Chapter 261 Clues to the Foundation and the Pursuit of Danger
The exploration fleet, carrying a crucial mission, departed from Alliance headquarters and embarked on a quest to find the "Cosmic Foundation," guided by clues gathered in intelligence. Their first stop was a star system called Azeroth, considered a strong candidate for containing such a foundation. The Azeroth system, renowned for its complex gravitational field and dense asteroid belt, presented a significant challenge to the fleet's voyage.
The fleet cautiously entered the star system, navigating the asteroid belt with difficulty using advanced navigation systems and gravity-avoidance technology. Suddenly, an escort ship sounded an alarm: a massive meteorite, pulled by a gravitational field, was hurtling towards the fleet at an extremely high speed. The commander swiftly ordered all ships to take evasive action. The warships instantly activated their thrusters and scattered in different directions. The massive meteorite grazed the edge of a destroyer, its powerful gravitational pull causing the destroyer to shake violently, but fortunately, it ultimately escaped unharmed.
After some twists and turns, the fleet finally arrived at the core region of the Azeroth system. There, a planet shrouded in thick clouds lay hidden, and intelligence analysis suggested that the "Cosmic Foundation" might be concealed deep within it. The exploration fleet dispatched a well-equipped landing craft, carrying scientists and special forces, towards the planet's surface.
The landing craft broke through thick clouds and landed in a vast desert. Gale-force winds howled, and sandstorms raged, making the harsh environment extremely difficult for the team members. However, with unwavering determination, they quickly began surveying the surrounding environment. Through ground-penetrating radar scanning, they discovered a huge cavity deep underground, whose signal characteristics resembled the energy fluctuations of the "cosmic foundation."
The team began digging a passage to the underground cavity. As they dug deeper, unexpected events occurred. A strange, corrosive liquid gushed from the ground, severely damaging the excavation equipment. Furthermore, they were attacked by alien creatures resembling giant sand worms. These sand worms were enormous, agile, and could spew deadly venom from their mouthparts. The team quickly switched to combat mode; special forces soldiers, armed with energy weapons, engaged in fierce combat with the sand worms, while scientists raced against time to repair the equipment.
After paying a price, the team finally repelled the sandworms and repaired some of the excavation equipment. After more than ten hours of continuous effort, they successfully opened a passage to the underground cavity. The moment the team entered the cavity, a powerful energy surge washed over them. In the center of the cavity, a huge crystal emitting a ghostly blue light floated silently—the very "Cosmic Foundation Stone" that everyone had been searching for.
Just as the team was preparing to bring the "Cosmic Foundation" back to the fleet, danger struck again. A mysterious fleet suddenly appeared in the Azeroth system and rapidly approached their location. Judging from the warships' shapes and energy fluctuations, they were highly likely to be pawns of the "Shadow Council." The fleet commander immediately ordered that some warships remain in orbit to defend against the mysterious fleet, while others would escort the landing craft back.
In space, the two warships clashed instantly. The mysterious fleet's weapons were extremely powerful, and the Alliance fleet's shields flashed incessantly under the attack. However, thanks to excellent tactical coordination and advanced defensive systems, the Alliance fleet temporarily stabilized its position. On the planet's surface, landing craft, fully loaded with "cosmic cornerstones," rapidly ascended and converged on the fleet.
However, the mysterious fleet wouldn't let them get away so easily. They dispatched several high-speed warships to bypass the fleet's defenses and intercept the landing craft. At the critical moment, an Alliance cruiser stepped forward, blocking the landing craft's path. The cruiser activated its shields to full power, enduring the fierce attacks from the enemy warships. In the intense firefight, the cruiser sustained damage in several places, but it held its ground, buying precious time for the landing craft.
Ultimately, the landing craft successfully returned to the fleet, and the "Cosmic Cornerstone" was safely transferred to the flagship. However, the Alliance fleet also suffered considerable losses, with several warships severely damaged and some crew members heroically sacrificed. Knowing that it was not advisable to linger in battle at this moment, the commander ordered the fleet to activate its warp drives and evacuate the Azeroth system.
During the jump, the fleet conducted preliminary research on the "Cosmic Foundation." Scientists discovered that the foundation contained unimaginable energy, but fully controlling it required in-depth research and specific technological means. This encounter also made it clear that the "Shadow Council" was determined to obtain the "Cosmic Foundation," and the subsequent search would undoubtedly be fraught with more dangers and challenges.
Successfully acquiring the first "Cosmic Cornerstone" is only the first step. Bearing a heavy mission and unwavering faith, the Alliance fleet continues its journey through the vast universe. Where will the next "Cosmic Cornerstone" be found? How will they cope with the relentless pursuit of the "Shadow Council"? Everything remains unknown, waiting to be revealed in the adventures to come.
