Chapter 106: Thirst for Power
Chapter 106: Thirst for Power
Catland, North Kotler region.
All the spiritual lives here have turned into monsters.
The "king" who was here thought the monsters were too noisy, so he turned them into dust.
The king released them from the dusty corners of history and told them that a new era had begun.
"What about the past era?"
"The past has been destroyed. The present is brand new, everything is new, including ethics, morality, and law," Wang said.
There is no oppression and no magic here.
Magic is seen as evil because it exacerbates differences between people.
The old history was destroyed in this injustice. People preyed on the weak and became like a jungle. Finally, an ultimate oppression came, the contradictions evolved to the extreme, and then everything ended.
The ancestors were rescued by the king with a historical mission.
So hundreds of years passed, the king did not age at all, and the descendants of the ancestors finally reached "our" generation.
"All these stories were told to us by the king."
The young man read the history book and then excitedly talked to his brothers and sisters. His eyes were shining and he seemed to be immersed in history.
"We are different from our ancestors. They are essentially old people, and they have deep-rooted ethical shackles. We don't."
A blonde girl raised her hand and asked, "Class monitor, what are the old ethical shackles here?"
The boy thought for a moment, gathered his thoughts, and replied, "Old humans have something called private property. This thing, oh no, it should be a concept that exists in their minds."
"So most of them are selfish and appropriate the means of production and reproduction..."
"But human nature is selfish!" A strange light flashed in the girl's eyes.
The squad leader said angrily, "Why do you think so?"
The other students also glared at them. They all felt that such thoughts should not exist in their minds and they had never even thought about it.
"How did you learn in elementary school? How come you don't know this?"
"Human nature itself is a false proposition! What is human nature? It is a concept reflected in people's minds. Therefore, it is historical and specific, with different meanings in different societies. There is no unified human nature that applies to all social forms."
"Even within the same society, people of different backgrounds have different human natures based on their material foundations. There are selfish people, selfless people; there are evil people, and there are kind people!"
"You insist that human nature is selfish. Even the primordial gods wouldn't dare to say that!"
The blonde girl nodded quickly in agreement, thinking to herself that she hadn't expected him to erase the source of her past.
The young man continued his rambling. "Take the theory of freedom often mentioned in theories about human selfishness, for example. In fact, freedom is determined by one's background. Those with good backgrounds have the freedom of good backgrounds, and those with bad backgrounds have the freedom of bad backgrounds. The freedoms of different backgrounds are even contradictory. If those with good backgrounds have the freedom to oppress those with bad backgrounds, then those with bad backgrounds don't have the freedom to avoid being exploited."
"Oh~ Brother Monitor, you're right! I really admire you."
"Ahaha...no such thing." the boy said shyly.
"Hehe. Man."
Just when the boy wanted to continue discussing the relationship between history and the future.
An elderly man walked in with a tired look on his face.
"headmaster!"
Cheers of surprise spread throughout the classroom.
Then, time seemed to stop.
All moving things seemed to have become a stagnant "frame", becoming dead and solidified.
"How was it? Did you enjoy playing the Utopia game?"
The blonde girl sneered.
She stretched out her palms, gathered her strength, and grasped the flow of time.
"The Law of Time? You accelerated this small world?"
"The only one who could achieve this level of skill was the Witch of Time, but she had long ago lost herself in the river of time due to her curiosity. How did you do it?"
The man was indifferent. "Do you think I eliminated most of the people just to clean up the old world? That's just one of the purposes."
"Using human lives as the price, I will extract the crystal that can accelerate time, so that I can quickly see the arrival of Utopia in my lifetime."
Claire's divine consciousness instantly traversed this small world, taking in the entire world at a glance.
"A day in the cave is a thousand years in the world. It turns out it's an old friend visiting."
"How is it? Are you satisfied with the utopia I created?"
Hemer seemed to have realized a great dream. The sense of satisfaction overdrafted his body and he looked so old.
His life is almost over.
"Nearly 500 years have passed in this small world."
"Let me tell you. I won't tell you a tragic story from my past; that kind of thing is unimportant. I'll just tell you the truth about the world."
This continent is a place of absolute power.
Since the beginning of historical records, power has existed on this ancient land for tens of thousands of years and has long since penetrated into the bones and spirits of all living beings.
As long as they continue to live on this land, no one can completely escape from this web of power.
There are always only a small number of people standing at the pinnacle of power, and the majority of the rest can only feel the pain of being dominated.
We are a short-lived species of primates, living in this dangerous world. What sustains our survival is our nature, that is, the spirit that makes us human.
Now we have lost the ability to feel love. If a person holds on to a kind of genuine love for emotion, reason or truth, and then delve into areas that no one cares about, then he will fall to the bottom of this world.
This is a land of power.
Power is the path to domination and freedom. When a person feels bound, oppressed, and constrained, he or she longs to break free from these constraints, to liberate himself or herself, and ultimately to attain freedom.
This desire for freedom is essentially just a desire for power, and this struggle to liberate oneself is just a rebellion against the relationship of being dominated.
Freedom and constraint are two contradictory sides of the same coin, and their essence is power.
When a wizard truly masters power, all the laws, morals, and rules that once restrained him will disappear under this power, and he will find that everything that once restrained him is gone.
His will becomes the truth, his words become commands, and he can dominate those he rules at will according to his own wishes. Then he can feel his own existence in this domination over others and taste the taste of freedom from this power.
The people in this world have been living in this hunger for power since they were born.
