, the military truck drove all the way to St. Petersburg before stopping.
The night after a disaster is not suitable for driving, as there are many zombies roaming around in the wild. Once you drive deep into them, they will use their corpses to block the way of the living, destroy their vehicles, and eventually trap you to death among them.
Abraham is in a good mood now. His mentality was not severely damaged as he experienced at the Ogre Station in the original plot.
So he prudently chose to travel during the day, since he was only one or two hundred kilometers away from Washington.
The streets of St. Petersburg were empty. Apart from abandoned vehicles and garbage blown everywhere by the wind, no one saw a single zombie.
These rotten bastards might be hiding in a building or in some alleys, but as long as they don't come into direct confrontation with everyone, they don't need to care.
Keeping quiet is an important part of post-disaster survival, Alan learned in school. Although she never had to do so, because her mission has always been to clean up the zombies with the team and fight on a small scale.
Abraham and Rosita are interested in a motel on the road, and they don't notice any zombies appearing in the parking lot.
Alan walked to the hotel front desk with a gun and found a bunch of keys. He threw them to Abraham, and Abraham took Rosita to search every room.
In the first room, there was a dead body of a man who had committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Flies were buzzing around the room, and there were splattered black blood on the bed and walls.
Abraham was silent for a moment, walked over and took the shotgun from the corpse, then locked the door and walked into the next room, leaving the final silence for the one who made the choice.
Only after every room had been checked and Abraham had arranged the rooms so that everyone could take care of each other did everyone feel at ease to move in.
