Chapter 750 Example
Chapter 750 Example
After giving Nana and Damai the healing card, Lin Bufan helped Ma Qiushan drag and pull Hu Youyu, who was still fighting against the air "King Kong," into the back seat of the car.
"Alright, Lao Ma, take Lao Hu to the town hospital for a checkup." Lin Bufan clapped his hands, looking relaxed as if he had finished his work: "Leave the rest to me, I can handle them."
Just as Ma Qiushan was about to return to the courtyard to bring the others out, he turned his head in confusion: "You're treating him? Mr. Lin, are you really a doctor?"
"A genuine miracle doctor." Lin Bufan raised his chin slightly, his handsome face under the streetlights appearing confident: "He specializes in treating all kinds of difficult and complicated diseases, including all kinds of poisons."
Ma Qiushan quickly accepted that Lin Bufan was a miracle doctor, since Lin Bufan had mentioned it before. But what puzzled him was why he preferred women to men. Did he specialize in gynecology?
"Since you're a miracle doctor, why don't you save them all at once? That would save me the trouble of making this trip to the hospital."
Should we treat them together?
That's easy for you to say!
My buddy only has a dozen or so recovery cards left, why waste them on such a trivial problem?
Besides, as a man, shouldn't Lao Hu set an example in some things? Otherwise, when the four girls wake up tomorrow, without Lao Hu as a comparison, how will they understand how great my kindness is?
"Well..." Lin Bufan rubbed his fingers together, sighed, and gave a look of "even a skilled cook can't cook without rice": "Old Ma, you don't understand. Even a divine doctor needs medicine to cure an illness, right? This unique antidote I have is difficult to make, and the ingredients are scarce. I only prepared enough for four people. Look, red beans, arisaema, barley, and Nana, exactly four. As for Old Hu... I'll just have to trouble you to take him to the hospital and solve it using conventional methods. Resources need to be allocated reasonably!"
Ma Qiushan listened with skepticism, feeling that something was off about what Lin Bufan was saying, but seeing how serious Lin Bufan was, and considering Hu Youyu's urgent situation, he couldn't afford to investigate further.
“Alright,” Ma Qiushan started the car, “then I’ll leave this to you, Mr. Lin.”
"Don't worry." Lin Bufan waved his hand, then as if remembering something, he opened the back door and stuffed Sang Biao, who had come to watch the commotion, inside as well: "You bastard, come along. Keep an eye on Lao Hu on the way, don't let him interfere with Lao Ma's driving."
Sang Biao tried to escape, but Lin Bufan glared at him and made him slump down on the back seat with a dejected look.
"Alright, enough with your cowardice." Lin Bufan waved at it through the car window with amusement. "Don't worry, there are no ghosts in this world. They just got poisoned from eating undercooked mushrooms. After you and Lao Ma safely get Lao Hu to the hospital, if you get bored, just come back on your own."
Inside the car, Sang Biao reluctantly nodded, accepting the arrangement with a forced smile.
Seeing this, Ma Qiushan didn't delay any longer. He started the car and drove towards the town hospital, carrying Hu Youyu, who was sometimes screaming in terror and sometimes hugging the back of the front seat and shouting "King Kong, don't eat me!" and Sang Biao, who looked utterly hopeless.
After seeing them off, Lin Bufan returned to the Windy Courtyard.
The courtyard was quiet, save for the lamplight under the eaves. He first checked on Nana and Damai. There was no sound from Nana's room on the first floor. Pushing open the door, he saw Nana sitting on the floor beside the bed, seemingly exhausted from crying, fast asleep. Tears still clung to her face, but her brow was relaxed, and her breathing was even. Damai's room on the second floor was equally quiet. Damai was also asleep at his desk, his earlier agitation completely gone, fast asleep.
"Looks like the recovery card worked," Lin Bufan muttered to himself. For the sake of convenience in taking care of her afterward, he decided to settle the two of them together. So, he gently lifted Nana from the first-floor room in his arms.
Nana was slender and easy to lift. Lin Bufan walked steadily, afraid of waking her. Nana, seemingly feeling secure in her sleep, unconsciously snuggled closer to him and mumbled something indistinctly.
Lin Bufan carried Nana upstairs to Damai's room and put her on the bed. Then he moved Damai, who was sleeping on the table, to the bed as well.
After covering the two women with blankets, Lin Bufan left the room and went to room number 6 to check on Xu Hongdou and the other woman.
