Chapter 456 The Young Marquis Wakes Up
Chapter 456 The Young Marquis Wakes Up
The crisp sound of the slap shocked everyone present, except for the city's garrison commander, who remained calm as if it were only natural for the city lord's daughter to be slapped.
"You dare to hit me!?"
A sharp scream pierced the air. She raised her hand to slap him, but a flash of white light appeared, and a burning, tearing sensation instantly shot through her wrist.
The excruciating pain shot through her shoulder blade like lightning. She cried out in pain and staggered, clutching her bleeding forearm.
"If there's a next time, it'll be your neck."
"You, you guys..."
She glared angrily at the composed Qin Miaoxi and Ziyan, who held a sharp sword. The two women looked at her as if she were some disgusting filth, with contempt and disdain.
Qin Miaoxi looked up and ordered the general, "Throw her out."
"Yes."
"You've lost your mind! How could you obey this vile servant's orders!" She pointed an enraged finger at the woman. "Didn't you see she was plotting to harm the young marquis? If anything were to happen to him, you would be an accomplice, deserving of a thousand cuts!"
"Young Marquis? Where is the Young Marquis?"
The city's commander looked around in confusion, but there was no one there.
The city lord's daughter cursed angrily, "Fool, the young marquis is in the tent."
"That man is actually the young marquis?" The city's garrison commander was stunned. He had brought this man out of the city only because he had been infected with the plague for too long and was therefore more valuable for research. He never expected that the man was actually the young marquis.
His suspicious gaze fell upon Qin Miaoxi, and he immediately calmed down, turning to the city lord's daughter and saying sternly, "Miss, please!"
"You're driving me away?"
The general gave the soldiers a wink, and soon she and her maid were ushered out of the camp.
"You bitch, just you wait, I won't let you get away with this."
The sinister threats faded into the distance, and finally, silence returned to Qin Miaoxi. She took a deep, weary breath. "Strengthen the guards around the young marquis's tent. No unauthorized personnel are allowed to approach."
"Yes."
"Ziyan, go and inform the imperial physician to come over. I have something to arrange."
"Yes."
After having the imperial physician arrange for someone to watch over Lu Qingchen, she set up a tent nearby. The days of travel had already exhausted her physical strength, and the farce that the city lord's daughter had put her last bit of energy to spare.
At this moment, she was too exhausted to continue. Like a puppet whose strings had been removed, she collapsed into a deep sleep, utterly weary.
After an unknown amount of time, a cry of surprise came from the camp.
"Lu Qingchen!"
Qin Miaoxi jolted awake from her dream, her forehead soaked with cold sweat that had drenched her pillowcase. The coolness pressed against her skin, and her heart was still pounding wildly.
In her dream, Lu Qingchen turned into a decaying corpse, and no amount of blood or rare treasures could save his life.
"Miss!"
"How is the young marquis?"
"The young marquis is doing well. The imperial physician said that the signs of decay in the young marquis's body have eased and are gradually receding."
Qin Miaoxi breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. I'll go see him."
“Miss’s health is important. You haven’t been eating properly these past two days. If this continues, the young marquis will not get better, but you will fall ill instead.”
Ziyan forcefully pressed her down and brought over the food box that had been prepared beforehand. "Miss, eat something light so you can have the strength to better treat the young master."
Before Qin Miaoxi could speak, a thunderous rumbling sound came from her stomach, exceptionally clear in the quiet tent.
She coughed twice. "Okay, let's eat first."
A barely suppressed smile flashed in Ziyan's eyes. "Yes, Miss."
Halfway through the meal, I vaguely heard a loud voice coming from the next tent.
Without saying a word, Qin Miaoxi threw down her bowl and chopsticks and headed straight for the next tent.
She bumped into the imperial physician as soon as she entered, quickly regained her balance, and anxiously asked, "What happened? Has something happened to the young marquis?"
"No, the young master has woken up."
Qin Miaoxi's fingertips trembled slightly as she rushed to the bedside, only to be caught off guard by a pair of deep eyes.
A thousand words welled up inside, but only three words escaped his throat: "You're awake?"
"You?" Lu Qingchen's voice was hoarse. She glanced at him once before turning her head away, her hoarse voice unusually cold. "What are you doing here? You can leave!"
His words were like a bucket of cold water poured over her head, instantly chilling Qin Miaoxi's burning heart. Her eyes, fixed on him, welled up with tears, threatening to spill over.
However, all of this was fleeting. In a short while, she regained her composure and replied in an equally cold voice, "Since the young marquis is unwilling to see me, I will have the imperial physician treat you."
"I am entrusting the young marquis to you, Physician Hang."
Physician Hang hesitated as he looked at the two of them. He could tell they were having a disagreement, and he couldn't stand being caught in the middle. So he couldn't help but speak up and advise, "Madam, you are the one who knows the young marquis's condition best. You are the most suitable person to be here."
"No, I'll go into the city later to treat those people. I feel at ease leaving you here."
The footsteps that left were hurried and heavy, filled with anger and panic.
"Stop! Don't go!" Lu Qingchen, no longer caring about being angry, shouted so hard that his voice cracked and his hoarse voice made others laugh.
Physician Hang smiled without saying a word and withdrew, leaving the young couple to their own devices.
"Young Marquis, please focus on recovering. My affairs are none of your business."
Lu Qingchen coughed violently in anger, inwardly cursing: [Waaah, how could she be so heartless? Can't we be friends after a divorce? The city is a plague-affected zone; how can she go there? I must find a way to stop her.]
"I am the Marquis, and I order you to stay here and take care of me."
"I'm sorry, the young marquis has already declined. Physician Hang is very good."
Lu Qingchen's back molars were grinding together, making a creaking sound. [You foul mouth! Serves you right for talking nonsense! Now she's really angry. How do I appease her?]
Hearing the familiar voice, Qin Miaoxi felt a pang of sadness for some reason, and that strange emotion made her heart pound uncontrollably.
"Anyway, you have to stay with me, or I won't take my medicine." Lu Qingchen said her tantrum with righteous indignation, and really had the arrogant look of someone who wouldn't cooperate with treatment.
Qin Miaoxi glared angrily, rushed up to him, grabbed his chin, and mercilessly forced the medicine down his throat.
"Cough cough cough! You murdered your husband."
"Threatening people with your own life? You don't even cherish yourself, so who can you threaten?" She angrily slammed down the medicine bowl and strode away without looking back.
Her wrist was suddenly grabbed, and Lu Qingchen murmured softly with joy, "You're worried about me?"
Qin Miaoxi: "..."
She was furious with this guy. Did he even know he had contracted the plague? How could he be so indifferent?
"Yes, I'm worried about when you'll die."
Qin Miaoxi pried his hands off and quickly walked out, afraid that if she stayed a second longer she would strangle him, but his inner thoughts still kept reaching her ears.
[She pulled me away instead of shaking me off. Does that mean she still likes me? What should I do? Hmm, this time I must stand firm and not compromise, unless she shows that she loves me very, very much.]
Standing outside the door, Qin Miaoxi heard his heartfelt words and was almost bursting with anger. Although some misunderstandings remained unresolved, she had to ask: "Young Marquis, have you forgotten why you were so determined to get a divorce back then?"
How long has it been since they forgot their original intentions? Let them perish!
Outside the door, Ziyan winked at her and teased her expressionlessly, "Miss, were you flirting with the young marquis just now?"
Qin Miaoxi's face flushed. "What nonsense are you talking about? I have nothing to do with him."
"Oh! But I suppose the young marquis doesn't want to sever ties with you!"
Qin Miaoxi remained silent, her mind a jumble of thoughts. Who could know what the future held?
