Chapter 1509: No Active Integration
Chapter 1509: No Active Integration
Mu Ning smiled and nodded, "Yes, I will remember."
The afternoon's conversation was quite pleasant. After Mrs. Yu left, Mu Ning and Bai Xin'ai quickly helped their mother-in-law to rest.
After leaving the room, Mu Ning said in a low voice, "It seems we need to find a way to tell people not to visit during the noon hour, as Mother-in-law will feel uncomfortable if she doesn't get a midday rest."
As Mu Ning spoke, Bai Xin'ai did not respond. Mu Ning turned her head and asked directly, "What do you think is the best course of action?"
Now that she's already Zhuang's wife, they should get along well. The Zhuang family hasn't said anything about their relationship, but they're probably very concerned about it and don't want anyone to put too much effort into it.
Mu Ning is a typical person who becomes complacent after being oppressed, and she doesn't think about refusing anything life gives her; she is somewhat submissive.
So even though such a formidable rival lived under the same roof as her, she remained calm, knowing that she would not provoke him unless provoked, and simply coexisted peacefully.
When Bai Xin'ai heard Mu Ning ask this, she shook her head. "The Zhuang family will handle this themselves. Third Master is more worried about Third Madam than anyone else. Why should you worry about something like this?"
“Third Master and Third Madam are now our parents-in-law. Since they are our parents-in-law, why can’t we care about them more? If your biological mother were like this, you would definitely care, right?” Mu Ning asked rhetorically.
"I'm sure you know the difference between a mother-in-law and a mother, right?" Bai Xin'ai said with a smile. "Don't be silly, Mu Ning. The Zhuang family won't appreciate it. The more you do, the more they'll think it's their duty. In time, they'll think that everything you do is a given. Don't let your good intentions go unappreciated. That would be terrible."
“Now that you’ve entered the family, why do you still act like an outsider?” Mu Ning ignored Bai Xin’ai’s “wise advice” and asked in confusion, “If you always act like an outsider, how can you expect the family to accept you? If you’re unwilling to actively integrate, then even if you live in the family for the rest of your life, you’ll only be a guest, not a family member.”
"That's your opinion. I'm different, so don't try to control me with your outdated ideas," Bai Xin'ai said coldly.
Mu Ning stared for a long time before finally speaking, "Maybe we really are different. I won't talk to you about these things anymore."
Mu Ning went downstairs, taking each step firmly. She sat in the hall, and the auntie, seeing her sitting on the sofa reading a book, quickly brought her a blanket.
"The heating isn't always warm enough, and it's easy to get cold sitting down. Covering yourself with a blanket makes a big difference. Since you're pregnant, you should be extra careful and make sure you don't catch a cold," the aunt said softly, her face full of smiles.
Mu Ning smiled and said thank you, then added, "Auntie, because you're here in my house, I feel like my mother is always by my side."
"Oh my, young mistress, it's such a blessing that you value me so much. If I could give birth to a daughter like you, I would be laughing in my sleep." The aunt quickly exclaimed, and then added, "Young mistress, if you miss your mother, why don't you take her with you on this vacation to Hainan? It's more convenient for a pregnant woman to have her mother by her side."
Mu Ning's eyes lit up immediately. "But," she hesitated before asking, "wouldn't that be a bit much? The flights and accommodations there are already confirmed. Wouldn't it be troublesome to add more people? Besides, my mother still has to work. She probably wouldn't be willing to take a month off."
"How to arrange things is just a matter of Third Master's word. He can arrange it in no time. But as for Madam... that's where you'll have to go, Young Madam. You didn't say it was a vacation, just that you wanted to spend some time with her. You don't need to explain the reason clearly, but Madam is worried about you and will definitely apply for leave to come and be with you. Besides, if you go here, you'll have to spend the New Year there. Young Madam, don't you want to spend the New Year's Eve dinner with Madam? If Madam doesn't go, you won't be able to see your mother this New Year." The aunt's mouth really spoke logically and persuasively, leaving Mu Ning speechless for a moment.
"Let me think about it first," Mu Ning said earnestly.
"Think it over carefully. You're leaving tomorrow, so there's plenty of time." The aunt said with a smile. After speaking, she looked back to see if anyone else was there. Once she was sure no one was around, she leaned close to Mu Ning's ear and whispered, "Although having the Third Madam around means there shouldn't be any problems, anything can happen. After all, you can't be with the Third Madam all the time, right? It's better to have your own mother around, so that you can always have your most trusted family member by your side."
Actually, the aunt was mainly considering this point. Besides her mother, who else would treat her so well? There is no one more suitable than her own mother.
"Lie down and think it over. Don't sit curled up like that. How can you be comfortable like that?" The aunt gently pushed Mu Ning down onto the sofa. "Third Madam is also resting. There's no one else at home, so we can relax."
The aunt spoke her last sentence very softly. She genuinely felt that Mu Ning must be under a lot of pressure. When she's alive, she can't relax and unwind like she would in a normal family. Coming back to the farmhouse is like walking into a cage, which probably isn't good for a pregnant woman.
Mu Ning smiled at her aunt and said, "Go ahead and do your work. I'll call you if I need anything."
"Then I'll be going. Don't tell anyone about today, young mistress." The aunt left only after Mu Ning nodded in agreement.
Before Mu Ning could even confirm, a car pulled up outside. Mu Ning heard the sound very clearly, so she quickly pushed aside the thick blanket and the book in her hand and went out.
This is her habit; as soon as she hears the sound of a car outside, she immediately rushes out to greet it. Just like today, since her husband hadn't told her in advance when he would be coming home early, she could only run out as soon as she heard the sound of a car.
It was quite sunny at noon, but by this time, it had started snowing. So Mu Ning stood at the door looking out to see if it was her husband's car. If not, she would go back inside; if it was, she would go outside.
"It seems like I'm back." Mu Ning changed her shoes and ran outside.
The person who returned was indeed Zhuang Shiyuan. Mu Ning walked towards him and asked, "Why didn't you call me beforehand?"
"I didn't call you because I was afraid you'd run out again," Zhuang Shiyuan said helplessly, as he took off his coat and wrapped it around her, then put his arm around her and walked into the house.
She ran out even without calling first.
"I'm okay..."
"She's only wearing a jacket, and this is what she's wearing indoors. Hurry up and come inside." Zhuang Shiyuan said a few words and then stopped talking. They had to go inside first; they couldn't let her catch a cold.
