Chapter 557: Speculations
Chapter 557: Speculations
"Brother, you go ahead and do your thing. I'm always available here." Ju Gong said sincerely.
"Then I'll take my leave now. Let's meet again another day." Lin Fan stood up and said.
"How about we have lunch together?" Ju Gong suggested.
"Next time, I won't bother you today." Lin Fan declined.
"I'm so sorry to have you make such a special trip for such a small matter." Ju Gong said as he stood up to see the guest off.
"No need to send it, it would be bad." Lin Fan said with a smile.
"What's wrong with that? I must send you out." Ju Gong insisted, and Lin Fan no longer refused, and the two walked out together.
When the others waiting there saw Ju Gong personally escorting the young man out, they were all shocked.
Seeing Ju Gong personally greet them just now had already aroused their curiosity, and now they witnessed him personally seeing them off, which made everyone even more speculative about the identity of this young visitor.
Lu Zhen stood aside, his eyes involuntarily falling on Lin Fan who was chatting and laughing with the mayor of Jing.
His hands clenched unconsciously, his knuckles making a slight sound, his nails digging deep into his palms, but he was completely unaware.
Ju Gong personally escorted Lin Fan to the car. After the Maserati slowly drove out of sight, he turned around and gave this side a meaningful smile.
Seeing this, the people around responded with flattering smiles. Ju Gong nodded slightly and left the scene without staying for long.
Soon, the chief secretary came over and began to notify the selected people to enter one by one.
"Mr. Lu, do you know the young man just now?" someone asked curiously.
"I don't know him," Lu Zhen replied briefly, his expression cold. The man tactfully shut up.
When it was Lu Zhen's turn, the chief secretary smiled and said, "Master Lu, it's your turn."
"Okay," Lu Zhen agreed, but he felt a little uneasy. He noticed that Lin Fan and Ju Gong seemed to have a special relationship, and he was worried that this would affect his plans.
On the way to the venue, Lu Zhen couldn't help but ask Secretary Liu, "Does that Lin Fan have a good relationship with the mayor of Jing?"
"Not particularly familiar."
The chief secretary replied, "It's simply because one of Lin Fan's elders once helped the mayor, so they have some connections."
Hearing this, Lu Zhen breathed a sigh of relief, and his originally tense mood gradually relaxed.
"I see," he said softly.
"Yeah, it's just the ways of the world."
The chief secretary echoed, "Besides, the more favors you use, the less you have left."
"Indeed, human relationships always have their limits." Lu Zhen agreed.
"However, the mayor always has special appreciation for capable young people, like Mr. Lu." The chief secretary added, with a barely perceptible smile in his eyes.
"Really? The mayor said so?" Lu Zhen was delighted.
"Of course, why would I lie to you?" replied the chief secretary.
"Haha, Brother Liu, I will definitely treat you to a drink to thank you someday." Lu Zhen suggested enthusiastically.
"Okay, okay, go in first." The chief secretary smiled faintly, but he was sneering in his heart. He had already sensed that Lu Zhen's good days might not be long.
Entering the conference room, Ju Gong saw Lu Zhen and immediately stood up, his face filled with a warm smile, and extended his hand to greet him. Lu Zhen felt this enthusiasm and felt surprised and honored.
The secretary next to him watched this scene and sighed inwardly: The mayor's acting skills are really superb. Even if he may have other plans in his heart, he still maintains such a perfect appearance.
Lu Zhen shook Ju Gong's hand tightly and humbly greeted him, "Hello, Mayor Jing."
Ju Gong laughed and responded: "Come, come, sit down and talk first."
He then instructed his secretary: "Xiao Liu, pour Xiao Lu a cup of tea."
The chief secretary nodded in response, but thought to himself: It seems that there is still a gap between Lu Zhen and Lin Fan.
"You go out first, I'll talk to Xiao Lu."
After the chief secretary left, Ju Gong turned to Lu Zhen and said, "I've heard of your name a long time ago, but it's a little late to meet you today."
Lu Zhen was secretly delighted, he didn't expect that his reputation had reached the ears of the mayor.
He had originally harbored some concerns about this meeting, especially after seeing Mayor Jing's cordial attitude towards Lin Fan. But at this moment, his doubts had vanished.
"Mr. Jing, it's my honor to be remembered by you." Lu Zhen replied, feeling a surge of pride in his heart.
"Don't be shy. I love communicating with young people. You all radiate endless energy. Just like the Lin Fan I mentioned earlier, we had a very pleasant chat."
Ju Gong said, seeming a little confused about the name just mentioned.
Hearing this, Lu Zhen became even more convinced of the chief secretary's words—Jin Shih-chung's enthusiasm for young people was genuine. He then began to describe his desire to contribute to his hometown after returning from abroad.
Ju Gong smiled and nodded repeatedly, expressing his admiration for Lu Zhen's patriotism and abilities. He encouraged him to tell him his plans and promised to support him.
At the end of the meeting, Lu Zhen left the office with a satisfied smile.
In the past half hour, he not only received the mayor's recognition, but also obtained a valuable promise of support. Although he did not enjoy the treatment of being personally escorted to the door by the mayor, he felt honored enough to be escorted by the chief secretary.
After seeing Lu Zhen off, the chief secretary returned to the office and reported to Ju Gong: "Mr. Lu is fully convinced that he has won your favor."
"As for your relationship with Mr. Zhou, I have also conveyed it to him as you said." The chief secretary added.
Ju Gong took a sip of tea and his expression became serious: "Very good, I will leave this matter to you to follow up."
Ju Gong stared at the chief secretary, his tone calm and dignified: "Every move he makes must be reported to me in a timely manner."
"Understood, Mayor." The chief secretary responded respectfully.
"If this succeeds, you will have made an indelible contribution."
Ju Gong chuckled, picked up the teacup and drank it all: "Let the next person come in."
"Yes." The chief secretary was delighted and left quickly.
After Lu Zhen walked out of the city hall gate, he immediately called his father: "I met with Mayor Jing, and he had a very good impression of me."
"Very good, I'll tell you the details when you come back." Lu Tianlong responded.
Soon, Lu Zhen returned home and told his father about the meeting. Lu Tianlong pondered for a moment, "Lin Fan has been gaining momentum in Ancheng lately. Even Ju Gong personally attended his apprenticeship banquet."
"Dad, Secretary Liu mentioned that this is because Ju Gong owes a favor to Elder Lin Fan." Lu Zhen explained.
"Favors are something you use up every time, so don't worry too much."
Lu Tianlong said, "But the fact that Lin Fan has been so successful in Ancheng is obviously not just due to favors. When you suffered at the hands of Lin Fan, he didn't rely on any favors, but on his own strength."
Lu Zhen frowned and thought: "You mean, he is very powerful?"