After confirming that Xu Hongdou and the other girl were alright, Lin Bufan moved a recliner to the middle of the second-floor corridor, so he could hear what was happening in Da Mai's room and also keep an eye on Xu Hongdou and the other girl's situation. He lay down comfortably and took out his phone to start playing a match-3 game.
Not long after, Ma Qiushan called.
"President Lin, we've arrived at the hospital." Ma Qiushan's voice came through the receiver, the background noise somewhat intrusive: "The doctor examined him and diagnosed mushroom poisoning. He's already given Lao Hu medication, and his condition is stable now. The doctor said he should stay for observation; it's not a serious problem. I'll stay here with him tonight and won't be going back. By the way, that dog... Sang Biao ran away on his own; he didn't follow me."
"Okay, got it. Thanks for your hard work, Lao Ma." Lin Bufan replied and hung up the phone.
Sure enough, a short while later, a faint noise came from downstairs. Sang Biao sneaked back, darted up the stairs to the second floor, and when it saw Lin Bufan, it seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and ran to the recliner to lie down.
"What a coward." Lin Bufan glanced at it, then continued playing on his phone. "You still know how to come back?"
Sang Biao snorted and pulled out his phone to type: "The hospital disinfectant smell is too strong, and the doctor looked at me strangely. I'm afraid he'll grab me and dissect me for research."
"You're such a drama queen." Lin Bufan tossed his phone aside and rubbed his neck. "Come on, bored? Want to play a couple of rounds?"
The man and the dog huddled together, playing the thrilling mobile game "Honor of Kings" on their phones. Occasionally, Lin Bufan would murmur a low "tsk" and Sang Biao would make a soft sound as his paws slapped the ground.
Time passed quietly, and the eastern sky began to lighten with the first hint of dawn. Just as Lin Bufan finished a game and was about to stretch, a muffled groan came from the next room, room number 3—the room where Da Mai and Nana were—like the unconscious murmur of someone just waking up.
Lin Bufan's eyes changed instantly, his movements so fast they were almost blurry. He practically floated to the door of room number 3, gently turned the doorknob, slipped inside, and closed the door behind him. The whole process was silent; even Sang Biao, who was lying on the ground, only felt a gust of wind pass by.
Inside the room, Da Mai was still fast asleep, while Nana groggily opened her eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling, seemingly not fully awake yet.
Lin Bufan quickly scanned the area, his gaze settling on the desk. He quietly pulled out a chair, immediately lay down, adjusted his breathing, closed his eyes, and pretended to be fast asleep. The movements were fluid and seamless, as if he had been lying there all along.
A few seconds later, Nana was fully awake. She blinked in confusion, turned her head, and first saw Da Mai still sleeping beside her. Then, her gaze fell on the figure slumped over the desk.
"Hmm?" Nana rubbed her temples, propped herself up to sit, and the blanket slipped off her. She looked around, then at Lin Bufan's back, her face full of confusion.
Lin Bufan lay on the desk, his shoulders twitching slightly as if he had just been startled awake. He slowly raised his head, rubbed his eyes, and turned his hazy gaze toward the bed.
"Nana? You're awake?" Lin Bufan's face immediately showed just the right amount of surprise and concern, his voice still a little hoarse from just waking up: "How are you feeling? Is there anything wrong with your body?"
Nana frowned slightly, her eyes full of confusion: "I... how did I end up in the barley room? And you..." She looked at Lin Bufan: "What are you doing here too?"
Lin Bufan stood up, pretending his arm was a little numb, and moved it to prove he had been watching over him all night: "Last night you all... suffered from food poisoning, probably from eating undercooked mushrooms. You, Da Mai, Hong Dou, Nan Xing, and Lao Hu were all affected. The symptoms were quite severe..."
As Nana listened, she tried hard to recall, fragments of chaotic, blurry, and intensely emotional images flashing through her mind from the previous night—suppressed crying, aggrieved explanations, endless darkness… She subconsciously raised her hand to touch her cheek, as if she could still feel the dried tear tracks. Looking at Lin Bufan again, she saw that his eyes were slightly bloodshot and his hair was somewhat disheveled, clearly indicating that he had indeed been keeping watch for quite some time.
A warm feeling mixed with complex emotions welled up in her heart instantly. Nana pursed her lips and said in a softer voice, "Thank you...you...were here taking care of me and Da Mai all night?"
"Hey, there's no need to thank me." Lin Bufan waved his hand, his tone relaxed: "Friends should look after each other, right? I can't just stand by and watch you suffer."
Just then, the half-open door was pushed open a crack, and a furry dog head peeked in—it was Sang Biao. Its dog eyes accurately caught the "calm and collected, seemingly hiding its merits and fame" expression on Lin Bufan's face. The corners of its mouth turned down in an extremely human-like manner, and it rolled its eyes clearly before shrinking its head back, as if looking at him for even a moment would pollute its pure soul.
Having made his presence felt enough, Lin Bufan prepared to leave, otherwise he would miss the chance to make his presence felt by Xu Hongdou: "You must be hungry after staying up so late yesterday, right? What do you want to eat? I'll go make you something."
Nana quickly waved her hand: "No need, no need, it's too much trouble for you. I'm fine now, I can just make something myself."
"Don't be so polite. Aren't we friends? It's only right for friends to help each other. Or is it that you, Nana, don't consider me a friend at all!" As he spoke, Lin Bufan looked dejected, as if he had suffered a great injustice!
Upon seeing this, Nana quickly explained, "No! Of course I consider you a friend! It's just... I didn't want to trouble you too much."
Lin Bufan didn't speak, he just looked at her quietly.
Nana felt a little uncomfortable under Lin Bufan's gaze, so she could only whisper, "Then... then I'll trouble you. I'd like to have some light porridge, is that alright?"
"Alright! Almost done!" Lin Bufan's face instantly brightened, revealing a radiant smile. He turned and left the room.
Soon, the sounds of rinsing rice and washing vegetables filled the kitchen. Lin Bufan quickly set up a pot and boiled water, preparing to cook a pot of vegetable porridge. But not long after the porridge was put into the pot, Nana came over.
"Why don't you sleep a little longer?"
"I can't sleep," Nana said, leaning against the door with a slightly embarrassed look on her face. "And... I just feel bad leaving you to do all this alone."
"Don't be so polite with me." Lin Bufan stirred the porridge in the pot with a spoon. "How are you feeling? Still dizzy?"
Nana shook her head, a look of disbelief on her face: "I'm completely fine, really. I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and energized, without any discomfort at all. If it weren't for... if it weren't for the fact that I still have a vague memory of what happened last night, I would have suspected that you were making up a story to fool me." She paused, looked at Lin Bufan, and said seriously, "Now I'm starting to believe that you're a miracle doctor."
"You only believe me now?" Lin Bufan proudly raised his chin. "This is an ancestral skill of mine, specializing in curing all kinds of stubbornness... oh no, all kinds of difficult and complicated diseases."
Nana was amused, and then thanked him earnestly again: "Lin Bufan, thank you so much."
“Just saying thank you isn’t enough,” Lin Bufan immediately seized the opportunity and said with a grin, “We need to take some real action.”
Nana gave a surprised yet slightly sly look and deliberately said, "Huh? Didn't someone just say that friends should help each other and there's no need to thank them? Why are you suddenly taking action?"
“Nana, you don’t understand.” Lin Bufan solemnly raised his finger: “We are friends, that’s right; helping each other is also what we should do. But gratitude is an excellent traditional virtue that our Chinese nation has passed down for more than 5,000 years. It is an important part of expressing our feelings and enhancing our relationship. We can’t lose it! It’s called repaying kindness.”
"Okay, okay, you're right. Well... when you have time to come to our restaurant, I'll treat you to a meal?"
Lin Bufan curled his lip, looking disgusted: "No sincerity!"
"Then what do you want?"
"Hmm... I haven't decided yet, I'll owe you for now." With that, Lin Bufan handed the spoon to Nana: "Okay, you keep an eye on the pot for me, don't let it burn. I'll go next door to see if Hongdou and Nanxing have woken up yet."
"it is good."
Lin Bufan wiped his hands and hurried to room number 6. He listened intently, but there was no sound inside. He gently pushed open the door, and Xu Hongdou and Chen Nanxing were still lying side by side on the bed, asleep, their breathing even.
After more than ten minutes, seeing that the two women still showed no signs of waking up, Lin Bufan decided to take the initiative. He walked to the bedside, leaned down to look at Xu Hongdou's peaceful sleeping face, and gently poked her cheek.
Xu Hongdou frowned slightly, mumbled something indistinctly, and didn't wake up.
Lin Bufan poked it again, this time with a bit more force.
"Hmm..." Xu Hongdou finally opened her eyes groggily, her gaze still somewhat unfocused. Just a second before she was fully awake, Lin Bufan had already darted to the table, quickly lay down, and adjusted his breathing and posture.
Xu Hongdou rubbed her eyes and slowly sat up. She looked around and found herself lying on the same bed as Chen Nanxing, while Lin Bufan was asleep next to the desk.
